POLICE RECOVER TWO STOLEN VEHICLES THROUGH E-CMR PLATFORM

The Kano police command says it has recovered two stolen vehicles in the state.

A statement on Friday by Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police spokesperson, said the vehicles were recovered using the electronic central motor registry (e-CMR) platform.

Kiyawa said the suspects stole the first vehicle during a car test drive in Abuja, while the other car was taken in Kano where it was parked.

“The Kano state police command has made significant strides in the recovery of two (2) motor vehicles reported stolen through the NPF Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) Platform,” the statement reads.

“On 1st January 2025, a complaint was lodged by a resident of Abuja, stating that unidentified individuals approached him at his car stand located in Zuba, Abuja, expressing interest in a Toyota Corolla 2014 model.

“During a test drive, the two suspects brandished a pistol, threatened the victim, and subsequently fled with the vehicle including original documents and two keys. Similarly, on 4th January 2025, a Mercedes Benz C300 parked in front of Luxirian Event Center in Nassarawa GRA, Kano owned by a resident of Hadejia Road, Kano was reported stolen.”

The police spokesperson said the operatives, after obtaining relevant information from the e-CMR platform, recovered the stolen vehicles behind old airport in Bauchi state, and Shagari Quarters in Kano state respectively.

He urged motorists to utilise the e-CMR platform to their vehicles.

“Between 10th and 15th January 2025, the team after obtaining relevant information from the e-CMR platform, successfully recovered the two stolen motor vehicles behind old Airport in Bauchi State and Shagari Quarters, Kano respectively. Investigations into the two cases are ongoing,” Kiyawa said.

“The commissioner of police commended the detectives for their exemplary work in both cases and appreciated the public’s continued . He further assures that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order and combating crime within the State.

“Furthermore, anyone with information regarding criminal activities or suspected individuals to assist the Police by reporting to the nearest station or through the following numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.”

The time-gap between the time of stealing and the time of recovery in the above story shows that there is great improvement.

This is just to justify the re-introduction of the e-CMR.

Just two cars they managed to recover and they are already blowing their trumpet about it. The police need to know the number of cars that are stolen in this country on a daily basis and hide their faces in shame for recovering only two cars since they introduced that their nonsense platform.

Nice... But nothing to celebrate about this really! NPF is far below par generally and I hope the miracles that will bring that group to the international standards will happen in our life time.

If they like let them catch all the car thieves in Nigeria with the Ecmr, the redistance to it's introduction will be total.

ECMR cost about N6k in 2023. It's about 3k now. Car owners should have comprehensive insurance, ensure they have a car tracker, fuel demobilizer, car alarm system, also used steering or gear lock when cars are parked.

The part that is unclear is the 1st car stolen at gun point. Is it a Nigerian used car? I have done ECMR twice. I dont see provisions made for cars other than ed or numbered vehicles.

Why did the seller allow the car to be taken out on a test drive with the original documents and two keys?

Am sure a lot of car sellers will learn from this. It made no sense test-driving with original documents.

It works. That was how my cousin found his car that was stolen for over 8 years earlier this month. He was just at home when the police called him that he should come and collect his car. They caught the new owner while he was trying to it

my question too, it's only cars with number plates that can for ecmr, I wonder how those cars without were given ecmr, I've been using ecmr since 2023 so I know the registration process

Even if the story is a lie...what is N6k that will stop a car owner from ing his car on ecmr? Na stinginess and stubbornness dey do some people.

Na so. Why do I have to pay yearly for a one off registration? If someone acquires my car any time, the person can pay to update the registration.

This yearly payment is not necessary as long as the registration is not bothered on the car’s road worthiness.
