There is something called the internet...you know, the thing that enables nigerian doctors to apply for UK jobs once plab is done...from Nigeria...

It's the truth. Other professions...Canadian qualifications first, or Canadians first.

Nah, searching for jobs online and being there are two different realities, they're not the same... if you like apply for 1k jobs this week, by next week they will recycle the same jobs back again so in reality applying over the internet in some cases is not the true test of jobs in Canada

Hmmm, this is the sad reality about moving to the western world for married couples, fortunately and unfortunately, it's a two-edged sword it can either profit or destroy the home

A lot of people want to JAPA without focusing on the reality of what the western world looks like, the harsh reality about the Western world is it will stretch you and drain you as a person, now you're still coping as a person talk less of when you're married, it will stretch your marriage by a mile, from things like when both are looking to secure jobs, how do you monitor the kids and schooling, who ensures when the kids are back from school who do they meet, how do you handle the bills when they come, when one party is not working how do you resolve that part to prevent the home front from suffering, who handles what, household chores who does it, so many questions full ground

Now, another reality that most people don't seem to understand is western world is driven by blue collar jobs, YES, a bit of white collar does but more of blue collar and if in doubt, just take a look at the service sector, hospitality, food, transportation etc. Hence the reason why their economy never sleeps, they're working 24/7 to ensure services are up and running, unfortunately our economy in Nigeria partially run a similar model but not enough, hence why our economy is smaller, we go talk about this one another day grin grin

When you migrate as a PR to Canada for example, you 're applying and getting selected from the pool as a professional not as an unskilled person, which is what no one is ever told, because our system back home is roaming round white collar jobs, so we believe when we get to Canada then it must be office job and you have to be on the same level as you left Nigeria, this is where people get it wrong

Lara and Tunde should have sat down to discuss the prospect of moving abroad, they should have prepared their minds for the journey ahead, simulate all the scenarios and even the worst outcome for their journey, this way they would have been mentally prepared for it..
Once you zero your mind that omo, we fit no get job wey we dey expect or suit us between 3- 6 months period , then they should have analyzed the risk and mitigate it, how do you mitigate such , 1. either you must have enough money to pull you through until you get a job or 2. one person stays back in 9ja to work (never resign your job because say visa don land) and the other in Canada, even this number 2 get as e be but it's an option

Then, if option 1 is what you decide to go for, then when you land cut your coat according to your material, no go follow people wey dey here to drag, some people have good investment back home to fall back on if things go south or some people have good jobs here, every one's story can never be the same, just no do yourself, as per job levels well anything you can lay your hand on like Lara said, Tunde should have tried one at least, e for even show concern to hin wife but he left her all alone to carry the load which is wickedness even though he was job hunting but there are multiple ways to hit a target all he had to do was at least pick up any job then he should rigorously start looking for another one while he was on the first

All you need for your big break into the Canadian job market or professional is your ability to pick something first understand their work culture and ethics which they subtly call "Canadian Experience", don't get it wrong some people are lucky enough to get the professional jobs but the probability is like 1 out of 5k or more, Tunde should have continued to work while he was seeking professional job. For those saying you must have a Canadian degree to get a job, I kinda of disagree with this, what if you don't have the financial capacity for it?? Even to get student loan no be beans

Both parties must constantly keep the communication lines open between them and always looking out for the interest of each other, if not na problem. Well there are plenty single married men and single married women + also single ladies around due to many factors, so when na why Tunde fit get company in no time, but he was a stupid guy sha because on top say wife dey work and give you money to settle rent the werey was spending the money, at least to make him look responsible but he decided to be unfortunate

There are so many things to write but the experience you want to get in the Western world depends on what you set out with, they're families who moving on with life and no noise about it, it's also about maturity, understanding, comprising, sacrifice, once both parties understand this part then there won't be problem

Finally, wahala no dey finish for everywhere and if you deiced to move to the western world, always ask yourself the questions, am I mentally stable for the stress, physically, mentally, financially etc.? If you're now married, you have to incorporate your wife and kids into the equation because everybody get hin own emotions, talk plenty on top this matter .. Peace jare and Mr. Tunde and mend your ways

cheesy

You will be surprised if it was not his idea.

Forget. If you want to japa, check if the jobs are avaialble. Looks like tunde and lara did not check if there were jobs that fit them over there.

