Your architect, builder, engr needs to visit your site before any work can be Carried out on your site, that is the best practice.

Concerning the safety commission guys you talked about it’s there duties to make sure your site is safe for construction so you need document for that ..it’s around 200-250k that is the standard rate but you can talk to them
So your site and workers must follow safety compliance rules

This is NOT done online. Neither will I recommend you to do it at any of their liaison offices.

The office of the DG is at Alausa. You can walk in to apply.

There’s a documentation which details your safety plan that you need to submit. Find out how you can do this from the office.

Further information that’ll be requested from you are:
- the nearest police station to your site
- the nearest hospital
- and other important information regarding your project.

Tbh, these are very important things to do before carrying out construction on any project and Lagos State Government should be commended for this BUT this would have been more perfect if you can do it online without having to meet one Mr. ABC or Mrs. XYZ who will try to make the process difficult for you just because they want to make some money off you.

This is the reason why I recommend you go directly to the DGs office.

Aforxzy raised a valid concern yesterday but like she always do. She went awol without getting the perspective of the other side.

Have a look at the picture below.

The point where I had the caution tapes was where we were supposed to have a column in our proposed structural drawings.

While carrying out our preliminary site survey, I raised a concern that we cannot have a column at that point (not for aesthetics but safety concern).

So we redesigned the structure to have a cantilevered beam and we move to site.

During construction, I’ve personally witnessed cars hitting the scaffold at that point and we had to put caution tapes on it to alert people driving around the site premises.

As a good manager, you don’t have to wait for it to happen to understand how to prevent occurrences in your sites.


One of the thing that has helped me so far in construction is the way we learnt project management and the person who taught me.

The only things we discuss in meetings are dependencies, deliverables and challenges and we are always ready to learn from others.

Between loading and integrity testing which is more important in piling works ?
