The road, which had initially raised hopes for better infrastructure and ease of access, has now become a source of frustration as severe flooding plagues the area.

Motorists and commuters along the busy Udeagbara By Road in Ahiaba Umueze Owuala in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State during the weekend were stranded, owing to a gridlock caused by flood in the aftermath of a heavy downpour.

SaharaReporters learnt that the road was recently commissioned by Governor Alex Otti.

“Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has continued to match words with action with the formal commissioning of three-newly reconstructed roads in Aba. “The roads are Udeagbala Road, Umuimo Road and MCC/Old Express Road.

“Governor Otti described the three roads as strategic, saying that the Udeagbala and Umuimo roads in particular are more or less alternative from the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway into the busy Aba-Owerri Road and to Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) road, while the MCC/Old Express Road would boost the economy of Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the State,” a statement by Kazie Uko, the governor’s former Chief Press Secretary had read during the commissioning.

However, few months after the road was opened, residents have expressed deep concerns over the failure of the newly rehabilitated road and drainage system.

The road, which had initially raised hopes for better infrastructure and ease of access, has now become a source of frustration as severe flooding plagues the area.

It was learnt that the community, which houses the Abia State Teaching Hospital, is facing significant challenges as the drainage system, meant to alleviate flooding, has failed to perform its intended purpose.

As a result, residents are now left grappling with constant waterlogging, making it difficult to carry out their daily activities.

Many have reported having to wait until floodwaters subside before leaving their homes, especially after rainfalls.

In a live video shared by a community member, Possible Nwaohamuo on Sunday, he highlighted the extent of the problem.

In the video, Nwaohamuo made the appeal to the state government, urging for immediate intervention.

He pointed out that the floodwaters from the failed drainage system have not only taken over homes but have also severely affected schools and places of worship in the area.

“The flooding is a disaster for our community,” Nwaohamuo said during his broadcast.

“We can no longer go about our daily activities in peace. Our children cannot go to school, and our places of worship are submerged. We need the government to come to our rescue.

“Despite the rehabilitation project being relatively new, its failure has raised questions about the quality of work done and the long-term sustainability of such projects.”

I was also in Abia state on saturday, I took Ukwa East road, along Akwete enroute Osisioma.

The information is true, flood took over the road, it's time to call out the governor before the road become something else.

This is the type of mediocre, half baked governance that demented Peter Obi wanted to entrench in the country but he was defeated.

After months of IPOB-style propaganda that Aba has constant light, go to different Abia state social media pages and see them lamenting that epileptic power supply is now the new normal in Aba since EEDC left.

Well I was in Abia state and I saw a road that was flooded and people said it was newly constructed by the governor, maybe there are more newly constructed roads that are flooded in Abia state.
U see all these names u called, I don't know anyone but at least I was able to convince u that I was in Abia and the road is bad.
Infact in Akwete road, two big motor fell due to bad road, I don't know if they have removed it but it was there on saturday

You don't even know the road in question and you are claiming that you ed through there that it is flooded. Even the Akwete road to Azumini/Opobo that you said is bad that two big motor fall there, is a Federal road, the money for the road was embezzled by Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Senate President, he is from Ukwa East. Even PorthHarcout road is a Federal road, but Governor Otti is working on it with Julius Berger ..

Abia State man that doesn't know Ariaria Junction... Lie lie. You are a known Labour Party and Obi hater here, so stop lying

Now listen carefully.
I never said I was from Abia state, I said I was there and I never said Akwete road is not federal road, I said the road is bad.
So I don't understand this ur outburst except u are trying to hide the truth that the road is flooded.
Why are u even trying to hide a bad road from the public knowledge, do u plan on kidnapping motorists along that road?

When will Otti complete the 6km PH road he start last year? Why is he taking him over a year to construct a mere 6km road.

We are not talking about Akwete road, Oga... We are talking of Teaching Hospital road which is not flooded...

The more you argue the more you appear dumb. The topic is on Teaching Hospital road and someone pointed out that he is presently in Aba, and proved to you that he knows the area, mentioned names for you .. and you are talking about a totally different area

Everything is not about hatred, road is flooded and that is the truth, I am just raising awareness.

Even inn Rivers state here, a radio station every evening always talk which road is filled with traffic and how motorists could avoid that road, and it's a very interesting programme, nobody calls it hatred.
I don't know Abia people used to hide their own.

When you start asking right questions.

Aba-Portharcourt road is a federal highway under reconstruction by Federal government.

I am disappointed with the way some of these construction companies are building roads in Aba.

Aba has a flat land. These construction companies will make the roads higher than compounds of people's home. Which makes it impossible for water to run off from the compound into drainage and makes it easy for compounds to be flooded.