Seriously, as i learned ages ago...migrating to Canada only works for students and nurses. Doctors self no get chance like that.

This your second paragraph is very sha, how will you know if there are available jobs in Canada, when you are not there?

Also your third paragraph about only students and nurses getting a job is actually not true, depending on the profession you are opting for different

Data analytics is very saturated at the moment as the supply of skilled workers is 2X higher than the demand, hence why.

It depends on the side of the glass you are looking at the cup, it could be half full or half empty, when you are in the field you will understand that getting a job as a Data Analyst is beyond beautiful dashboards, scripting or creating pipelines. There are other fundamental components a hiring manager looks at during interviews, no one in all has mentioned anything around developing soft skills and the funny thing is without having soft skills even the best programmer will struggle in a job.

Another angle is data security, like I stated on another reply, there are parts of the data ecosystem that is not always talked about in 2-3 days data camps, data security, data architecture, the @adaperry25 need to go beyond what was thought in the class to latch on to other areas of data ecosystem, this way when interviewing with any manager he see a detailed professional even with little experience, but when the person is focused on visualization and coding as being suggested, hmmmmmm Lord have mercy cool

Thanks dearly, God bless you.

Pls, where do you think I can start in the world of tech as a novice?

octavian:

See it's always good to compare and contrast on views or opinions from people but you need to be careful otherwise you get overwhelmed by people's ideologies. The thing you must first understand about your decision or journey into IT is remove he mindset of money making, secondly always look for solution in any situation, rather look for complicated problems and how you can solve them, thirdly you must be someone with a very good abstract thinking, solution creation mindset...

When you have analyzed all, I said in the last paragraph then, start thinking of what area you think is best fit for you in the IT world. For Example, if you decide you want to be a full stack developer, you must understand logic, processes, flow chart etc. Do you have all these in place? if NO, do you want to still become a developer, then you must develop these hard skills along the line or you move into another line. So, in all you must have options and be flexible to switch until you get to where you're very comfortable

Read this bit and start from there, Tech involves a lot of critical thinking and strategy

thank you for your kind reply. I understand you, but oftentimes in decision making, what you think is best might not be because you're limited in information. is Data Analytics "Tech"?

"Proper I.T." has a high barrier for entry and steep learning curve. The real problem is the typical naija herd syndrome, "tech tech tech" so every one wants a piece of the pie without putting in so much work. So you have millions of product managers, data analysts, ui/ux people.

Database nko? Networking? Infrastructure? Cybersecurity? Architecture nko? Development / Software Engineering?

You have not stepped into I.T. yet my brother.

This is interesting to hear, so what's IT proper? A lot of people keep getting things mixed or upside down, information technology is as wide as Engineering but there are numerous fields within IT, all the subset listed up there are proper IT, you decide your path into the area then run with it, what Nigerians consider tech this day is programming abi na coding grin grin , and unfortunately everyone believes that is the only field that is lucrative .

Now, Data Analytics is proper IT because it involves scripting and writing queries in SQL, etc... PBI has its own language to write measures, see there's no one area of IT that doesn't have a technical bit, stop looking at it from the lens of MS Excel only

You lied.

Tech job is almost entirely on merit

You want to recruit a mediocre who will expose your entire data via incompetence ?

If you are worth your salt, there are plenty jobs out there. I laugh when people talk about AI when they do not even understand how it works . AI is a platform that could be leveraged on.

Honestly, a lot of people still don't understand the concept of AI, they believe AI will just viam replace everyone that has been working on a project for a company, grin grin , what if there's no proper documentation of code, where AI wan start to dissect the project from? or it will just pick the code base and start spinning nonsense grin grin, will it be intelligent enough to know when to merge codes to push for deployment, when an issue occurs after deployment how does it roll back, then make changes before pushing again, so many questions are hanging around AI that people don't know,

IT guys are struggling to get in these days even in advanced countries. It's a global trend

Don't mind most of these guys, they rely on ear say without confirming the real issue. They also believe, getting into tech is like transferring from Nigeria to let's Canada with the same years of experience, not knowing that one thing that most managers check is whether you have their country experience, if you are a good team player, how transferable is your claimed skillset to their environment. How do you handle scenarios as an employee, so many factors

Does Nigeria really have a viable tech sector, or is it just people in tech-inscribed T-shirts with laptops hopping from one remote work hub to the next? I mean, our tech industry is basically a glorified game of "brilliant minds" with Wi-Fi.

