I am faced with an issue and will require advise on this. I have been trying to get married through UK registry via the council to a British citizen since May this year. Because an immigrant is involved, our marriage notice application had to be reviewed by the Home Office. Hoe Office replied saying they will increase the notice from the usual 28 days to 70 days to investigate if its a sham marriage.

They requested a couple of documents such as 6 months bank s and credit card statement for the interview which i mostly had all my bank s printed but only went with my active credit card statement (I had others but rarely used it). Unknowingly to me they already did a search and discovered i didnt submit the inactive credit card statement. Thus because of this we were issued a non-compliance document and were told to start over again.

We started process for the 2nd marriage notice interview on August 1st but was yet issued another document requesting a 70 days investigation time ending October 10th. We are going to Nigeria for traditional and church wedding in September. The issue now is my PSW ends December 31st. Thus, i am thinking if it will not be seen to be dodgy going for a Nigerian court wedding for a marriage certificate whilst they might have the data information that i have earlier applied to a UK registry for court wedding which underwent investigation.

Thought of this considering, i will need the marriage certificate to apply for a Spousal visa and will need to apply or get a reply for the Spousal visa before December as my supervisor at work seldom ask about next plan considering they're unwilling to sponsor back office staff.

It could also be that her visa has already expired, and using a cloned SIA licence was the easiest way for her to get work. I don't expect anyone with a valid visa that allows them to work will stoop as low as forging SIA licence. There are many companies offering free training and licence after you get employed by them. G4S is one. I worked for them briefly back in the day whilst I was at uni in 2010. They trained us in-house and paid for our hotel, food and SIA licence application.

If PSW visa expires and marriage has not completed and you haven’t obtained any other work visa then, return to Nigeria. Stay in Nigeria.
Then let your partner travel to Nigeria and marry you. Your partner returns to the UK, leaving you in Nigeria. Then your partner applies for their spouse to them (assuming they meet the criteria). Then you your spouse on a spousal visa. Done.

Alternatively, shift the September plans to a future date so that the Nigeria leg of your marriage/wedding takes place after the UK version has completed.
Or
If you have already planned a September marriage & wedding . That’s fine. Go ahead. Travel back to Nigeria. Get wedded/married. BUT….. BUT that wedding/marriage is only for your ‘consumption’. That evidence is not for submission to Home office. Let the 70-day home office period run its course.

However I think that getting married in Nigeria in September will work in your favour and help substantiate your relationship. You could frame it as the wedding in Nigeria is to adhere to your customs and tradition, and also gives you the opportunity to celebrate with all your family and friends and introduce them to your fiancée while the registry wedding is to have a small celebration with those in the UK.
The church wedding certificate is different to the registry certificate, so you can provide this as further evidence to the investigation that your relationship is genuine and subsisting.

Make sure you notify Home Office of your plans to get married (church and traditional) in September.

I would suggest waiting for the HO to complete their process (they could be deemed playing a gamble with the HO)......

Submit your visa application, HO would initially reject it and simply waste their time.......

Thanks for the reply, Yes that's the plan. We would still be going with our September plan. Hopeful, we get the marraige notice sorted on October 10 (Also considering we have experience from the 1st). Then we will be looking for the next available date for the court ceremony where will receive the marriage certificate on the ceremony day thereafter i apply. Spousal Visa takes maximum 8 weeks if in the UK so will have HO do all that in November&December (or i do the Priority visa if concerned about the application time). As someone asked earlier we meet all other criteria for Spousal visa especially the finance requirement as we both earn more than 4x the present salary required.

I think you are not far from the truth with this, i really can not get my head around this, SIA is not that terribly expensive if she wants to pick up the cost of getting one.

I suggest you stay back and see this through here, you people can always travel to Nigeria after getting your spouse visa from the UK. to do the white wedding

Applying for spouse visa from the UK is cheaper compared to what it will cost you doing it from Nigeria and document verification is much much quicker and straightforward here than Nigeria.

The employer should use the Employer checking service, I believe. https://www.gov.uk/employee-immigration-employment-status

Your friend can only generate a share code if he has a UKVI and an eVisa. Not having applied for ILR myself, I don't know what a UKVI and share code will indicate when you've got 3c leave, but his ILR application, if made before his last visa expired, gives him the right to remain in the UK while his application is being processed with all the rights and conditions attached to his last visa, which also gives him the right to work. He needs to explain this to his HR people carefully (lots of them don't understand), and get them to use the Employer Checking Service to prove his current status.

In any event, I doubt he can make a case against the company even though he still has the right to work.

It's a tricky one, only the employer checking service can bail him out, if the employer checking service indicates he has a valid ILR application then he's good. But if not he can't continue in the job. I have a friend who was asked to leave his job when the employer checking service failed, meanwhile, he had a pending ILR application that was just getting to the final stage of approval, just between a concise time frame from when the employer checking failed to when he finally got his ILR approval he was asked to leave. He was only asked to return when they saw evidence of his ILR approval, meanwhile, the employer is a reputable public university.


Reason I have warned some pages back that a looming crisis is brewing next year when Brps will finally expire by December. Everyone should please endeavour to have their e-visa stuff sorted out now.

Thanks for this, yes its relevant to his situation and i will send this linnk to him.

His company claimed that they have ed HO but refused to tell him what HO said about his status.

I think this might explained why they removed all his shifts because after he sent them the letter from HO within days his shifts were removed.

I am trying to effect a correction of data (due to personal reasons & not due to marital status change) on my Nigerian port and i have done data capture.

I was directed that this rectification has to be done from Abuja and that I need to pay an istrative fee for data correction of N31,900 on the Nigerian Immigration Service Portal.

Does anyone know exactly where on the portal I can make this payment? I have searched without any luck.

It was at that point that I was told that any correction of data (e.g. name change not due to marriage, dob change etc) can only be approved from Abuja.

I was then given a small slip that stated that I have to pay N30,000 on the NIS portal for this to be processed (separate from the amount i already paid for my port application).

I have tried calling the Nigerian high commission but phone number not picked up. I live far away from London and don't want to take another trip only to ask a simple question.

Anyone with ideas of what I can do please?

They are correct. The istration fee is to be paid separately as this is going to the CG’s office in Abuja. It is only when an approval comes from Abuja you can even go ahead. The stress is alot. Even for those inside Nigeria doing this your type of data correction.
