The person I had was my sister's fiance..but they are now separated... Should I fill in NO and explain as such if the VO asks me?

Your sister's fiance is not family, why did you put yes?

Depending on the school; some schools assign ission officer or counselor to applicants. Otherwise, you may have to check the issions page for the school for relevant information on how to go about this or better still write the ission chair/coordinator (or whatever role the person plays on ission matters) or even the ission office on deferral request. Make a request for the deferral and state the reason for it to be visa application concerns as you have not been able to schedule an appointment to get a VISA. You can add that there was a major change to the VISA application portal in August 2024 and since then, there has been widely reported technical issues on the new portal as you know more than 20-50 other prospective applicants / students who are also affected.
However, you are seeking the deferral to give you ample time to get an appointment pending when the new portal issues will be fixed permanently. You can go ahead to share screenshot from the portal too.

Hello everyone,

I need your advice regarding a deferral request and my visa process. My visa appointment has been planning on Preapproval request is being processed. for a month now, and my school is resuming on January 13. I’m planning to request a deferral to a later semester.

However, I’ve already ed my current I-20 to the visa portal, but I haven’t booked an appointment yet. Should I restart the visa application process by ing the new I-20 when it’s issued? Also, could you guide me on the steps to successfully request the deferral from the school

Seems they are fast clearing the pre approval requests. Submitted on 23/11, paid SEVIS on 25/11, and just got approved. No dates in Abuja, earliest is February, 2025. Lagos has opening for tomorrow and most of the days in December.

Please, do we have someone here who did interviewed in Abuja and picked up in Lagos free of charge? How long did it take to get the port? If this applies to you or you know someone in this situation, please speak up and help a soul.🙏🙏

Technically, it is the designated school official who can initiate a SEVIS transfer at the request of the student. The student can't transfer their SEVIS record on their own.

Your case is a bit different since you do not have an active record (never itted to the US to pursue a course of study). The SEVIS fee is valid for about a year so you may not have to pay. If you are sure that you want to attend the second school, the DSO of the second school and let them know that you have an I20 from your first school but want to attend the second school. This is pretty straightforward as many students change their schools before or after they have received their I20s and/or visas.

Please how do do this? Do I need to the previous school to let them know? Ps, I've already gotten my i-20 for the first school, I asked for a deferral which they granted and issued another i-20 for spring but I've decided to accept another school... 1. You did not state whether you had previous appointment letter on the old portal which indicated you and your 2 kids as visa applicants?

2. If you have the old appointment letter as described above at hand you will not need to pay another visa fee for all of you. Even with your old GTB visa fee receipts, you do also not need to pay another visa fee again.

My bad i skipped that information, yes i do have an appointment letter on the old portal and I also do have GTB visa fee receipts. Kindly share how to go about migrating to AVITS and securing a new visa appointment date.