When we're actually ready for a real tech industry, we'll be calling on the government to build a proper industrialised environment for real tech companies - think mobile phone manufacturers, satellite companies, robot factories - basically, places with actual addresses, not just free Wi-Fi and coffee.

How can we talk about a tech industry when we still import ordinary POS machines? What is you people's idea of tech? Free WiFi, website design, coding, and crypto? Walai, we are not ready.

As always, we always want to jump the process. How can we talk about modern day tech without proper industrialisation? After learning to code, what next? Look around you, apart from banks, who your coding help? Schools still struggling to pay minimum wage or market women??

God bless you for this piece @acidosis, now I will add a couple of things
1. There's a technical and non-technical side of Tech, which do you want to focus on? For those saying AI will replace most jobs in Tech, it's a 50 / 50 thing, now let's take in FINTECH, a PO or BA needs to engage Dev Team on continuous product for improvement and if they run an Agile method, daily standup meeting, sprint planning, sprint retrospective etc. In all these cycles, I can tell you that there will always be conflict, either among the team or with PO, AI is not or never intelligent enough to manage, handle and resolve Conflict resolution, no AI system has been built with that level of intelligence, so AI cannot replace things like Conflict resolution, emotional intelligence in workplace etc

2. @adaperry25, you shouldn't have quitted your job without having another one in place, however that ship has sailed no it's the way forward that matters, since you have learnt Data Analytics which itself is an act of visualization of data in a presentable aesthetic way that breaks information down to stakeholders, now ask yourself what platforms do you use or have learnt? most organizations use Power BI, how good are you creating dashboards to tell your stories? Do you have personal projects you can reference on your CV? Also don't limit yourself to one platform, learn ETL, ELT, understand the different concepts of Data Lake, Data Warehousing, Data mart, be able to run through Data Management, security, Data Architecture

3. When you understand that Data Analytics is beyond using python, or Tableau or PBI then you need to understand another important bit which is *data security*, no organization plays with it, how do you secure published dataset from getting into wrong hands, each platform has a way of securing it, I know small grin Power BI so I can tell you one way to prevent unauthorized access to any published report is using Workspaces. How you connect to multiple data sources without, if need be, without eroding the DB, or getting hacked, these are some key components you can also incorporate into your CV. Once you do these, it shows any hiring manager that even at entry level, you understand security, visualization, ETL etc.

4. Then for now, I will implore you to stop looking for remote work, rather focus on Nigeria market first, when you get into any organization, get a foothold of the profession, see at the entry level part money no dey oooo, but gain the experience, when you have gained enough experience you can march on to any level you want in the field... Then you see all the people telling you to learn Python, grin it's a good thing to learn but please don't focus so much energy on coding there are other aspects that a hiring manager wants to see and need you to understand on the job

5. Don't give up, keep on applying keep on applying, keep on preparing yourself for interviews, pick up your experience of what went wrong in a previous interview then use it as a lesson learnt in subsequent one., slowly but surely you will get there

LONG POST ALEEEERRRRRRT!!!

I heard about EE in 2017 when my only sis was processing hers but i wasnt interested because it seemed like US lottery to me. Infact, i went with her and the kids for their medicals, we spent the whole day at the hospital. wetin our eyes see ehn, I was angry and stressed because i no know wetin be my own.

In 2018, their application was approved and i had to hasten my wedding so she could attend before they left.

Fast forward to 2019 after my brother also submitted his application, i started considering relocating (hubby was still the 'pro Nigeria person') and found this great thread where I gathered and still gathering lots of information for the journey. i dey sleep and wake on NL then ..and the PPR stories dey sweet me ehn... lol...

We decided hubby will be the PA for more points. We started his evaluation with WES which took 5 months of back and forth between WES and Unilag (lemme not even start with this gist). I sat for IELTS in August so as to ginger him and got LRWS 8,8.5,6.5,7 with less than 2 weeks of practice. Baba no gree write, kept postponing until December 2019, he had 7.5,5.5,6.5,8.
Shortly after, COVID started,then lockdown!
He sat for another test in December 2020 after much persuasion and had 8,5.5,7,7
At this point, I had to also evaluate my BSc to add more points (took a month for my school to send electronically and 10 days for WES to evaluate and get the report).

