The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen has said the priority of the House is to ensure the age of the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills.

The Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu, while delivering a speech on the resumption of the House from the Christmas and new year recess on behalf of Abbas said both bills are pivotal to economic recovery and fiscal stability.

He said: “The legislative agenda of the House for 2025 prioritises the age of the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills, both of which are pivotal to economic recovery and fiscal stability.

"These reforms are essential for broadening the tax base, improving compliance and reducing dependency on external borrowing.

The House will ensure that these reforms are equitable and considerate of the needs of all Nigerians, particularly the most vulnerable.

Abbas said as the lawmakers engage with the budget and other legislative priorities, they must remain meticulous in their scrutiny, ensuring that every proposal aligns with national objectives and delivers tangible benefits to the citizenry.

He was of the opinion that the planned Citizens’ Town Hall on the budget would further reinforce transparency and inclusivity in our decision-making processes.

Liejeria don enter one chance.

Any bill you see these people eager to , just know that it won’t favour anybody but themselves.

Anyway, what law have they ever made that has favoured the masses.

Trust them with your welfare at your own peril.

If this man should return after 2027, whether by rigging or otherwise, after crushing North like this, then I will accept he is the jagaban indeed, but if he is removed like Jonathan, then he is a fool.

All good roads cities and stable electricity in a developed countries like Dubai uS and UK are all gotten from wide range taxation from its citizens .

So tax reform should favour both the elite and the middle men.
As long as it's used in a proper way it supposed to.

May God bless PBAT
May God bless Nigeria 🙏

I think the loud and vociferous pushback from the Southerners on social medial shocked some of the leaders in the North.

I believe they initially assumed, once they come together to denounce the tax bills, the President will panic (as Southern Presidents have tended to do historically) and roll back the bills.

However, the President's refusal to yield to NEC request for withdrawal, his statement that there is no going back on the bills, and the refusal of middle beltans to the predominant Northern position, plus the fierce (though sometimes unnecessarily caustic) social media response weakened the Northern resolve.

I think this is a significant and hopefully irreversible psychological victory for the South.

They threatened fire and hailstorm, and vowed to vote out the President come 2027. The man called their bluff, and said he doesn't care.

When you wan bully someone and the person say, oya, go on, I no fear you. You go weak na.

The sense of political supremacy by the North is being consigned to history.

Never again should a President from the South be afraid to do what is right for the country out of fear of losing Northern votes.

If they won't vote for you, they won't vote for you even if you toe their line.

Mr Jonathan learnt a bitter lesson.

How is he not a good leader?

Who is...Mr Jonathan, or Mr Buhari?

Mr Tinubu is the best or at least, on course to be the best, elected leader Nigeria has had since independence.

If you dispute it, name a better leader. And list what they did that made them the best.
