Hello Nairalanders,

I need your help! I’m a mum preparing lunch boxes for my kids, and I’m looking for creative, healthy, and age-appropriate snack ideas. My daughter is 3 years old and in Nursery 1, while my son is 1 year old and in crèche.

I want snacks that are:

Easy to prepare
Healthy and nutritious
Appealing to kids
Mess-free (since they’re for school)
Please share your tried-and-true snack ideas or anything your kids love. Suggestions for both homemade and store-bought snacks are welcome.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Looking forward to your ideas.

First, understand that balanced diet is a scam.

If it wasn't, the rich people who can afford the best balanced diet should rarely fall sick. But look around you.
The rich fall sick even with their ability to afford the best balanced diet. You think the poor will Stand a chance?

Eating Balanced diet is the Major cause of all bodily sickness that isn't mechanical accident

There are different classes of food and they have different rules to combination.

Have you written somewhere I wonder, that school too is a scam?

Op, I'm hoping you have a brain in your head and can reason that what the rich do or don't do has nothing to do with what's right or wrong, as money has no correlation whatsoever with sense.

A balanced diet is essential for proper growth, and I would strongly encourage you cultivate that in your children so they will not depart from it as they grow.

Please consider the advice you are given, and do not blindly follow the supposed rich and be foolish.

My 6 and 4 year olds take home-made pap, checkers custard, golden morn or drink tea with bread (sparingly) for breakfast at home. This is their Monday to Friday morning starter.

For lunch to school, wifey packs in their food flasks:

◾White rice with stew and fish/boiled egg/diced meat
◾Jollof rice with fish/boiled egg/diced meat
◾Fried rice with fish/boiled egg/diced meat
◾Palm oil rice with fish/boiled egg/diced meat
◾Boiled or fried yam with fried egg in tomato sauce
◾Boiled or fried potato with fried egg in tomato sauce
◾Fried plantain, fried egg in tomato sauce and fish
◾Spaghetti with stew and fish/boiled egg
◾Spaghetti jollof with fish/boiled egg
◾Noodles with fish/boiled egg
◾Moi moi broken into small chunks, plantain and fish.

I might have omitted some other foods but that's majorly it, I think.

She also packs a Happy Hour Juice and a Biscuit in their lunch boxes as snack for them.

When she makes zobo, they go with that in 35cl plastic bottles in place of happy hour juice.

Of course, their water bottles are always filled with water and packed in their lunch boxes for them to drink at will.

They never finish their food so when they get home, they sit at the dinning table and are forced to finish the food.

There's no wasting of food in my home.

My 11-month old goes to creche with prepared pap in a flask, cerelac, drinking water, a happy hour juice and hot water in a fask for preparing the cerelac.

In addition to that, plantain and fried egg,
For fluid, yoghurt and home made smoothie 🥤 would be cool

Work with what your kids like eating .

What works for A might not work for B. ..
Simply experiment with what they usually eat at home at lunch.....

Children and never finishing their meals. Thanks for the input. My soon to be 3 year old hardly likes eating and enjoys select food. Hmm
