Kano Governor ‘Empowers’ 2,386 Women With 7,158 Goats, Claims Initiative Worth N2.3Billion

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has empowered 2,386 women by distributing 7,158 goats as part of an economic empowerment initiative.

The distribution was carried out during the launch of the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project.

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, explained that the initiative is designed to promote livestock entrepreneurship among vulnerable groups by providing livestock to women across the state’s 44 local government areas.

According to the state government, each beneficiary will receive three goats.

He said that future phases of the programme will also see the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youths in the state. Yusuf also emphasized his istration’s dedication to reducing poverty through innovative and inclusive programs, highlighting the initiative as a key effort to empower women and youths while promoting economic self-reliance. He urged beneficiaries to use the livestock responsibly, stressing ability to ensure the program achieves its goals.

“This initiative is not merely about distributing livestock but creating a sustainable economic model that uplifts communities and reduces reliance on government assistance,” the governor stated.

This groundbreaking initiative, worth N2.3 billion, underscores the istration’s focus on sustainable development and empowering communities to drive economic growth from the grassroots.

“By integrating women and youth into the agricultural value chain, the program aims to enhance household income and reduce dependency on government aid.”

7 thousand goats? Did they clear all the goats in Kano? Peppersoup don yapa be dat. But they don't drink beer so that's a waste of good meat.

The governor is a fool. This is what he considers empowerment. Can he empower his wife or daughters with just three goats or any number of goats for that matter? So why does he think it is the good women of Kano who needs goats as empowerment?

I forgot! They do mass weddings for intending couples in Kano. Maybe they couldn't find enough husbands and decided to use goats as substitutes.

Great initiative.

One male goat to two female goats. Results should start coming up in less than one year. With seriousness and commitment, each woman should see their goats multiply speedily and the business aspect bring success.

Kano citizens should begin to experience sufficiency with such initiatives soon.

Added to that, it is hoped that cows and rams are given to farmers to grow and making the livestock business improve in the state.

Who will feed the goats?

Kano that is parading more than 4million out of school children roaming the street daily begging for food

Above is just my personal opinion

Nigerians deserve everything thrown at them by their leaders.

As petty as the empowerment might look, it's a good one. Those condemning such will still come here to lament the high cost of meat in the market.

In the northern part of our country, goats are considered valuable, income-generating assets. Therefore, it’s understandable why the governor might choose to distribute them as a means of empowerment. By providing goats to these women, they are being equipped with a sustainable source of income. Goats can be used for milk, meat, and breeding, which can significantly improve their livelihoods. With proper training and , this initiative has the potential to foster long-term economic growth and financial independence for the beneficiaries!

Goats are to be fed or reared by the farmers. What should be your concern is the farmers, rather than Marie wealth out of it, choose to eat their goats, which now are their seed.

So each woman will 3 goats each and you have empowered them ba?

I have said any politician who assumed office and chse revenge or fighting everyone as his oor her priority will ends up like obaseki now imagine the governor some fools were celebrating given 3 goats as empowerment.

Assuming each goat was bought at an outrageous price of 100,000 naira.

7158 × 100,000= 715,800,000 naira.

How come 2.3 billion naira was spent.
