I have an MTN 3g SIM inserted i.nto a 4g phone.but to my surprise I use to see the MTN 4g signal on my phone. My question now is can a 3g MTN SIM receive a 4g signal.

It's not possible. I think the Sim is 4g enabled sim. That's why it displayed 4g, instead of 3g

Adewale1603:The SIM is an old SIM . I had even gone for a conversion to 4g SIM like twice at mtn's office, but the queue and the amount I was asked to pay coupled with the fact that I had only few minutes to return back to work made me change my mind. 1 Like |

It's very normal.. The Phone is 4G enabled. No be by force make sim be 4G before u get 4G displayed. Once ur fone s 4G. It will display 4G. |

Check well, you must have done sim swap on your MTN sim. There is no way 3g sin will display real 4gb signal on a 4g phone. Both sim and phone must be 4g enabled before you can see 4g sigbal

zanjorrg:There's nothing to check. I practically and tactically converted the micro SIM to nano SIM with my scissors and razor blade because there was nothing like nano SIM when I bought the SIM. |

See how u just disgraced yourself, why the profiling of a certain tribe? You should be ashamed of yourself. @O.P, It must be that they did automatic conversion for you, 9mobile did this as their customers did not need to come to any service centre for any 4g upgrade; their customers just woke up to 4g displaying on their phones(for those with 4g enabled phones). I think they(the networks) do not want to loose customers so, instead of shutting down your SIM for not upgrading to 4g, they just upgraded it remotely for you

Unlimitk: I this because I also have my old 3g sim and I put it in my 4g Samsung phone but it's still showing 3g though it's quite fast too. |

Natbrowny:wrong. The sim has to be 4g enabled before it could display 4g on the phone and even the environment or location you are must have availability of 4g before it could display, else it would throttle down to 3g, and it will display it out on the phone aswell |

Incredible128: This is very true. My 9 mobile sim that I got in 2014 suddenly started displaying 4g on my phone and the connection speed is 4g-like. |