We immediately ed for another test in January 2021 and he got 8,6,7,7. I was sad but happy the result is enough to enter the pool. CRS was still low (405 for both of us) and we decided i become the PA but i had to do additional certificate to add to my BSc. I made a lot of research and eventually settled for a PGD.
I was still dragging on applying for the PGD when my sis sent the link for NB information session to me. At that time, i didnt know its relevance and was reluctant to . We both created a separate profile, entered the pool and ed for the session after getting hubby's IELTS TRF. I made a mistake while ing for myself, i couldn't go back or continue the application so i had to start with another email address.
February 2021, i had a baby and our focus shifted for a while.
Few days to the virtual session in March, hubby got the invite which he later attended. Unknown to me, i also got the invite (which i saw months later because i re-ed with my less used email). We were just glad hubby got it and we didnt lose out on it. We sent an EOI after the session.

April 2021 came and i saw people receiving LOI left and right...haaa,oluwa, wetin dey occur??
As i no see any show, I had to goan apply for the PGD jeje and was hoping to gain ission, study while we restrategize.

June 2021, One evening, people were receiving another batch of LOI in the telegram group and i was lamenting that dem don jump me again..The next day, Naso hubby tell me he recieved a mail to check his and he has been trying to open his profile to no avail...I was baba,e no open bawosince morning and u no tell me?? na so i begin dey clear cookies, cache, browsing data, close and open different browser, rinse and repeat...till the profile tire and open o..I saw LOI with my eyes, i was happy ehn.
Immediately, we withdrew the previous EOI and sent another one according to the mail.

We sent a mail to them and waiting game for ITA began. people were receiving ITA the day after EOI but ours didnt come. A day turned into 2 days, 5 days, a week.. we were becoming scared because I have a sibling in another province (which is considered a risk). we did research to find people in the same situation, kept hoping and praying, sent mails, no response because you see ehn, this little ray of hope meant everything to us. Baba has started picking interest in the japa journey but was tired of writing IELTS.
As a last resort, we drafted a comionate mail to show our genuine interest in the province (na only beg remain wey we no do) and we told ourselves that will be the last attempt, God should take control.
Exactly a month later, we got a response to one of our mails that ITA has been sent. We were HAPPYYYY!!!

We gathered documents, took some risks:
-used 100% gift deed (which we got stamped and signed by the commissioner of oaths at the high court for #50, nothing more...),
-an LOE merged with the NIS application printout in place of our daughter's port (which took about 5 weeks),
- our digital photos were taken with an app on my phone (we had to take another pic of our baby for Federal ITA)
-reference letter for PA (he was paid in cash and indicated in the RL but we didnt attach any cash salary certificate) and 6 months statements of current job (which was almost irrelevant)
-Stanbic mutual funds investment certificate, statement, reference letter (this one sef took 2 weeks and we had to submit the application without it, kept going to the bank until the day i made a scene and refused to leave, they sent it to my mail few hours later.
- POF is in my so we attached a letter of consent (signed by me..no notary, stamp or anything)
- our marriage certificate was collected at our local government registry (we no go Ikoyi o) and it had a different profession to what we were doing at that time (people were of the opinion that it must match with the personal history). We eventually submitted.
We ed the Stanbic reference letter and our daughter's port when it was ready.

my first IELTS in 2019 we thought we would have gotten nomination and fed ITA but it expired 3 weeks after we submitted (yeah, thats how time flies). Funds were kinda tight so no room for unnecessary spending, thats why i researched more, tried to find people in the same situation and didn't just do follow follow. We decided to wait for an ADR for updated IELTS (which never came). Hubby's CRS dropped to 387 while my profile became ineligible.
Nomination wey people dey get in 1 week, e reach our turn, it came in 9 weeks! Anyway, nothing spoil!

Oct 2021, we got the nomination certificate, got federal ITA, used all documents submitted for NB, collected PCC.
Few days after, i realized i wasnt offered ission to the PGD and classes have resumed already (who needs it again anyway..lol)
Nov 2021, we submitted without medicals (submitted an LOE that we are outlands and will await their instructions).
I ed lotssssssssss of groups on telegram, WhatsApp and some other websites just to be up to date with informations that i eventually became overwhelmed with it.
I cant checking our profile after submitting till we got BIL in January 2022 but you see after BIL ehn, anxiety started...found myself checking multiple times a day for GUs and all. We did upfront medicals after BIL and it was ed in few days after sending mails to london office where our medicals are being assessed.
I had to try and distract myself by learning a digital skill till PPR came knocking!

