Enugu Residents Shun Governor Mbah’s Directive On Ban On Sit-At-Home; Economic, Other Activities Grounded

Mbah on Saturday threatened to close schools, markets and motor parks and businesses that failed to open for business or academic activities on Monday.

Residents of Enugu city, the Enugu State capital, southeast Nigeria and its environs have reinforced the Monday sit-at-home despite the state government's ban on the 'illegal sit-at-home'.

SaharaReporters had reported that Governor Peter Mbah on Saturday threatened to close schools, markets and motor parks and businesses that failed to open for business or academic activities on Monday, June 5, 2023, and thereafter.

The governor had in a public service announcement on Saturday stated that the directive followed his recent ban/cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home exercise in all nooks and crannies of the state, starting from Monday, June 5, 2023.

Mbah had said: "This is to inform all schools, markets, retail outlets, hospitals, transporters, malls and the general of the public that, in view of the recent ban/cancellation of Mondays' sit-at-home by the Government of Enugu State, in all nooks and crannies of the state, they have been directed to go about their normal businesses and activities every day of the week, including Mondays.

"The above-mentioned bodies and others alike are required to comply with the directive as adequate security measures have been taken to guarantee their safety.

of the government's task force will be moving around to monitor compliance. Any market, transport outlet, or any other body that fails to open for business risks being shut down immediately."

However, SaharaReporters which monitored the compliance level on Monday morning observed that residents instead reenforced the sit-at-home exercise.

For instance, visits to Holy Ghost, Old Park, Garrik, Emene, Eke-Obinagu, Abakpa and Zik Avenue showed that unlike previous Mondays in recent months when some people came out to open their businesses early; this time, roads were totally deserted.

Schools within the city centre and on the outskirts of the state capital were shut while filling stations were also closed. At the Holy Ghost area where there are lots of motor parks, the story was the same. All transport companies in the area totally their businesses. At Old Orie Emene, commuters deserted the roads. Also, Enugu-Abakaliki Road which is almost ever busy, was deserted. For 30 minutes, SaharaReporters observed that no single vehicle ed the road.

However, there were a few buses and tricycle operators on roads inside communities but there were no engers to carry. Some private vehicles were also seen plying the roads.

It's obvious the south east people are enjoying this sit at home

They like it . I was in Owerri month ago and I experienced this sit at home first hand . During the morning of Monday, you see the youths sitted outside in large numbers drinking and catching fun.

They just like it if you ask me

Once the terrorist government obey the court order , that discharged and acquitted him, the sit at home will die a natural death.... grin grin

Emeka knows the value of life. Do you? Which reasonable father will take his kids to school when police can't protect the kids from terrorists. Emeka knows better than you.

Even the banks can't risk an attack on their facilities.

Sit at home is on because of no confidence in Nigeria police.

Sit at home has come to stay in SE.

It's a sad truth today that in the SE, Ipob has more power than government.

What do you guys get from spreading fake news

If the Igbos understands that there is a serious media war against them, they would have solved their problems by half

The governor is very stupid.

The worst political calculation he would ever make.
He shouldn't have meddled in IPOB's sit at home affairs seeing that it pitched Soludo Vs the people in neighboring Anambra.

And once he becomes infamous as a consequence of Ndi Enugu's disregard for his sit @ home cancellation, coupled with his NYSC certificate saga as well as the election petition tribunal challenging his win....Mbah might have set up himself for political fall without knowing it

Why are you trying to paint it as something honourable?

Isn't it because they're scared of being killeddd by Terrorist Ipob hence they were forced to sit at home.

You should be ashamed not making it seem it's a norm

The governor and the police will not be there to save anybody from attacks by the miscreants.

Bad as the sit-at-home is, nobody wants to risk his/her life going against it.

No confidence in the authorities!

If you like, insinuates what ever to suit your unity begging narrative, for all we care..

The fact remained that, SE people are willingly sitting at home in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu's illegal incarceration by your terrorist government... They're not being forced by anyone..

Chronic unity begging head slamming terrorist...

Lol, you are saying it as if it's the governor they are doing?

Whether they sit at home or not the man would get his allocation to loot.

Isn't it funny that same people complaining of security as excuse for staying under the bed where bold enough to dare ipob no erection order for pitobi

Let them even catch ekpa so that Tuesday sit at home would be added

but they risked their life for pitobi to vote against ipob directive of no erection which was supposed to be ipob strongest statement yet

The election was a one off event.

And even at that, we saw police and Army chiefs issue statements to ensure people of their security.

We saw military tanks deployed to the streets and villages of the east and elsewhere in the country.

What security structure has Mbah put in place to reassure the people of their security before issuing his dumb directives?

Or when nefarious elements kills anyone, you will hear him issuing statements that “the government sympathizes with victims and assure that perpetrators will be brought to book”. Meanwhile lives are gone.

Is that how a human being with brains in his head operates?
No the election was not a one off event, right from the campaigns which ipob was trying to stop igbos defiled them yet there was no extra security

Mbah doesn't need to put anything in place, he should just enjoy himself and leave enugu to their problems

Is it the same military that you people have been crying is a threat to Igbo and should leave SE that was now reassuring your people against the same ipob you kept saying are your brothers

He has already fallen.

How can he wake up and issue directive to Enugu people that they should put their live in danger? Because he’s governor? He’s very stupid.

Like you said, he should have taken a cue from the pushback that Soludo got when he tried to apply same approach when he took office in Anambra.

The best thing Mbah would have done would have been to keep quiet and face governance for now and stay away from IPOB talks.

Now he has made IPOB see him as enemy; he has challenged IPOB to a fight and you know how those things end.

Mbah is a dunce.
