The coup was as a result of operation wetie and Awolowo was imprisoned by akintola in conjunction with sarduna and Balewa.

If awolowo was not in prison there would have been no coup so it’s safe to say the coup was a Yoruba/awolowo coup.

Names of those that died due to the coup were majority of those that sent awolowo to prison and it’s safe to say awolowo brought the list of those to be killed

And we were all here thinking it was “igbo coup” not know it was awolowo(yoruba coup).
IBB also lied about abiola winning the June 12 election!

The relationship between Akintola, Awolowo, and "Operation Wetie" is central to understanding the political turmoil that gripped Western Nigeria in the 1960s. Here's how they connect:

* Political Rivalry:
* Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Ladoke Akintola were prominent figures in the Action Group (AG) political party.
* Initially, they were allies, but their political relationship deteriorated significantly.
* A power struggle emerged, fueled by differing political ideologies and personal ambitions.

* The Split and Crisis:
* The rift between Awolowo and Akintola led to a division within the Action Group.
* Akintola eventually formed the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP), aligning himself with the Northern People's Congress (NPC).
* This political fracturing created intense instability in the Western Region.

* "Operation Wetie" and the Consequence:
* The political crisis escalated into widespread violence, known as "Operation Wetie."
* This involved acts of arson, thuggery, and general lawlessness, much of it directed at political opponents.
* The violence was highly attributed to the political battles between the factions of Awolowo, and Akintola.
* The instability that resulted from "Operation Wetie" was a major contributing factor to the January 1966 military coup in Nigeria.

In essence, the bitter rivalry between Awolowo and Akintola created the volatile political environment that allowed "Operation Wetie" to occur, with devastating consequences for the region and the nation.

"Operation Wetie" refers to a period of intense political violence that occurred in Western Nigeria during the First Republic of Nigeria in the 1960s. Here's a breakdown of what that entails:

* Political Context:
* It arose from a fierce political crisis between rival political factions.
* The Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP) and other political parties were involved in a power struggle.

* Violence:
* "Wetie" translates roughly to "wet it," and it refers to the practice of setting political opponents and their property ablaze with petrol.
* This period was marked by widespread arson, violence, and even "necklacing" (a particularly brutal form of killing).
* It was a time of political gangs, that were used to disrupt elections and terrorize oppositions.

* Significance:
* Operation Wetie is a stark example of the political instability that plagued Nigeria in its early years of independence.
* It's often cited as a reminder of the dangers of political violence.

In essence, "Operation Wetie" symbolizes a dark period of political turmoil and violence in Nigerian history.

Hmmm, seems not much has changed within the Yorubas since then.

IBB also lied about abiola winning the June 12 election!

Yoruba don’t need IBB to tell us about Abiola because Buhari the already mentioned it that Abiola won the election and even conferred him with the GCFR title. He even apologized to the Yoruba on that.

It’s just like IBB saying December is a month of the year, everybody already knows that.

It is an Ibo coup. 95% of the officers and Ibos and 99% of the victims are non Ibos.

The few Yoruba among them are the “Yoruba Buts”, they don’t have direction, just innocently their friends not knowing their intent. Same thing happening with LP, an Ibo agenda party.

They killed their own leaders, spared theirs, then their most senior commander Ironsi took power and fail to prosecute them.

If it’s truly not an Ibo coup, he would have executed them judging the fact that they murdered high profile leaders including the Prime minister.

Exactly, Ojukwu submitted the list of the 30k Ibos that were massacred in the North during the Ojukwu orchestrated counter coup.

He specifically mention 5000 Uche alone because he knows most Ibo men bear Uche.

His intent is to use that to justify Biafra secession.

MKO Abiola was not hanged but he was killed.

No, Awo died naturally but according to Ibos, he took 3million of them with him with his supposed “Blockade Policy”.

Had the coup succeeded, a certain region would have rewritten history overnight—flooding the airwaves with boasts, pounding their chests, and claiming they were the masterminds of victory. The same people who now pretend to be victims would have drowned the nation in their triumphalism, erasing everyone else from the story.

#EndSARS was ignited by Yoruba celebrities, fueled by Lagosians, and kept alive by their own voices. But when it ended, the Lagos media machine went to work—twisting reality, flipping the script, and manufacturing a new enemy. Suddenly, the Igbos—who neither started nor controlled it—became the villains, accused of trying to 'burn down Lagos.'

But history has a way of avenging itself. And when the reckoning comes, no amount of lies will hold it back

Everyone knows it is an Igbo coup with the agenda to overwhelm the perceived "Hausa/Fulani' mumus and take over govt when it was apparent that they..Igbos.. had the highest number of officers,civil servants etc then.

Igbos will never do anything positive for the Yorubas because of the massive envy,jealousy they have for the greatness and achievements of the Yorubas.
Most of their ancestors wailed to their graves mouthing Yoruba,Yoruba as if dem take Yoruba swear for dem papa...
