Op is right, we have Professors without PhD even in Nigeria. However, the new standard today in Nigeria is that you will bag your PhD first and in public universities you must have been in academics for a minimum of ten years and then your research works, anything you have written since you started putting pen on paper in that field will be sent out for assessment by other Professors in your field (three of them) then when their report comes back if two out of the three approve that you are worthy of that appointment then it will be awarded to you. But this is the ideal thing, I don’t know if it is still being followed. But I trust University of Ibadan and most first generation universities in Nigeria are still following that standard. A friend is calling off his wedding plans because he thinks his girlfriend lacks integrity. They have known for about 3years and he has not complained about her to me or any one.
