I ranked a site to 2,500+ monthly visitors last year with 3 keywords . I had no idea what I was doing. But here’s the basic plan I followed:

-> Find your main keyword
-> Use @ahrefs free KG tool
-> KD of less than 20
-> Volume of > 500 (for one country)
-> 2 child keywords
-> how the math should work out:
-> 500 volume for 1 country. Triple it for worldwide search (unless your service is location dependent)
-> 500 x 3 = 1,500.
-> 2% conversion rate = 30 sales per month.
-> child keywords: Rank for one main keyword and you likely will rank for 2+ child keywords. This is the winner winner, chicken dinner (more than 80% of my traffic)

What I would do for next time:
-> choose one solid keyword! Find a gold one!
-> build your product around the keyword
-> write about the same keyword from multiple angles
-> create an hub around it
-> offer a front end and a paid product
-> everything on your site should be clickable max 3 clicks from homepage
-> bonus: launch on product hunt (even if it’s irrelevant. Relevant = better).
