Turns out Mr president perceived the bill to be vague. Perhaps if the bill had been signed it to law, God knows the role ambiguity social workers would be facing now. I don't know if there is any member of NASOW is here, if by chance a NASOW member is reading this, plz you people should make it conspicuous in your next bill that those who did 6month diploma in social work are not upto the professional standards required for the practice compared to those who have BSc and MSc in social work. We can't have some random people who went through 6months theoretical training to be competing with those who did 4years theoretical and practical training. Thanks

Okay nice thread. Just a quick question though Which one is paramount or should I say is more important between the general social work core values and the agency's code of ethics? I mean as an employee under an agency, which should you take as your practice guide especially when their is a conflict between the agency's code of ethics and the general social work practice |

Omo Iya mi (brethren) let me be honest with you. If you really want to experience Nigeria in it's true form, Lagos is you best option, don't even goto ibadan because it's not as lively as Lagos, although it's rich in cultural heritage and relatively cheap. If you want to settle in Lagos, I suggest you stay at ebute meta, ikeja axis, surule, my best recommendation is gbagada area. (no go Lagos Island oooo) Second advice: don't act foreign, try to master Nigerian accent ( one or two nollywood movies should help you learn that). Learning pidgin will do you great help because almost every tribe understand our pidgin English. But since you will be staying in Lagos, Yoruba language will come in handy in variety of ways atleast 80% of igbo people that I know can can speak or understand Yoruba (some even speak it better than the real Yorubas) Third advice: nwanne (brother), don't flash your dollars publicly o, especially in a crowded area. I suggest you goto yaba (bureau de change) or any Nigerian bank to change your dollar to Naira soon as you get here. Fourth: Try to dress like a Nigerian when you get here. Your appearance will make you feel among and others will perceive you to be a regular person who already knows the status quo. In the short run, they won't bill you much when selling stuffs to you cus they will think you know alot already. Lastly: if you want to make friends with any Nigerian lady/guy, be sure that they are okay on their own. Because most of the people who would want to befriend you will do that just to see what you can offer them. Although there are good average Nigerians who don't care about befriending a foreigner to get something from them. All they wanna do is help you catch fun and blend you in. Fun tips -Visit our national stadium at surulere every Saturday (the stadium is not really great, but the athletes are) - There is a particular bar under the bridge at funsho Williams Avenue, that's place is lively too - Ikeja mall is also a cool place to visit - just so you find your way to ibadan, plz visit university of ibadan zoo and help me to greet imade ( an old gorilla) - if you want to club, goto Lagos Island but don't get drunk, our drinks here are very strong. Infact don't even near orijin bitters at all Oh and don't forget to try these foods before leaving... You don't chew them, you swallow them ni o, or else they get sticky on your teeth Amala + gbegiri and ewedu soup Pounded yam + efor riro soup Yellow eba + egunsi mixed with ogbonlor soup Moi Moi and Eko Agohin beans + soft white bread Nigerian jellof rice .... 6 Likes |
