If u sell ur dollar what will u use the naira to do? Spend it ? Use it to buy an asset?

Like itsrm suggested, if u didn't buy the dollars when it was above N1,500/1$ you shouldn't sell it. If you got the dollar when it was relatively lower, then keep ur dollar.

The thing is this,my money is in CFA, and any drop in dollars equally affects the CFA. It has dropped more than #200 between monday and today. I want to pay someone i own 6.5m this month as promised by me. 2M cfa will almost pay that money, but the CFA dropping fast. So i don't know if i should count my loses and just change and pay and plead with the person to give me more time hoping it might rise back.

Na Ibime go fit help u with an advice on this . I really don’t much about CFA vs USD vs NGN

Lol grin.....Na still d same thing. The CFA is pegged to euro. So any effect the naira has on dollar/euro has the same corresponding effect on the CFA.

For example....A 1000cfa to #2750 as at Sunday,today it's #2515.

In the olden days they would have elevated Balthazar to godhood in his own time like happened with Phillip and Alexander the Great.
The Ancient Greeks called it Apotheosis.

Balthazar the Great. 1st of his name. Victor ludorum. Mentorius imperious.

As a nephew of the president, his acquittal was expected.

The wife was not gonna leave him - not with his affluence and their 6 kids.

She did the math and took the only sensible course of action.

I applaud.

BREAKING: Okuama Community Leader, Pa Oghoroko Tortured To Death In Nigerian Military's Detention

The detained President-General of Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Pa James Achovwuko Oghoroko is dead.

Oghoroko, one of the community leaders arrested by the Nigerian military since August 2024, reportedly died in the military detention on Wednesday, SaharaReporters reliably gathered.

According to top sources, he died following excessive torture and alleged inhumane treatment.

News of Pa Oghoroko's death was broken on Thursday by leaders of Okuama at an emergency meeting of the Community.

The community leaders also decried that another detained leader, "Pa Dennis Okugbaye, is presently battling with a life-threatening ailment in the undisclosed military facility".

SaharaReporters learnt that the news of Pa Oghoroko's death has thrown the entire Okuama community into mourning.

SaharaReporters had reported that Pa Oghoroko, the President General of Okuama community was arrested between August 18 and 20, 2024 alongside Prof Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, Dennis Okugbaye, Pa Anthony Ahwemuria and Mrs Rita Akata, and all of them have remained in an unknown detention facility till now.

The Okuama community, had in August this year, through their lawyers filed suit No: FHC/WR/CS/84/2024 between James Oghorokor and other versus the Nigerian Army and two others "demanding N100million for their illegal detention".

The community had earlier, on the heels of the demolition and destruction of Okuama community after the killing of 17 soldiers, approached the Federal High Court, Warri, through their lawyers led by Chief Albert Akpomudje SAN and others, to seek redress.

The community through their learned Counsel filed Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/41/2024, FHC/WR/CS/42/2024, and FHC/WR/CS/42/2024, the suits are now being consolidated.

At its last sitting on 20th November, 2024, the Federal High Court had adjourned the bail application of the arrested leaders to the 9th December, 2024 to hear the motion.

However, before the return date, one of the Claimants, Pa Oghoroko, was said to have given up the ghost on Wednesday, 4th December, 2024 in the military detention without being charged to court since their arrest in August.

Meanwhile, Chief Albert Akpomudje SAN, who is leading the community's legal team has described the news of the PG's death as "disturbing", adding that he "will meet with the family and his team to know what steps to take next".

When people call this country a zoo or jungle some so called patriots/government apologists will come online to rebuke u and even insult u because they don’t know where ur pain is coming from.

Just look at! The army arrested these community leaders since August, detained them in their facility (which is illegal by the way ) and refused to charge them to court .

Now let us all agree the military is headed by animals in human skin, but what about the civilians heading the courts ?

The families of the detained community leaders approached federal high court to challenge the illegal detention of their relatives but the court kept adjourning to hear their bail application till one of them died on December 4 and the next date of hearing is December 9.

The crazy thing about this is that it can happen to anyone; u can be a victim of circumstance and u will be kept incommunicado from ur loved ones till u give up the ghost like this man. His only crime was being a community leader of a community where the killings of soldiers happened . The army cannot prove they were involved in the killings because if they can, they would’ve charged them to court . Military detaining people for 4 months plus without trial is illegal no matter how u want to look at it .

These things only happen in societies where rule of law don’t apply .

The FG is desperate in my opinion, and this looks like (to my layman eyes) a hail mary attempt to try to at the very least pacify the citizens for a little bit, and with a bit of luck stimulate busines investments.

This very week, it was announced that FG was borrowing 2.2 billion dollars to service a deficit in the current budget. That doesn't sound like a country that can afford to give away revenue in tax cuts, especially in corporate income tax.

I have checked and seen that apparently businesses with less than 25m in annual turnover already dont pay corporation tax (so I dont know why it's included in the bill), but the current corpration tax rate is 30% for companies with 100m turnover, which the bill is proposing to bring down to 25%, which is a 17% reduction in tax revenue from eligible businesses if my maths is correct.

Then they also put a line in that I found interesting.
Notwithstanding any provision of this Act or any other enactment, where,in any year of assessment, the effective tax rate of a company is less than 15%, such company shall recompute and pay an additional tax that makes its effective tax rate equal to 15%.

Now this rule apparently only applies to MNCs that turnover minimum of 20 Billion a year. The bill is basically saying you guys must pay at least 15% of that money. But the same bill proposes that that these companies should be paying 25% (currently 30%). Apart from the fact that the 5% difference on 20 billion revenue is 1billion naira in lost revenue - now companies know they are allowed to cook their books recompute their tax liability to hit minimum 15%, and I fail to see any incentives to sur that threshold. I'll leave you to workout the difference between paying 30% of 20billion and 15% of 20 billion in tax

I'm not a tax guy, or an ing guy, or even a maths guy...but I can see that a couple of things dont seem to add up. I would expect a cash strapped government to be raising taxes not cutting them, unless, at least in my head, government is getting ready for a major economic decline and is trying to soften the blow.

Edit :
Having done some additional digging, I see that Small company is defined in current CIT tax act as companies with turnover of 25m per annum.

The new bill proposes to change the defining threshold to companies that earn up to 50 million naira.

Currently, the government is entitled to 20% of that 50m in corporate tax - which is 10 million naira business. This bill is proposing that the government gets none of that revenue. LOL.

Omo e go be.
I wouldn't describe the government as desperate, but rather strategic. The proposed bill suggests that a single agency will oversee tax collection in Nigeria, allowing other agencies like customs, NIMASA and other Revenue generation agencies to focus on their core responsibilities. This centralized approach is expected to eliminate revenue leakages associated with multiple government agencies handling tax collection.

The bill also introduces lower Company Income Tax (CIT) and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax rates, aimed at incentivizing wealthy individuals to establish small and medium-scale enterprises. Additionally, rumors suggest that the federal government will receive funds from terminated forward crude sales initiated by the previous istration. Some new oli fields are also being prepped for production

If implemented effectively, this could be a win-win situation for the country. However, Nigeria's economic landscape can be unpredictable, and sometimes defies conventional economic principles.
