My organization went to an Urhobo Community near Ughelli for a sensitization programme and we went to a school.

The kids were something else. shocked

Too Dull and had very poor assimilation of simple sentences and examples. embarassed
When you say 'The boy was hit by a car', you need it to explain and explain. sad

During Break, I saw them bringing out Nylon Palm Oil Rice, Madiga, Bongafish, etc to eat
and I suspected 'Could this be the cause of their academic struggles'? undecided

because Chilren in Urban areas with their Cornflakes, Golden Morn, Indomie and Fried Eggs feeding were clearly better.

So DOES FOOD INFLUENCE A CHILD'S IQ DEVELOPMENT? 🤔

no, i don't think so.
environment is a very big factor when it comes to one's intelligence.
though environment in this sense includes where you live, the people you meet and associate with or the type of things you come in with, like the kind of book you read, the kind of music you listen to , the money you have and things like that.

Yes, food does influence a child's IQ development. A balanced diet from different food classes is essential for brain development. Proteins (like eggs, fish, and beans) brain growth and repair.

Carbohydrates (like rice and yam) provide energy for brain function, while healthy fats (from foods like avocados and nuts) are crucial for brain structure and function.

Vitamins and minerals (from fruits and vegetables) enhance memory, focus, and cognitive abilities. Without proper nutrition, cognitive development may be hindered, affecting a child's ability to learn and process information.

However, other factors like education quality and environment also play significant roles.

I Just had to see it from that Angle. undecided

Oil Rice, Kpokpogari, 3days Akpu and Soup etc, with little Assorted meals should definitely have Influence on a child's IQ. embarassed

But there are some Adults that grew up in Villages but grew up to become Doctors, Bankers, Professors, etc.

Former Gov James Ibori for instance grew up as a Village Boy in OGhara Community in Delta State but went on to Study economics in UNIBEN. sad

But in my time, some Rich Men's Kids who took Jollof Rice, Fried Turkey, etc in school still performed poorly in academics. 🤔😒

From experience, the state of the belly can influence focus.
From scriptures, we also know the spirit of excellence can influence brilliance too.
From biology, we know nutrition can stunt growth and the brain grows.
From your example, it is likely these students speak urhobo and pidgin English at home so are finding your advanced grammar too steep in their learning curve.

That's why I avoided using urban or rural distinctions. Living in a village doesn’t automatically mean someone lacks a balanced diet, and living in the city doesn’t guarantee one either.

What truly matters is that a child eats good and balanced meals/diet, especially during their early developmental stages. Proper nutrition is essential, not just for children, but for adults as well.

Great point but Generally, their Assimilation Levels was really low. sad

Maybe language was the problem as you have said. 😒

I believe Milk is the key to high IQ development in children which the urban kids get while eating the cornflakes, Golden morn and other cereals. Also, they take lots of milk in their beverages.

Yes, good food plays a role in intelligence.

Not all the time, but many times.

But the two greatest factors are the IQ of the mother, and Folic acid.

Any woman that has not started taking Folic acid tablets is playing with the brain development of her future children.

Folic acid is critical for the development of the brain in babies and doctors advise that every single lady should start taking Folic acid before they even start having children.

If you have a fiancee, buy her Folic acid tablets regularly for the sake of your children.

It's not about eating Turkey, fried rice. It's about eating the right food.

Food affects one intelligence oo don't let anyone deceive you it's multifactorial..if u can have access to nutritious food then a good environment with quality stimuli won't be a problem.

Op those food you mentioned that are consumed by urban kids are junks by the way. If those kids grew up with english as their primary communication tools as the urban kids, then your comparison would’ve made sense. Nutritional wise, the village kids are eating better and healthier meals. Did you consider speaking their native dialect to them to gauge their assimilation? Pretty sure if they spoke in their dialect to you, you’ll dumbfounded too.

Yes, food can affect a child's IQ. Nutrients like omega-3s brain health, while a balanced diet provides energy and prevents health issues that might hinder cognitive development. However, genetics, environment, and education also play important roles.

In this situation I'll say not at all, people in village even sometimes have better balance diet

It's more of their environment and people they relate with, you will be surprised how dumb the story lines of the movies they watch (and believe)

Food does play a part in the development of a child's brain, but the foods you saw the kids bringing out from their bags are not bad. There are good food.

So, the foods are not the reason they are dull. It could be as a result of poor teaching method and environment.

PIKIN WAE GO DULL GO DULL EXPECIALLY WHEN PARENTS NEGLECT THEIR ROLE IN THE CHILD

WHAT IMPROVES PERFORMANCE IN A CHILD IS EXPOSURE AND SOCIAL INFLUENCE FROM PEOPLE THEY INTERACT WITH.

CATCH THEM YOUNG, GROOM THEM AND TRAIN THEM TO BE SMART

DON'T JUST DEPEND ON Teachers AND SCHOOL TO DO THE WORK FOR YOU.

PAY FOR MENTORSHIP PROGRAM AND ENROLL THEM TO CYBER TECH AND OTHER TECH INSTITUTES.

FOOD DOESN'T MAKE PEOPLE SMART IT JUST HELPS THE BODY TO BE WELL STRUCTURED AND WORK EFFECTIVELY

Just a drop in the levels of vitamins needed for cognitive development is enough to damage the mental capacity of the child for life... That's why God in his infinity of wisdom made it easy to obtain said vitamins in the life of child irrespective of standard of living, in some cases, it is as simple as exposing your child to the early morning sun which is rich in vitamin d and carotene for brain development..

Yes, especially when it is balanced diet. Exclusive breastfeeding helps at childbirth. Eating sweet potatoes helps the brain.

Yes it does, Food rich in iron, calcium and other minerals contribute better to brain development and thus better IQ

But this is not applicable to your case, your outreach students problem is there environment.

Give them similar problem in their native language and see how they solve it.. The problem is English
