NORTHERN GOVERNORS DEMAND CHANGE, WANT ENGLISH LANGUAGE REPLACED WITH HAUSA IN SCHOOLS Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has urged northern governors to reconsider the region’s education system by adopting Hausa as the primary language of instruction in schools. According to the governor, English should be taught only as a subject rather than being the medium of instruction in primary and secondary education across the North. He stated: “Adopting Hausa as the language of instruction in northern schools could significantly enhance the learning experience, promote enrolment, and foster a deeper understanding of subjects among pupils and students.” However, this proposal has sparked widespread concern among Nigerians from other regions. Many worry that such a move could negatively affect youth corps who are posted to northern states for their mandatory one-year service under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Moreover, there has been a flurry of reactions across social media platforms. One Facebook comment by "Andrew Beza" particularly stood out, and I quote: “And to One Nigeria, does this make sense? Abi, na another way of superimposing Hausa language on One Nigeria or making it a compulsory language for everyone? Think well, because you can’t come to southern Nigeria to speak Hausa to our children. Take note of that. Your NYSC graduates can only serve in northern Nigeria. Kpomqwem.” Guys, I’ll let you watch this video for yourself so you can see exactly what I’m talking about. The people of the ipobpigians region will not put in their request for their unpalatable-to-listen-to language to be adopted in that their unproductive erosion-ravaged enclave, they would instead start insulting northerners for this legitimate and noble demand.

I concur with hom but only if other ethnic groups in the North accepts. I will also recommend each ethnic groups in the South teach in their own mother language.

Chinjo2:What is the business of any ipobpigian in this matter? The north didn't say hausa should replace English in the land of the 5%er dot nation. By the way, China use Chinese language in their schools yet they have some citizens who school abroad. 3 Likes |

This topic has been raised in southwest for long by some language scholars that indigenous languages should be using to teach in the areas of mathematics and science for effective assimilation on our children at elementary level or secondary level I think but this was declined...

Poverty is indeed a disease. The Northern elite don't want the less privilege to know what is going on in this technological era. How can they speak English or communicate in English if the need arise? But Una children all schooled abroad and reside abroad. I blame their youth. 8 Likes |

Language is key to development and progress but come to think of it, the way our leaders spoke English and their languages in the 60s and the way they speak now is a testimonial to learning your language first because politicians today can't speak both English and their language well. An example is Makinde, another was Akeredolu when he was alive. They are many but these 2 guys came to my mind immediately.

Itaekuson3: I agree that adopting Hausa as the primary language of instruction in northern schools is a great way to preserve cultural heritage and promote linguistic diversity. It can also enhance the learning experience for students in the region. Just like the Russians and Chinese, who have made significant technological advancements while promoting their native languages, Nigerians can also achieve greatness by embracing their linguistic heritage. 1 Like 1 Share |

Do the minority tribes in the North also want that? Will they expect non-Hausa speaking youth corpers posted to their regions, to learn the language in order to serve in their schools? Well, they have a right to reject postings based on that. The hypocrisy is that, the children of these politicians would attend schools where the English language is the medium of instruction. |
