CBDCs around the world are clearly referred to as digital currency, likewise crypto currencies. However, the rule remains that CBDCs are not cryptocurrencies. It’s obvious that both are digital, and not the same. But the case of eNaira, Nigeria’s first digital currency running on a crypto blockchain is challenging this law.

Nigeria’s digital currency which was a project developed in partnership with Bitt Inc. runs on a Blockchain, just like many other CBDCs. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) owned Dcash utilizes the blockchain. Bhutan’s digital Ngultrum will run on a blockchain too.

So the question is where do we put the likes of eNaira and also digital Ngultrum ?

It is no longer news that, the Central Bank of Nigeria is on the verge of launching the country’s digital currency. The CBDC tag named “eNaira” was to be introduced on October 1; however it was moved from the date which coincides with Nigeria’s Independence, to allow for the “national rededication to the collective dream of One Nigeria.” No new date has been announced.

Nonetheless, the eNaira being a new thing has left many citizens of the country skeptical about it. How does it run? Is it safe? These are amongst the several question Nigerians are looking out for answers. For this reason, this article is dedicated to tell you all you should know about the digital currency and how to position yourself to take advantage of the launch.

If you had invested N160, 000($1000) into Bitcoin in 2011, considering the Naira to Dollar Exchange rate as at then. You'd get 71.89 Bitcoins.

With one BTC selling for over $50, 000, the investment is now worth $3,594,500 (N1,905,085,000 in Naira) . That's over 359, 400 % Return on Investment In USD (equivalent to 1,190,678% ROI in Naira) !

WHY CRYPTO IS INEVITABLE

Crypto Currency to some people is another form of Ponzi. While to some others, it’s more or less a bubble. Irrespective of how bad you view them, this article is for you.
Crypto Currency is a form of digital asset that is decentralized without any form of Government control or central authorities. The word ‘crypto’ was derived from the encryption technique used to secure the network through a ledger called the ‘Blockchain’. This ledger is responsible for the storage of transactional data which is duplicated across disparate network of computers thus providing Integrity in the Blockchain.

The first crypto currency to be created is Bitcoin, which was invented by an anonymous person (or group) named Satoshi Nakamoto. After this various other crypto currency popularly called Altcoins came to life. Most notable are Ether, XRP, Binance coin and so on.
This new ‘Scam’ as some financial analysts call it, is here to stay. Crypto Currency was created to bridge the gap of payments across the globe and be free from government interference or central control. They also wanted it to be an electronic cash system with no trusted 3rd party. However its popularity has caused a lot of technocrats to be attracted toward acquiring it and adopting the Blockchain technology to solve various real life solutions.

Innovations like DEFI crypto currencies and faster transactions are amongst the notable features some crypto currency now offer. DEFI means ‘Decentralized finance’ which is a system by which financial products become available on a public decentralized blockchain network, making them open to anyone to use, rather than going through middlemen like banks or brokerages.
Moreover, Crypto currencies like Bitcoin cash and XRP are leading the chart towards attaining a payment system which is faster and most importantly cheaper when compared to what any existing Bank can offer. Nano and Iota are even tilting toward feeless transfers, irrespective of where and the time that transaction is made.

It is very understandable for people to be skeptical about new innovations. But it will be unwise not to at the very least research about one that seem to be seeing the light of the day, especially when experts and intellectuals back it. Don’t let this opportunity slip away. You are still early!

You lose cash in crypto transactions too.

Just the fee is what is given out. It is convenient compared to Bank transfer charges.
You get paid across the globe and get your cash in naira at a higher dollar rate. While Bank rates are way lower.

WHY YOU NEED CRYPTO

Like the internet, Bitcoin is here to stay. In fact, other crypto currencies as well. It is normal for disruptive innovations to face back lashes from critics. So the current happenings involving bans and restrictions won’t last.

Bitcoin was created to enable a permission-less and decentralized payment system. Irrespective of the time or location, you can make or receive payments, from/to anywhere with very less fees. You don’t not also need any intermediary when transacting.

Right now, Crypto currencies has moved from its initial function to solving real life issues. Banks are now incorporating crypto currencies and its technology into their systems. For an instance; a major bank in the United Arab Emirate partnered with Ripplenet (a crypto currency company) to aid cross border transactions. And in faraway , Frankfurt Airport began using Iota’s tangle network, for Covid-19 ‘vaccination port’ verification.

With these two examples cited, crypto currency is proving itself to be inevitable. Even Central banks are aware of it. Godwin Emefiele, Nigeria’s Central bank Governor stated that we will be having a digitalized Naira by the year end. The Israeli central bank too, is planning on rolling out theirs too.

It is a fact that few years from now, we will have a lot more people use crypto currencies on a daily basis. You can as well enable your business to start accepting it. Instead of receiving dollar payments via bank and losing cash in processing it, you could switch to crypto. The earlier you do the better.

This should be a lesson for all of us. We should be mindful of the actions we take or imply at every point in time so they don't come to hunt us in the future.
Just at the start of the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, a director was forced to resign over racist remarks in a joke he made about 20 years ago. I hope we all learn.

I have said it before and I will say it again:- Very soon anger will unite the poor people of the North to revolt against the rich and elites in the North.

Not only the north, but every part of the country. What it takes is just a generation of enlightened youths that are ready to champion the cause of able governance. Education plays a critical role in the development of every society. Once the society is enlightened, our leaders will have to sit up.
