No trade war? July 2018 when Trump placed a 25% tariff on Chinese ($34B) imports, China responded by slamming her own 25% tariff on US ($50B) agricultural imports (from an initial 3%). You know what it means?

US was targeting machineries and electronics (non-perishable goods), China was targeting agricultural, perishable goods! Chinese buyers opted for countries with smaller tariffs (Brazil, Argentina; for their Soybeans imports), while US still had to buy the Chinese goods. Guess who ended up paying the 25% tariff... The American people! Guess who's citizens committed suicide... American farmers! Guess who used $25B to bail their farmers... US!

The biggest winners is the alternative country from whom I can buy your products! (Brazil and Argentina in my previous story).

US just recently abandoned OPEC crude for Venezuela. Venezuela is the winner in this case. Now, that's what we call trade wars!!!
so how come did the US economy grow under Trump? We all know the American economy grew under him and more jobs were created

China can manipulate their economy to survive, but I pity Canada and Mexico.

Trump wants fair trade and balance in trade. If he does fight now, Americans will become consumers like Nigerians in the next decade.

Complete utter nonsense.

Trump doesn't want fair. The trade between America, Canada and the USA is one of the fairest in the world.

This is not a fair fight. The US has much upper hands. All these countries rely heavily on the US import to grow their economy. Even the retaliation may harm their economy more than it would do to the US economy.

For fact check.. The US is China's biggest importer. The US import from China more than the whole EU combined.

As of Canada, they are literally reliant on the US importation (of raw materials).
And you think it is for nothing that the US is China's biggest importer? Do you think US is doing it to help it's fiercest rival china to grow? lol Chinese stuff are freaking cheap. Labour cost is extremely low. If Trump stops importing stuff from China, what will he do? Produce locally? at what cost!? Goods will be freaking expensive, cost of living in US will be very high, there will be a need for sharp increase in wages and of course inflation will set in. And guess what? US cannot dare export such expensive made in US goods, 🤣 Chinese goods will be cheaper and maybe better. Trump has insisted on being dumb I am waiting to see how the movie unfolds.

Fair trade? Noo. He increased tariffs for the three countries just because he believes that fentanyl is being smuggled in from them. How's that related to fair trade? He's just bullying other countries which will hurt American consumers and US economy in the long run.

It's okay for Trump to overtax or ban Chinese products. China started it first. However, the worst person to fight with is your neighbour.

How? With 3% agriculture imports to USA or what?
DJInfluence: 12:28pm On Feb 02
The countries should forces and impose similar tariffs on America goods and services let's see if they won't feel the pinch too.

Big baby Trump in the Mud, China will show him pepper.

China can't do anything. Trump know where to hurt them economically. They ban all foreign products and companies but have their Chinese government controlled companies benefiting from the west ern market.

While kicking out the cheap labour right? He should ride on.
You are right - nothing is taking manufacturing away from China in the next 1000 years.
Don't mind these people, bring manufacturing back home at what cost? They think it was for fun that manufacturing went to china in the first place? Production is cheap in China and america can never beat that.

True. I hope and believe Trump will soft pedal on North America and face China squarely.

The Chinese had to sue because retaliatory tariffs would be ineffective against America due to the Chinese low reliance on American goods.

So how does he intend to fight his neighbors combined with China?
There’s no way this won’t affect American residents

But I think Mr Trump is just doing what is best for the US. For a while now Us is fast loosing its place as the HUB of development. Most Manufacturers dont have their Head offices in the US anymore and China and other Big Nation lures them out so they can buy them into their countries so they can share the knowledge and provide Jobs so their citizens.

If Trump achieves his goal of luring them back, US regains its place as 1st in the world in everything(The good old US) but i dont think that will be possible in 4 years.

The interesting part is that, even the big players who him are betting on the downfall of US economy.

America caused themselves this misfortune cos of the action taken over a century ago in the wake of the industrial revolution. Africa was there, they didn't come to cite their industry. They went to China where they claimed they'd enjoy cheap labour and population. I understand why...it's cos of racism and their usual hate for blacks. The little investment they had in south africa, Egypt,.Algeria, Tunisia keep growing till today and nobody had stolen their secrets yet.

China for their smartness, stole their intellectual properties and made the most of the opportunity. In near future, they'd become the world largest economy and dominate our planet. Mention one American company that doesn't have a factory or plant in China. They only move the finished products to America for sale and consumption. China benefited greatly from tax and export duties too. I'm not pitying the US at all.

Trump personally got angry over the intellectual property theft in his first term in office but there's nothing he could do to reverse this. It was already late to act. 60% of goods entering the US today are from China. I hope trump would thread with caution and not throw America into a dungeon with his policy as we're experiencing in Nigeria today. He should be humble enough to learn from us.

The moment he scrapped that equity in employment of federal workers, planes began to drop from the sky consecutively in a matter of hours cos the competent ones who were largely blacks were removed. He even said the course in the usa airforce credited to the black irals and war veterans should be removed and this was done immediately...what had been in existence for decades since the Vietnamese war. He should continue to sign more executive orders that would point towards racism. God is love over all, irrespective of race. Americans won't like what will happen to their nation at the end of his tenure
