A large river in Mekong Delta, Southern Vietnam. This river is about the size of river Niger yet you will see lots of cargo and ferry ships on it. But river Niger is wasting away.

No boats used for tourism anywhere along the Niger River; not in Asaba, Onitsha, Lokoja or Baro.

We don’t use it to move goods or engers. No serious economic value is being created with it.

I had to rest my today since 2011. What the guy is saying is true because I recently thought about Vietnam. But my Phd is holding me back.

Someone who can barely express themselves in English, would run to Vietnam and expect a teaching job to be thrown at him.

They will not do even basic research, won’t try to have all the necessary qualification and when they’re eventually rejected, they try to project their misery on others.

I repeat again, here are the requirements for anyone hoping to get ESL jobs in Vietnam;

1. University degree.
2. TESOL/TEFL/Celta.
3. IELTS (band 7.5).

Teaching is a career and you’re supposed to qualified before expecting to get a job, it’s not a menial job.

I know many Nigerians who are teaching and changing jobs in Vietnam. I also know lots of Nigerians who are frustrated and in misery.

Smart people are those who weigh their options, and consider the pros and cons, before making any decision.

The best countries to emigrate to are obviously the advanced ones; United States, Australia, Canada, UK, New Zealand and EU.

I wanted to emigrate to Canada and had concluded my transcripts and other documentation before they suddenly changed certain policies and the cost skyrocketed. I was forced to abort my mission. In retrospect, I thank God I did. Considering the fact that post graduate studies there no longer guarantee a resident permit when you conclude your studies. We are talking about expenses that might be up to 35 million plus yet no guarantee!

Similar challenges are also associated with the other countries I listed above.

Here are the most advanced Asian countries; Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and China? How easily can you actually emigrate there talk more of getting decent jobs?

Which other countries are left? South America, Africa and rest of Asia. Which of these places can you get a professional job that can earn you up to 2 million naira per month? Outside IT related jobs?

So, why would you go to Vietnam if you believe you have better opportunities elsewhere?

Why would you travel to Vietnam if you’re not qualified enough to teach ESL?

Why would you believe an agent who promises you factory jobs in Vietnam when a simple research will easily debunk that?

It’s never easy anywhere as an immigrant and it’s even worse when such immigrant failed to plan very well. The more Nigerians travel out without adequate preparation, the more they fail and the more we are blacklisted— a terrible vicious cycle.
