A group, Igbo Women Assembly, IWA, has raised the alarm that the South-East region is recording mass exodus of Igbos to other parts of the country and overseas. The group, which raised the alarm while speaking with journalists in Umuahia, on Wednesday, said that the region was recording mass movement of people who permanently settle or establish their businesses and families away from Igbo land. The National President of IWA, Nneka Chimezie said that Igbo land could not develop with the continuing decrease in population and concentration of resources away from the region. According to her, many of those who leave the region were not even interested in coming back to their original homes or having anything to do with the Igbo language and culture. Chimezie said, “We want to ensure that our men change from importation to production. The only way of getting our people to remain in the South-East and to grow the South population is to build industries.” She also raised the alarm that the Igbo language was now at a dying stage “as many adults and children now shun the language; the language will go extinct in a few years time.” The IWA said they established schools in Lagos State where Igbo studies and cultures were exclusively learnt. She further said that her organization would collaborate with the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to revive the language and culture of the people. She begged traditional rulers, church and community leaders to in the crusade to reverse the ugly trend. https://nigerianstreet.com/2024/01/24/group-raises-alarm-over-mass-exodus-of-igbos-from-south-east/ 5 Likes 4 Shares |

I was in My maternal home in Imo state this past Christmas and the kind of houses I saw in the villages are the types you see in Banana Island and New York city . Where this Igbos guys dey see money ? Even here in Lagos, you have to be a politician close relative to build the kind of houses I saw in villages of Igbo state . The Igbos are indeed blessed people. 28 Likes 3 Shares |

Nice2023:You're not wrong and neither is she. She's just saying that the net migration is negative. You should look up the whole south East on Google satellite map, you will agree with her that despite as small as the land mass of South East is, it still has a lot of large expanse of greenery and virgin unoccupied spaces. 12 Likes 4 Shares |

Y will they not commot? Ipob dey force them 2 make mondays automatic holidays.it has been so for 3 years.those who dare come out to work are killed in broad day light. Kidnappers are having field day, kidnapping people, in d name of raising finds for Biafra. SUVs are seized for "transport" of ipob fighters, kept in the forest, and later sold. Igbos now lack courage and now ashamed to report to security agencies, cos of their known collaboration with ipob, u.g.m, ESN to kill security personnel. They are running to south states to experience freedom, made possible by our not permitting ipob to make fem

accordadoga21:So the people that build the houses are into drugs? Majority of those houses are built by businessmen or those abroad. An Ibo spare parts or chemicals dealer for example with a single shop can make a single sale that can fetch him 500k.Imagine making just 5 of such in a month,in a year you are looking at ₦30m and this is for someone with just a shop but has been lucky in business. Talkless those with multiple shops and that do importation. Granted there maybe 1 or 2 into shady deals, but the vast majority is just pure biz acumen, hardwork and that "competition" in hometowns,so they work extra hard and go the extra mile to meet up with that goal 2 Likes |

It will never end. From the beginning of time this has been our nature. Most of the tribes in southern NIgeria and the middle belt are Igbos who never went back home.
