The building is a 2 unit of 3bd apartment. I live in one and a man and his family occupy the other. The initial agreement was that we will both contribute to buy the gas for the generating set that power the building. We were both bringing almost 100k weekly...

It has been going on for some months now until last month when my neighbor said i should help him fuel the generator that he is going through financial crisis that when he bounce back he will refund me. I paid for 3 weeks for him totaling some 285k...

Then just last week, a solar installation team came to install a solar power. At first i thought it was for both apartment, but the man later told me that it is for his apartment only. He also said i can continue fueling the gen if i want

I have to ask for my money from him and he told me he doesnt have yet. This is the man that usd 3m+ to install the solar. He was even threatning me not to ever ask him again.

I reported him to the estate management, he said there is nothing as such. The agent only confirmed that we contributed to fuel the gen, but he dont know of me helping my neighbor to pay for the gas. There is no even evidence. I told them they will have to disconnect the man flat from the gen because im the only one buying the fuel. They refused, based on that is how the building was wired.


Please how do i get my money back? And i cant keep buying the fuel for the two apartment when he is enjoying the solar!! Do i get myself a personal power generating set?

Only stubbornness can get you your money back. But since no evidence, that man is clean everywhere.

Get a solar installer and remove all his s from the roof and keep them as ransom. 3 to 4 s will cover your money. You have to be very stubborn to do this.

But meanwhile, get a generator set for your apartment only or do solar too.

Op Humans can be terrible and so humans can stand by their own words honorably.
You were being kind and being a good neighbor to have listened to the man and continue to fuel the generator on your own without his own contribution.

Next time, make sure you have voice recording of any nature of agreement that has to do with funds over 30,000. Humans will always be humans.
You can still challenge him with a lawyer and evidence of previous payments of purchase and even the transaction he has been making to you if any.

That's why tenants and landlords can never reason in same way and they are hardly in good . When you see a tenant who's a landlord of some property elsewhere, his reasoning will be outstanding from other tenants.

You're sharing about a 200k responsibility weekly and you don't know you're to have a legal agreement in written form with the property lawyer for the contribution let alone the help you rendered.

If that's the case I suggest you stop fueling the generator until he settles his indebtedness to you.

Since you can cough out over 200K every month for diesel you should have no problem spending about 200K to buy a smaller 3Kva generator to power just the basic necessities in your apartment.

I can guarantee that if you do this he will come back to settle cos there is no way the current solar equipment he has will be suitable to power an industrial freezer for the cold room.

He has to either power the generator or risk loosing all the fish stored in the cold room!

Op take this advise and also install a small solar that won’t cost you more than 300-500k for your essentials only. Maybe light bulbs , tvs and fan. While you wait for him to slip up….
