Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has banned the sale and distribution of food items and farm produce in bulk from the state to other Nigerian states.
Bago announced the ban during a press briefing, stressing that the sale of food items in bulk has resulted in scarcity and food starvation within the state.

The governor said, “Trucks who come to pack or buy foodstuffs from our villagers in bulk should be halted for now. We have stopped mass purchases from our local markets, all our local governments, from now henceforth.

“Anybody found doing that, we have given some security agencies go ahead to confiscate those trucks and share the food to the people.”

This is coming amid the economic hardship Nigerians are facing.

With the fall in the value of the Naira, the cost of food items have skyrocketed across the country, thereby, causing hardship.

This is an Intelligent Decision by Niger state Governor.

Controlling the open market to prevent bulk buyers from causing scarcity for small retail buyers involves implementing various measures and strategies:

Regulatory Policies: Implement regulations to prevent hoarding and price manipulation by bulk buyers. This may include setting limits on the quantity of goods an individual or entity can purchase within a specific timeframe.

Market Monitoring: Establish mechanisms for monitoring market activities to detect irregularities such as hoarding or price gouging. This could involve regulatory bodies, market surveillance teams, or technology-driven solutions like data analytics to track market trends and detect anomalies.

Price Controls: Consider implementing price controls or price ceilings on essential food items to prevent excessive price hikes that disproportionately affect small retail buyers. However, this approach should be carefully implemented to avoid unintended consequences such as black markets or reduced supply due to unprofitability.

Supply Chain Management: Improve supply chain management to ensure efficient distribution of goods from producers to retailers. This includes addressing logistical challenges, improving infrastructure, and promoting transparency and fairness in the supply chain.

for Small Retailers: Provide and incentives for small retailers to enhance their purchasing power and competitiveness. This could include access to credit, training programs, and cooperative purchasing arrangements to leverage economies of scale.

Market Information: Facilitate access to timely and accurate market information for both bulk buyers and small retailers. This empowers market participants to make informed decisions and reduces the likelihood of sudden shortages or price spikes.

Promote Competition: Encourage competition in the market by reducing barriers to entry for new players and fostering a diverse supplier base. This can help mitigate the dominance of large bulk buyers and create a more level playing field for small retailers.

Public Awareness and Education: Raise public awareness about responsible consumption practices and the impact of hoarding on market stability. Educating consumers about their rights and responsibilities can help foster a culture of fair trade and discourage speculative behavior.

By implementing a combination of regulatory measures, market monitoring, supply chain improvements, for small retailers, and promoting competition and consumer education, authorities can better control the open market and mitigate the adverse effects of bulk buyers on small retail buyers.

First of all this is illegal

Niger state didn't not ban collection sof allocation which comes from crude lifted in akwa ibom bayelsa etc

The farm produce will be left to rot or local farmers will be left to sell under market pricing considering the massive depreciation of the naira it's going to lead to even more poverty

All these people grabbed power and are busy pocketing allocation while making illegal and unconstitutional pronouncements

That is the zoo called Nigeria for you

Baboons and monkey as Governor

Evil people as CBN printing naira uncontrollably to drive people into more poverty

All of a sudden, they printed 80 trillion Naira from thin air and shared to National assembly presidency APC contractors Thiefnuinibu group

Thieves

Another senseless policy like emilokan.

After spending a lot on farming and now they want to recoup their investments you ask them not to sell.
If they don't sell what will you do with the farm produce, will they not eventually spoil.
Produce like onions ,tomatoes etc will the governor eat them raw.

Now the Hunger Games begin.

The killings by so called 'Fulani herdsmen' was to keep people away from the farms, so that people can depend on certain people for food supplies.

Let the music begin in other states, so we can dance.

It's very easy to know that Nigerian leaders are not thinking. They are just opportunists who found themselves in office. This man wants to set farmers in his state 10 years backwards instead of seeking other means. Useless leaders who have lost touch with reality.

Every state should take food security seriously ,
Those unused land should be used for farming, your youth can not be sitting idle all days pressing phones and be expecting food to be imported at cheap price, arrest them and send them to the farm by force by fire.

Government officials suvs should be confiscated, sold and the proceeds use to buy tractors for farmers.

They're benefiting from our oil free of charge and they don't want us to buy food with our own money?

Is the We.st that cos this unity else they won't have been holding the south to his balls . Let open our border for food importation quickly.

Make I hold this my one bag of rice very well, I will never complain because I'm learning the political lesson the EBI PAWAers are teaching us.

In response can the south also unite and ban outflow of resources since their land has been used for exploration and exploitation what's beneath it?
Food whose input was bought with oil money but the owner of the oil can't even buy the food even if they manage to make some money in the system.
