I have had this same experience of peppery food from eateries and some guesthouses recently. Across Nigeria. You can't taste the food because of the amount of pepper in it. One time, I was weeping as I struggled to finish my plate of asaro. On reflection, I wondered if the high price of tomatoes was making cooks depend more on pepper. The people of the South West eat a lot of pepper but I find that some people of the North Central do the same. 1 Like |

Hmm. I spent some time this morning chatting with a friend and her young daughter. I asked the daughter how she found her school and she said she didn't like it. She's going to JSS2 next academic year. She talked about episodes of not getting enough food at the canteen, finding a fly or hair in their food. She said that that the quality of the food was poor. She said that the students had been warned not to tell their parents anything negative but must make reports to stated officers. She talked about the uncleanliness of the dining room which would only undergo deep cleaning when parents were expected. She complained about a teacher who ended a term without taking eight topics and advised the class to read them on their own. And about teachers who would just come to the class to dictate notes. Her mum said she wanted to talk to the school officials but her daughter asked her not to do it so she wouldn't be hounded. As she listened to her child again, she said she would talk the religious body which owns the school without letting on that her daughter was involved. I told her it wouldn't work because they would know she got the information from an insider and would link it to her daughter. This is a school which used to get the WAEC excellence awards. Things have deteriorated there even though their fees are very high, some of the highest in the country. One must try to get updated on the situation in schools which they are interested in sending their children to and not rely on the messaging from schools. |

Mrs Bola, I'm a fan of adire too. Your collection is rich BUT I see that you have some of the Chinese reproduction fabrics displayed too. How does one order the traditional type? Can you separate them in your display? Thank you. |

He has no responsibility to you since you haven't paid him what you agreed to pay. Honestly, you have no right to stay in his house. As advised, please pay him now or move out. We can make life easier for ourselves sometimes. 1 Like |

sunsweet33: I didn't know this was a widespread practice. I checked a ward's Agriculture textbook recently and was stunned to see its material was largely based on publications and figures from the Directorate of Food, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI). This was a failed project from more than two decades back. The grammar was something else. I have considered writing to the proprietors to urge them to review the choice of textbook but wondered if my letter would have an effect. With your information, I think I should hold my peace. 1 Like |

Namaster: I believe that our architects require some updating in this area. When my design showed a ramp for access to the front door (on one side and stairs on the other side), the engineer who was assisting us didn't see why one was needed. Then he decided to switch them and make the stairs the focus of the approach. That would have resulted in a very steep ramp. I refused and took control. Later, he confessed that when he talked with some of his friends, they enlightened him about the use of ramps in homes. He said he had believed that ramps were only used in public settings. Even then, when I had asked him, months earlier, if our new church building design had a ramp, all he said was that a car could go into the building and the enger would alight! He's been practising for decades. I believe that special attention should be paid to the issue of building accessibility in the training of our architects and engineers. Even where ramps exist, I find that they are sometimes too steep for safety. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Just this week, I read about farmers waiting for the release of dam water in either Katsina or Kano State. The project is apparently owned by the Federal Government but the state has provided a generator. The officials haven't pumped water because they say they need funds to install the generator, buy diesel, oil etc. The farmers said that if the water wasn't released by next week, they would have lost the opportunity to farm this dry season. This lack of preparation by government agencies is also responsible for hitches in the agricultural sector. |

I would get a basket and fill it with packets of oats, powdered milk, sugar, crackers, garri, Poundo, a scrubbing brush, dishwashing liquid, a couple of kitchen napkins etc. Give them the pleasure of exploring their gift. I'm glad you have peace living with them and that your health has improved. A grateful heart brings more blessings. 1 Like |
