I have been asking myself this question for so many years now.

Why has Nigeria not solved its power problem of over 62years with Nuclear energy like most countries have done?

It might shock you to know that South Africa has an operating nuclear power plant, which has been producing power since 1984. The Koeberg Power Station is about 30km northwest of Cape Town and has two units of 900MW capacity PWR reactors each.

Nigeria as the giant of Africa should embrace this technology at least to deliver electricity to its over 200Million inhabitants.

The metamorphosis of NEPA to PHCN, BEDC have all failed us.

If Nigerians cannot maintain the existing Petrol refineries we have, is it a Nuclear power plant you want them to maintain?
That is a call for a continental disaster

Nuclear plants are too dangerous

What if Boko Haram or IPOB decided to Bomb them?

The fall out would affect the entire region

How many people have already died in Nigeria at the hands of Boko Haram, IPOB, Bandits and UGM
How is South Africa different from Nigeria?

The government wants to have 2 two built in kogi and Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom ed a law banning it. I like the idea of a salt thorium reactor myself.

Nuclear Plants can produce Radiation that kills on the Scale Of Nuclear Bombs if mismanaged

God forbid

Nigeria has enough gas. Remove power generation, transmission and distribution from the exclusive list.

We should do something we can manage because we have a poor maintenance culture
GardenOfGod(m): 5:29pm On Aug 23, 2022
A typical Nigerian reasoning.
Meaning we should not drive cars because of accidents... grin grin

This is FALSE.

Nuclear power plants are not atomic weapons.

They are very safe.

Its major challenge is that it takes time to build and expensive too.

It is the best considering our desperate need of energy but the way our economy is being handled nuclear power too big for it. Not even China will take the risk of such huge liability.

Maintaining the small hydro we have is like an ss3 further maths test placed in front of a primary 4 pupil to try Nigerian government.

Nuclear will be like teaching a 2 year old to pronounce metamorphosis.

Bro we are not even utilizing our water, wind and sun as it should be. Nuclear plants to me would just be to brag because there are other cheaper means we haven't utilized properly.

Its like u didnt know?

when Nigerian govt talked about nuclear power, people kicked against it that it is very dangerous and all.
It was massively rejected by the masses, most people likened it to hiroshima
johannu(m): 10:22pm On Aug 23, 2022
To have a nuclear power plant, we have to know exactly what we are doing. But we know ourselves. We are known for not doing things properly. Ordinary refineries, we cannot maintain. A place like Kuje Prison, no CCTV. You want to link your SIM card, NIMC server is down every now and again. At a busy traffic junction, traffic lights are not working, and so on, and so forth. It would be calamitous to have a nuclear power plant and do things the Nigerian way.