This japa journey tested our patience, there are times we argued, fought, laughed, prayed, encouraged each other depending on situation.
Its not how far but how well and we are glad it has ended in praise!!!
Thanks for reading!

Anyway I no blame us, we always be a third world continent.

Have you heard Robotic Process Automation (RPA) before, they are simple workflows that help to improve worker's efficiency not eliminate the real work force.. You don't need a write a single line of code to design these processes, moreover they are simple shapes that you can put together as a layman to simplify your task...

Yes with the many coders that are parading the street of Nigeria how come all our technological problems are yet to be resolved?? So in the future as a lawyer, I wouldn't be hired based on my qualifications and cases i have won? Rather i would be hired based on softwares i have coded? So clients will need to see my GitHub profile and go through softwares that i have coded, or i must be a programmer before hiring me. Or in the future the new generation Messis and Ronaldo's will no longer be signed by any club not because they don't have good football skills but because they don't know how to code? Or better still in future artists like Timaya, Davido, Wizkid, and other artists will no longer have fans or make money from music because they don't know what a variable is in programming.
Like in the future GT bank will hire me as a customer care agent not based on my qualifications, customer relationship skills, and computer literacy skill, but based on the fact that I know how to program in C++. If your wife is sick so before you allow any doctor to touch her that doctor must know how to code?
People are working in Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, and big tech companies earning fat checks without even knowing what a variable is in programming. Knowing how to use software and knowing how to code software are different things entirely. Google is free to use for christ's sake stop embarrassing yourself in public, please. and I am telling you in the future computer literacy would become a redundant affair. You would need to upskill or else you would be left out.

There's difference in being a computer literate and coding bros, out of curiosity how many years id experience do you have in the IT field

Not everyone will become programmers, mind you all the noise about coding doesn't cut it because you can pay excellent coders to develop a solution for you, while you sell it and go on to become a billionaire...

If you aren't ionate about it, you can't force it, by the way if there are no farmers won't Coders die?? If there are no nurses or doctors won't coders fall ill and eventually die?? If there are no architects, how will a coder build his house??

Hmm. That's why as a computer programmer, I get worried sometimes when an employer or an investor ask for my business ideas. Our business is just to vulnerable to this kind of theft!

205years grin grin grin it means, even in his next life he is still owing US prison sentence and next life again. U see life in prison is torturing compared to death sentence

grin grin grin grin infact a death sentence will be lenient in this case, the judge just want to punish him with slow death

smiley The wise with funds to invest should see this as an opportunity.the others would start political arguments this article is real.

FC WAMCO a private multinational..single handedly revived the nigerian dairy industry with this milk collection programme they invested billions of naira..

we cannot in the south sit on our keyboards and demonise innocent cattle with unscrupulous owners when we ourselves are not making moves to enter into the cattle business

this was my my view three years ago when i saw a similar article about wamco in iseyin.. so i took the plunge and moved to iseyin to start a cattle and dairy farm

so i have witnessed this system.. i have learnt about cows.. milked my own cow (yes by myself) and i have received cash for my milk via transfer from fc wamco.. i have seen the hygienic mill collection room where farmers , both fulani and non fulani..bring in their milk

southerners need to start building ranches and cashing out on this milk and beef money. we can learn like i did.. i have learnt so much from my move to iseyin..

i was introduced to improved pastures by the company.. now i provide seeds and suckers of improved pasture grass to other cattle farmers.. check my posts if you are interested

also my five acre purpose built dairy farm facility in iseyin is up for sale.. it has borehole farm staff house and cow house/ milking area. never used before..it is going for 7million naira.. call 0706 346 3851 if you are a serious buyer..reason for sale is i am expanding to oyo town on my own family land ..

i never used the farm because God blessed me with another 6 acres in front of my rented apartment so i moved my cows there and took care of them myself..no fulani involved.. i have been sucking up cow knowledge everyday like a sponge. i would advise anyone with good capital and love of farming to invest in this.. cheers all
