Anyone who is good, does not beg for tech job. This year alone, I have made over 5k dollars on coding gigs. That is just between January to this February.
Starting another coding gig for 7k dollars in few weeks time.
What most people don't know is the IT market requires one to be really solid and good.
Building sophisticated applications no be beans. And no be wetin AI dey run.

Pls, can u enlighten me on my prospects of learning AI?

Or, what tech can I start with as a novice?
Thanks dealry

I am also in the same boat as well. I started my tech journey as an IT Engineer and later Systems about 7 years ago. I relocated to the UK under a COS but the job I got through this COS is a finance role. I have done numerous certifications in a bid to land a remote tech job and its been nothing rejection for the past 3 years in UK. I suddenly gave up and decided to be A gigolo.

Bro, I'm presently learning IT specialist, what advise can you give and man don dey late 30's. Wahala

I feel your frustration. That's the same reason I've been sceptical about taking tech courses. I'll only enrol for one if I'm sure of relocating. I got a degree in Mathematics/Computer Scinece but I can confirm the guys that bagged Science Degrees from my school that are practicing what they read and are balling are the Engineering and Architecture guys. Most of the IT guys despite all their certifications are struggling. I'm shelfing my IT Certification plans for a PG in Finance so I can make significant progress.
Same here.....also thinking of switching to finance and medical line. Currently studying to be a chemical pathologist

Omo..u re right ooh.

Thank God I didn't invest my all on learning tech then, I put 80% of my time on learning physical trade and now I am happy I did.

Tho still learning my tech on a low

Truth is they're few tech jobs out there, but the hype was much and alot of people like you blindly learnt tech skills, now applicants are more than the actual available tech jobs, goto remote work websites and see the thousands of people applying to one tech job, all over the world, it's crazy, now most tech jobs also exclude Africa, they reserve it for Europe and north America, the few available worldwide are crowded by hungry people especially Indians, they're practically everywhere like a pandemic, forget the dreams abeg, na only crypto and surveys be the sure thing now, atleast nobody go control wether I earn or not, it's all up to me, and before you rant, I was like you, I learnt UI and UX design, web design, and graphics design yet here I am, if no be survey and crypto my own for don finish.
Pls can I know more about the survey?

Number one mistake you made is reg. The best time to look for a job is when you are employed. The chances of getting a new one are higher as an employed person than unemployed.

- The tech industry has witnessed massive layoffs within the last two years and still witnesses retrenchment upon sackings. So, you are competing for limited positions with much more experienced folks who companies are willing to pay less for their wealth of experience than a tyro they have to train.

- As a newbie who wants to change industries and career paths, you don't start with remote roles. Rather, you begin with on-site roles which offer you access to seniors who will guide you through the journey. Also, nothing beats face-to-face interactions, especially during your nascent years.

- Thousands of job applications? How is your CV like? Are they specific to the position d abi na anywhere belly face? Which platforms do you utilise the most?

Lastly, data science abi data analyst roles are so cheap and the actual data science jobs require a PhD or MSc with intersnhips. So, it is funny people enrol in three month courses and expect to land plum data science or AI roles. Whereas these fields require folks with advanced degrees in quant heavy fields such as mathematics and physics. Are you sure entry level data analyst remote workers in Nigeria earn $30K per annum? shocked grin

I am a software developer and i can authoritatively tell you that Ai can never replace human expertise, it only aids our job but not total takeover. Secondly, coding is a gift, if you are not gifted in it but just want to go into it because of financial gains , you won't excel . find your area of pleasure in tech and acquire training in it, if you are not gifted in it, pls follow your area of talent, programming is not for everyone

Tech jobs are over rated in Nigeria. A country that can't boost of year round electricity supply can't

IT guys across the west dey ball big time.ask anyone close to you that lives abroad. I met a guy at phone repair arena sometime last year. The guy brought a top notch Samsung phone for minor troubleshooting.(Just unlocking and restore)
He signed in and gave the guys in the repair dept the phone after telling them what the problem was.just to use an OEM software to unlock the phone then do factory restore. The only solution the so called IT guys adopted was to flash the phone erasing all the vital files and information in the phone without telling the owner. Meanwhile,The guy told me that he mistakenly locked the phone and it could not boot.He was in dubai then so he went to a repair outlet. He signed in at the outlet. he guys simply plugged the phone to a device and in less than a minute the phone was unlocked and all factory settings restored without loosing a single file. All personal and phone files were intact. He took his phone, signed out and left.It was the same thing that happened while in naiJa unfortunately our NaiJa backyard IT guys flash craze comot for d phone head grin grin
No be small matter that day oo
Sorry, but I don't think OP meant this "type" of tech o. Abi phone repair don become software engineering as performed by Stripe or NVIDIA? shocked If you meant hardware engineering, sure, we have a long way to go.

Done. OP has a long way to go. The people reaping the benefits of the tech surge were those who learnt and honed their skills pre-CORONA and those who quickly skilled up during CORONA. I read Americans applying for 100 jobs, yet nothing comot. Sack left, right and centre.

Whats with the insults when I am giving you good advice. What you are doing is exactly what the op did. He heard of this new flashy thing, heard he will make money from it. He jumped into it without any research at all like you basing his belief of on other people's opinions like you are doing now.

The parallels is crazy hence why I am saying don't come back and do the same thing op is doing now crying of split milk

Does Nigeria really have a viable tech sector, or is it just people in tech-inscribed T-shirts with laptops hopping from one remote work hub to the next? I mean, our tech industry is basically a glorified game of "brilliant minds" with Wi-Fi.

When we're actually ready for a real tech industry, we'll be calling on the government to build a proper industrialised environment for real tech companies - think mobile phone manufacturers, satellite companies, robot factories - basically, places with actual addresses, not just free Wi-Fi and coffee.

How can we talk about a tech industry when we still import ordinary POS machines? What is you people's idea of tech? Free WiFi, website design, coding, and crypto? Walai, we are not ready.

As always, we always want to jump the process. How can we talk about modern day tech without proper industrialisation? After learning to code, what next? Look around you, apart from banks, who your coding help? Schools still struggling to pay minimum wage or market women??
You have summarised everything. Honestly, we have long way to go concerning this tech of a thing

Good luck to you on building a serious webapp from chatgpt prompt.
AI will only make work easier for software engineers, it won't replace them. Anyone who can be replaced by AI was never in tech.

The market has slowed down in Europe and the USA. You are also competing with Asians from India and China; hence, the market is saturated. I suggest that you add a product to your data analysis skills, e.g., Dynamic 365 or Snowflake. You can learn both skills on Coursera for free.

If you can get even an unpaid internship to put your skills to use, do it.
Except you're very experienced, getting a tech job now is very difficult. It wasn't so 3 years ago.
It will be easier for you if you know Java or C#/.NET. Almost every serious company that needs a software engineer use either one of those. Being a self-taught Data scientist without industry experience won't take you anywhere.

I didnt say the person should lie. One thing you need to know about Job hunting is that you need to tailor your cv to the role in question. No one says you lie. It is possible that the person has gotten some skills in data analytics but the CV is not tailored to reflect that.

Thanks for clarifying
