Some people arguing like total a-holes on this thread, a simple googling of Nigeria's topography, relief and drainage map would have given a clue to why parts of these states in the Niger Delta region are flooded when excess water is released from a dam in Cameroun

On a serious note... Prior to the flood, it was not a mansion but moment of the flood, it can be called a mansion. A mansion is a building OR home with everything a house must have, including a swimming pool etc. |

BanevsJoker: Why would you condemn what the guy wrote as nonsense ... then write this? What you wrote is foolishness... and you have confirmed it is so. In your own words ... it was expected that water would at times be released from the Cameroonian Dam . To avoid flooding in Nigeria ... a dam was to be built in Adamawa... but it was not . This was since early 1980's. Now my question to you .... didn't the town planners know this? ... and that as long as the dam was not built Lekki would be a flood zone whenever water is released? Isn't it foolish to permit building of houses ... mansions in a flood zone? Don't you think the town planners should've waited until the dam was built to permit building in the area? At times we are the architects of our own disasters ... this is one such time... and we should recognize instead of pointing fingers elsewhere. We see the same in California almost every year ... wealthy people being permitted to build mansions in the once off limit Fire Belt .... and every year fire rages through and consume their homes they are shocked. A foolish man builds his house upon the sand. 3 Likes 1 Share |

MICHEALADEX: You just opened your mouth waaaaah without making any sense. You are actually the real and big mu²(expand it). Nigerian government had an agreement with Cameroonian government to construct a dam that will serve as a recieving dam whenever they(Cameroon) open their dam but Nigeria's government have not completed the construction till today. This happens yearly and yet they haven't done anything to it. 2 Likes |

Nlanalyst: The South-east is landlocked just Like the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State. Are some Igbo speaking part of Delta Like Aboh, Okpai, oko etc not affected by the flood? In your attempt to sound sound woke, you did nothing other than to expose your crass ignorance. All your education didn't make you to know that Anambra state has riverine areas along the River Niger, and that the famous Anambra river basin which is a tributary of the River Niger lies within the state. Your education didn't expose you to the knowledge that Kogi state, which so far, is the most affected by the flood has a boundary With the Northern part of Anambra, and that along that axis, there is a Long stretch of Marshy and swampy lands, whose physical features are similar to what we have in Bayelsa and riverine parts of Delta and Rivers States. That particular place is where this community on the camera, Anam is located. You further exposed your ignorance about the geography of the country by questioning why the River Benue does not cause flood in Akwaibom and Calabar. For real? Are you so dumb not to know that River Benue does not through Akwaibom and Calabar? FYI, River Benue enters Nigeria through Adamawa, and flows through Taraba, Gombe, Plateau ,Nasarawa, and finally meets the River Niger at Lokoja, Kogi state. Having accumulated the water from River Benue, Niger now flows southwards from Lokoja to Anambra (where Anambra River basin and Anam are lactated), Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states. All these states are affected by the flood. Stop displaying your ignorance on a public forum 8 Likes |

dandollaz:He has a point! There’s no proper town planning in most of the cities in Nigeria. The runoff from those closely packed high rise residential buildings are the number one cause of erosion…the poorly planned drainages are are perennial culprit in flooding. This particular issue in the OP is different but it doesn’t invalidate his point. 1 Like |

Nlanalyst:he has given you the fact of the situation. The cause is due to Nigerian Failure to build a ing dam to prevent flooding. But as usual, just like every other abandoned projects since the 70s, money was stolen and nobody cares. Very pathetic situation. The dam supposed generate electricity as well but you know what, all money has been embezzled since the 70s 80s. 2 Likes |

Nlanalyst: Why you dey fall your hand like this? ![]() Proper planning and good drainage is required for flood control, however, for this particular case the cause of flooding was the absence of a dam. The question you should have asked is it possible for places without proper drainage to get flooded if Nigeria had built the purported dam and practice controlled flooding in an occasion like this? I am sure the guy you quoted would have come up with an answer that might warrant the re-enforcement of your initial position. Use your head ![]() 1 Like |
