Hello gurus; I changed my toyota camry 05 gear oil yesterday after more than a year of usage without issues. After about 20 minutes drive this morning it suddenly stopped changing even when I revved the car to 4k rpm. What could be wrong and is the gear gone? Its a 13 pin gear and I used the recommended t4 oil inscribed on the oil stick.

2. Did you buy this TIV yourself?
3. Where did you buy the TIV? From a reputable seller?
4. Did your mechanic open your sump?
5. Did he change or wash filter?
6. Were his hands clean when he installed the filter?
7. Was the container used in pouring the TIV free from dirt?
8. How did you gauge the oil after the service?
9. Have you gauged the oil today?

1) At his shop and I was there.
2) No he bought it at a popular auto parts market in Ilorin (agaka). I don’t the shop precisely I only gave him money to buy.
4) He opened the sump.
5) He washed the filter
6) I don’t think so - kazeems are usually dirty.
7) Not sure
He switched the on, engaged the gear and checked it

9) I checked this morning and the oil level was optimum

Hmmmm. My guess is that he has contaminated the gear box with dirty hands and probably dirt find its way into the gear box

When I changed my oil last year April, I entered under the vehicle with the mechanic and discover sand entered the sump when he was trying to place it. I had to remove the sump, buy petrol to wash his hand and the sump allover

This might have contaminated the valve body.

a gear specialist needs to remove and wash the valve body thoroughly to remove all sand and particles. New original oil will be used to fill in the gear box. But scan before any more work to be done. You may be lucky

Update: so I had to leave the car with mech when the gear broke down in the morning cause I had work to go to. I called him later in the day and he said gear started engaging back on its own. Infact, he said the moment I handed over the car to him and left it worked perfectly till he got to his shop; now I just picked up the car and its working right again - I haven’t scanned it yet but what can I do to avoid this happening again?

Update: so I had to leave the car with mech when the gear broke down in the morning cause I had work to go to. I called him later in the day and he said gear started engaging back on its own. Infact, he said the moment I handed over the car to him and left it worked perfectly till he got to his shop; now I just picked up the car and its working right again - I haven’t scanned it yet but what can I do to avoid this happening again?

Try and scan the car. There is nothing more to do for now

how much did u buy d tiv oil,how many litres was introduced into d gearbox..in d morning d oil shd be at d low part of dip stick,n high when engine is hot.make sure ur mechanic didnt overfil ur gearbox.....

I have not service my gear since I bought ma car..... A year and few weeks now..... Now I'm scared

And wassup with people saying don't service gear but always service engine....

M I going to use same gear oil for 2-3 years because there's no fault..... Must there be fault to change oil?

No cause for panic. This recently happened to me after Changing my gear oil. It corrected itself later

1 1 litre and 1 4 litre can = 18k

Whatever got stuck in the solenoid may have been dislodged.
There is nothing wrong in servicing transmissions as long as procedure is followed, right fluids are used and it's done in a clean environment.

5 litres is too much.....u measure wot comes out n replace with same quantity......Excess transmission fluid will cause high pressure in the system.....i brgt 4 litres in 2019 to change mine,d kazeem just poured everytin,i refused ask him to leak out some based on d dipstick measurement.....d 4 litres was even above d hot line on d deep stick on cold check...

Corolla 08

Corrola 08 is not as sensitive as 13pin gearbox. So no fear
