Bolded is not totally correct. Kashmir is split between India, Pakistan and China. India considers the part istered by Pakistan to be Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). Pakistan considers the part istered by India to be Indian Occupied Kasmir (IOK), India considers the part occupied by China to be Chinese Occupied Kashmir (COK). Pakistan and India agree on a line of control which divides the IOK from the POK.

Please note that Kashmir was a Sikh kingdom (although with a Muslim majority populace) before the western Kahmir rebelled against the maharaja as they wanted to Pakistan rather than being an independent kingdom as earlier agreed. Today Kashmir territories have some level of autonomy in both countries.
