I love and respect my dad so much
He is old in age but he can still drive

The issue is anytime I'm driving him
Instead of him to relax
He will turn to Conductor every 2 seconds, sometimes he will shout that I'm speeding to fast but I'm not going past 60 kmph

Today I drove him to village and on the way he did the same shouting and telling me to look out for bumps.

This distracts me and makes me lose focus. Out of anger i shouted back at him to keep quiet and allow me drive.
That i have eyes and i can see the bumps

Now i told him that he should never enter my car or unless he will keep quiet and allow me concentrate on my driving.
No talking, he should keep it shut through out the whole journey.

Now he is feeling bad, did i do anything bad??

πŸ‘‰ Buy a drink ur dad likes.
πŸ‘‰ Present the drink to him
πŸ‘‰ Sit down with him and apologise for ur outburst and remind him u r now an adult who can drive without been told what to do.

He is just been a dad. When u get to face similar scenario with ur son. U'll understand better.

If it was ur mom, i believe u'll find a way to say sorry.

Do same for pops. And make him smile for the next few days. Pops will always be pops. Mine will still want to tell me how to operate WhatsApp, somtin wey na me teach am o πŸ˜‚ . I just dey smile even though atyms its annoying. Dem be our first teacher, they believe they'll teach us everything, its kinda a habit for everyone

Op, you be werey grin. Why you wan use your old man take practice fast and furious? cheesy.

Reminds me of my friend's mom... Whenever she boards my keke,if I'm on a high speed, she'd say --"Obax,no kill me abeg". grin

Op, relax.....The truth is that these our old parents are even scared of death more than us,the youngies cheesy. And if you can live peacefully with them, you can as well survive being in a relationship with a Nigerian banny, cuz they can be both annoying, but patience is the key ,if you really wanna survive both undecided

I will find a good spot to park and my father will start pointing that i should park in another spot.

Sometimes he will shout that i should go left. Then he realize that right us the correct road.

As a driver, you have vision of where you are going.

Now imagine enger telling you move here, go there, stop right, slow down, go fast...

I had to warn him never to ever enter my car again. Unless he will keep quiet while i drive.

Now he has reported me to my mum. My mum told me he feels bad.

You were very rude indeed, but sometimes being rude is all they hear.

You've told him. Now do what wise Natbrowny has ordered. And in future learn to control your emotions.

Then what would you do if you are driving my uncle's wife ,She shouts blood of Jesus at every bump grin and always panicky .
I think hers is phobia cos you'd feel her fear once she gets in a car even though they've owned cars for over 45 years.

Most of what ur teachers, doctors, cleric leaders tell you to do. They dont do it. But they gotta tell u coz thats their job.

At the bolded, you sef get choco for head grin

I think your old man has a good perception of speed:

Most people don’t realize that most accidents occur on the average 30 - 50 km, when most people are inside the car, their perception is altered but pedestrians hit at this speed; there is above 50% probability it would be fatal for them. Talk of less of at 60km.

Even if you are right to so extent you are right, about your dad trying to control the driving from enger seat, there is no need bring up the matter again. Na man both of una be lol, just do something extraordinarily nice for him - put him on his favorite cruise - favorite drink & food - seat with him and gist.

When you are driving him, you sef try chilling. No medal for who reach there first. 2 seconds of calming down can save your life oo

Omo u took those words from my mouth, no wonder this people don't see anything about insulting other people's father

If u can tell your own biological father to keep quiet then Wetin remain?

I pity the girl that will marry people like this, someone who shuts his father down won't see any big deal about beating any girl

You could've told him in so many ways that he's distracting you, but you decided to tell him to keep quiet, and now you're asking if what you did is wrong, think the matter and evaluate it yourself, ask yourself if your son should tell you to keep quiet how will you feel.

You were not just rude but foolish. You just said he is old, that's enough reason you should keep cool and not take those serious.

You better go and apologize to him and let him before he goes angry with you.

Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

There are blessings attached to honoring our parents and elders.

Shalom!

Lol.... When I read your caption, I already knew this would be the behaviour of your Dad. My dad does that too. The only difference is that it is his car. They can be paranoid and never trusting the skills of others. Although ya papa's own from your write up seems too much. I do caution my own pop man too cox I hate distractions cheesy

It's old age. Learn how to manage him the way they managed your tantrums when you were a child but you cannot any of it. Next time, put him in the back seat at the owner's corner. Put an item on the front seat. Give him a newspaper, occupy his mind with something else. Manage your dad, he is your best mentor and when he dies, you will learn not to make the same mistakes for the next generation.
