with NFF usually substantive = low grade
Daninya33:
A substantive coach will be announced soon.

Cerezo will act as interim coach before a final decision is reached.
The Technical Director steps in as interim coach if the position of Head Coach is vacant.

Personally I prefer Michael Emanalo to be the Technical Director of NFF.

Hopefully Amuneke becomes coach soonest.

Spain tiki taka dazzled the world for just four years. After that dem kpo kpo dem 5-1.
Now they are just as pedestrian as they used to be before their tiki taka juju took the world by surprise.

Thank you. Let me add that Spain success within that time frame didn't just bore than on philosophies and tactic alone. Half of their squad played together in the same club so there has always been synergy between the players.

You go use 15 years learn work only for one Cape Verde team to expose your tikitaka with their Emilokan football.

If they can’t respect Osimhen who hv scored more than African legends like Weah and Eto’o in the history of Serie A, single handedly won the scudetto for Napoli after over 3 decades as well as winning the APOTY that a Nigerian player last won 1999 I wonder what else the guy hv to do to earn their respect

I have said it numerous times here, that we played our best football under Equaveon.

I said we could have easily walked over 2021 AFCON if Iwobi was not red carded against Tunisia though we were a goal down.

Equaveon was the most unlucky Nigerian coach in recent history.

He drew Ghana home and away without a single midfilder completing 180 minutes! In fact he had no single DM/AM in the 2nd half at Abuja. (All injured)!
(No Iwobi, Ndidi, Onyeka first half in Abuja, Bonke-first half Accra).

Equa and Finidi should be given time no matter what happens! Time and !

Welcome back Nwakali!

God bless Nigeria!

I hope Chelsea won't sign him and then send him on a loan journey of no return as usual.

I believe the most important aspect of football are the players then followed by tactics. Without top talented players, you will not win much regardless of your tactics. Spain dominated because of the talent at their disposal and when those set became old they suffered terrible defeats despite the same tactics, coach and istration. Pep is successful because of the constant supply of talents beyond every other team in the league.
There is a reason why top players are sold for crazy amounts.

The most important job of the football federation is to find a way to scout the best players in the country.

Very nice point but what many miss is the true picture. After the success of Pep Guardiola and Spain, there was a massive understudy of the system and overhaul of team tactics.

A lot of teams adjusted and picked ideas to boost their plays.

So why the success diminished was actually due to the superiority of the system and adoption of it by other teams.

Take talented players without the current ideas and they will be vanquished by less talented players that are sound with the tactics.

Morocco went to the last world cup and made impact. I guess they have been preparing for 15 years right.

I said domination takes long preparation and adherence to a philosophy. What Morocco had is what I term short wins.

You are not taking the time factor into consideration here. Take for instance, it took Arteta 3 seasons before Arsenal could get up and running. That is like 3 years of constant training and practising. There were also transfer windows during which he could acquire the players he wanted. Do you think these luxuries are made available to international coaches?

No transfer, no adequate training time yet you want us to keep building for 15 years. That's unrealistic. International football is short term so philosophies and whatever should be for short term. By the time a team master a particular philosophy, they would have sink into the bottom..far below the poorest teams.

What is actually unrealistic is believing our constant cut and approach will help us build into a great side.

The zigzag nature of international football even emphasizea why we need a more structured and long term approach, to improve team coherence and building.

Finally, yes we don't have the luxury of club transfer windows. However, this is where ruthless and thorough scouting comes into play. The team needs to stay fluid and we keep searching for the very best to fit their roles and philosophy.

Our rigid approach actually harms our growth.

Igbo people have a proverb, if you know this one, you don't know that one. So you master your technique and that alone will keep you dominating other teams? Omo this is some impractical idealistic tripe

It is actually proven by Spain.

Dominance is good but take what you can and fill your trophy cabinet whenever the opportunity comes because, in modern day national football, the kind of unbroken tiki taka dominance (I say this tongue in cheek) you are looking for like Spain had from 2008-2012 is hard oo. So grab what you can and get moving cos in international football you are up today, tomorrow you are in the trenches.

, history matters and our football cannot answer to your appetite. I like good football but I will never let that override historical victories cos I will not be here forever but if we win, even our posterity will glory in it.

Many of us were not born in 1980 and even 94 when Nigeria won first and second Afcon but we rejoice in those historical achievements and we equally feel the pain of historical losses like CIV 84, Maroc 88, missing out in the late 90's when we peaked and the final in 2000.

Do you know what a victory in this Afcon would have meant for young boys of 8-14 years old.

It was Afcon 94 that made me a football fan oo. Prior to that time wetin concern me with football even though I still watching Okwaraji slump in 89. But Japan 93 and Afcon 94 blew fire into my belly.

So your appetite is good but victory for the sake of history and posterity trumps everything.

Where many miss is thinking short wins are the only way to fill trophy cabinets but a long term approach actually leads to trophies too, but even more.

I often wonder why Amunike's name is mentioned anytime there's a vacancy for the SE coaching seat
As much as I love his philosophy and scouting ability, this guy has been out of job for months!

Why doesn't he get something doing, instead of waiting for the SE call that might never come?

Everytime he keeps being overlooked and him still dey there dey wait..
Is that blind faith or outright foolishness?

Finidi abeg for me
Let Amunike go get something doing, build some momentum and then apply later

As for me, philosophy and scouting is king. Over long work experience. If you don't have the philosophy, you can't impact it.

Let us select our coach based on that. That is why we keep skipping the best for the job.

Amunike remains my pick.
