Matrix 2003 Fuel Consumption (817 Views)

Hello house. My 2003 Matrix has P0450 and P0451 codes. I scanned after I noticed that my fuel consumption is 12-13 MPG, when it should be around 21-22MGP. I've checked live data for my car, oxygen sensors are fine, ignition timing is within spec, MAF is fine, basically all the sensors surrounding fuel consumption are fine. My fans are factory setting and my thermostat is present. I don't know what else to check, as I'm not sure these two codes can be responsible for such a difference in MPG. Please any help will be appreciated. |

If you have obd 2 scanner you can check the short term and long term fuel trims see the % percentage to see what it looks like, also a leaking fuel injector and very high fuel pressure to the rail may not trigger any code on your scanner all these have to be look into….

You can change the fuel tank cap too see if it clear the code

temizeee: oh, thank you. I will check the fuel trims, must have skipped my mind to check them. The high fuel pressure, do you have any idea of how to check that? As for a leaking fuel injector, the pulse width of my injectors at idle is usually 2.4,2.5, which is within spec. Can an injector still be leaking with such a good pulse width? |

bacco2000: If you're in Ibadan and not too far from Orita axis, I can scan for you and check the live data, yours might have more info as to what might be the problem. |

Scanned my car today again, my long term fuel trim is -1.594%. I don't think this is the problem, as it is still within recommended limits. My short term fuel trim ranges from 1.something to 5.something, which is also still normal. Checking fuel pressure at the rail is my next step. 1 Like |

Old and worn out nigerian used engine cannot get factory recommend MPG. Especially Nigerian badly used engine. Its simple because of loose of compression. One last thing you can try is to pour 1k tyna on a slightly above half tank. Your plugs should be dry brown if your engine is burning fuel correctly. 1 Like |
