The minister questioned how an average Nigerian would be treated by the embassy if General Musa was disrespected in that way.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has condemned the Canadian Embassy’s denial of a visa to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.

General Musa disclosed on Thursday at the maiden annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies, that the Canadian embassy denied him and some of his team visas to attend an event to honour war veterans in Canada.

Tunji-Ojo, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, said the action by the Canadian embassy is condemnable and shows a lack of respect for Nigeria as a country.

The minister questioned how an average Nigerian would be treated by the Canadian embassy if the Chief of Defence Staff were disrespected in that way.

Without knowing the full facts, I think even for us it is a policy, the issue of reciprocity as I always say, has to be given due consideration. As much as we are not ready to dabble into the sovereignty of other nations, the issue of visas, issue of migration management is a sovereign issue.

“As much as we don’t want to dabble into that, it is not a disrespect to the chief of defence staff, to me, without knowing the facts, it is disrespectful to the country, and it is disrespectful to us as a people. If that can happen to the chief of defence staff, then I am worried for an average Nigerian,” Tunji-Ojo said.

The Minister said that he is struggling to find justification for the action by Canada, noting that even if there are questions the embassy needed to ask, there are diplomatic back channels in which that could have been done.

He said he is confident that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take the necessary steps to resolve the issue diplomatically and ensure that there is mutual respect between the two nations

So CDS is Nigeria?
E remain you Mr.Minister... keep misbehaving.

You think the world isn't aware of the nonsense going on and you think those weak rebuttals from Tinubu's minions can sell your whited sepulchre?

This is a huge slap in the face for Nigeria. If we don't fix our country, every Nigerian will continue to face this kind of disrespect. A homeless European can easily visit Canada with just a flight ticket, but a Nigerian billionaire with mansions worldwide still needs to apply for a visa. No matter how hard you work or how wealthy you are, a country's tarnished image will always haunt you.

It's high time developed countries start denying visa to Nigeria's corrupt President too so he can sit in Nigeria, repent and start doing what is right.

That is the only way developed nations can help Nigeria develop.

Stop issuing visa to Nigerian politicians and their immediate family (wife and kids), starting from the President if possible.

If developed nations do this for just 4 years, Nigerian criminals calling themselves leaders will start doing what is right to make Nigeria a working nation undecided

For your information President Donald Trump is a convicted felon, so he is barred, & needs special permission to enter any of those your so called developed nations, but with his diplomatic p like Tinubu, he enters any country unhindered, so please sharap & stop promoting your ignorance.

Your argument holds no water, what is good for the goose, is also good for the gander.

Imagine an army commander leaving the battle field just to go watch some old men matching parade. Those Canadians must be wondering the kind of stupid leaders we have.
Oga minister mind your business, I respect you for your cutting edge ideas but don't meddle in this classless case.

It's disrespectful of the Canadian authorities to deny a top ranking Government official like CDS Visa.. it could cause a diplomatic row between Nigeria and Canada.
This is why Nigerian leaders need to sit down and reevaluate things.. stealing and embezzling your country's commonwealth to go stash abroad is plain stupid. You won't live forever and you might never get to spend up to half of what you're stealing.
Time to fix Nigeria and fix Africa abeg.

Stop all the illegal mining activities by foreigners in Nigeria, revoke their visa and send them packing.. See how Burkina Faso are using their resources (not up to mineral deposits in Zamfara State) to clear their debt and build their country.

Nigerians wake up!

Canada has a right to reject visa on any grounds found valid for them. its ur right to ask or find out why u were rejected and address it, not ranting about it.

If there is a valid reason it is not disrespect.

Ok but I’m not sure the leadership of Nigeria in the last ten years has demonstrated that Nigeria is deserving of any respect

Respect is not given, it is earned
You can’t force respect out of people. You have to earn it, that’s the only way

Your president has a drug case file with the FBI and you think any advanced countries will take his armed forces seriously?

Only God knows how much was budgeted for that needless visit and God used Canada to stop that extravagant spending. If Escobar has balls, he should expell the Canadian Ambassador immediately.

Lack of self respect and self awareness is Nigerian Govt officials whining and crying because Canada denied one of them visa.
The best response is to show them you dont need them, and not crying up and down
na Musa get the disrespect, not the generality of Nigerians...lots of ordinary Nigerians are still getting their visas approved, so Musa and his colleagues in government should carry their noise to aso villa and stop disturbing our peace
