Look at Ford or Citroen, they are price friendly even if it's automatic.

Evening Everyone.

Can anyone please recommend a reliable automatic, petrol family car? The budget is about £2500.

Had car challenges over the past months...Stories for another day.

Thank you!

Hello house, please has anyone experienced this before, applying for my dependant skilled worker's dependant visa, on scanning the BRP with the UKVI app, it shortens the middle name. Although the name on the BRP is the full name, how can this be corrected please?

Hi everyone,
am in the UK on a skilled visa, I need to go to for holiday,
how do I process the visa and the associated cost.

Thanks

Please I need to make this clarification or if anyone has even experienced this:
when a skilled worker (with dependants) changes to a dependent visa, what happens to the dependant when she was on the skilled worker.

She's now a dependent to her partner. So the question is, what happens to the dependant (children) who are her dependent when she was on the skilled worker.

The husband got a skilled worker visa, so she
switched to his dependant but the children who was her dependent when she has the skilled worker visa still have a long time on their visa.

Do the children need to change their visa (since the skilled worker holder is now dependent of the partner).

UPDATE on Visa switch within the uk after curtailment
After a year plus in the uk with an unreliable employer that brought us in. No shifts, excuses, pregnancy redundancy etc. sought for cos for over a year and we no see. Decided to back down. Shockingly the employer curtailed our leaved without prior information. Para entered body as we have kids, properties etc. the day the we got the email from home office with 4 attachments of the curtailment letters, I was shocked, couldn't work, lost hope felt like my life has been cut short.
I came back home and told my wife that we MUST get cos within 7days if we apply the same strategy we used when we got from Nigeria. We swung into action, met a solicitor in London, that one too carry more para our existing para say make we use our uk born baby get papers bla bla bla. I went through all the immigration laws, council website, citizen advice and even found out a help on it for displaced carers etc. from same website, it took me to another website that showed licenced health and care employers in the uk only. I had to add some tech skills in my search, applying to every part of uk from England to northern Ireland to Scotland to wales and gracefully I got this employer that is leaving 30 mins walk away from us, listened to our story, had interview and gave offer followed by a cos without a dime. Infact we told the employer we would pay isc after it was assigned, employer no gree I started suspecting the COS sef. All of these happened within 5 days. The employer assigned the cos and kept quiet. After like 3 more days we asked the employer about the way forward and employer said it has been done. We said ah ah, send us the document naaa, boom email entered and it was it. Employer hasn't done it before and we appeared to be the first to be assigned by the company, lots of mistakes including sub category, work duration (1 year then corrected to 3 years) and missing ISC charge. Sponsor note was added and we applied with priority as our 60 days is already counting down. Then emailed isc and business helpdesk including work sponsor team concerning the isc error and the payment ref that was made after the error. They acknowledged the email within 24 and telling us they have returned our application to case work and Within another 24 hours case worker approved it. Its been about 17days from the time of curtailment to successful application. From the time of visa application to approval was just 3 days with priority and id app identity check.
I am happy to share this post.
I hope this answers some people's question here on NL.

My brother don't mind any criticism about UK. Come to UK, your wife as the student and you will get a good work.
I am also Electrical Engineer like you, though came in 2022 as a student and after graduating, it takes me only 2 months to get a well paying job. Electrical Engineer here in the UK is a shortage occupation and they are in dare need of it that if you have enough experience with God's Grace.
UK might be an easier route for you because you can't say what will happen in the Nigeria, I left when £1 is 700 and now it's about 2050.
I never regret leaving the country. Move and you will thank God for it.

Please don't let it get too much into you, it's a phase and it will definitely . Don't be discourage about what they said about you, since they gave you a second chance, give it your best and you will laugh last.

But wait, why warehouse? Have done warehouse job before but I have to run after about one month so it won't kill me.
You said you did education in Nigeria, are you a qualified teacher from Nigeria and even if not, you can do cover supervisor as an unqualified teacher and they pay very well, and if you work your way to becoming UK qualified teacher, you can get sponsorship easily there.

Please put your mind off it, pray and socialise with friends and family.

Otokitifunmi:
Good evening house, please I need your help, advise, suggestions on how to get into a care role/ job here in the UK.

I came into the UK (Birmingham)Oct 2023 through the student dependant visa and I have walked into most care homes around me and also applied through Indeed but unfortunately mail is all I have been getting.
Hence, I got a warehouse job and that's what I have been doing for the past 7 months; we were told at induction that we would get contract with d company after working for 3 months and I have worked very hard in this Warehouse like I have never worked before in my life but this people gave alot of people contract and didn't give me d contract,
I met with the agency recently and asked why my name was not included among those that were given contract and she said it was because I didn't come to work once (of which I called her to inform her that I was feeling dizziness and wouldn't be able to come to work) she also said I came late for 2 minutes a couple of times( that true because I resume 5:45 am on morning shift and the closest bus comes to that area around 5:30am at it earliest and other times 5:35am and I have to trek 19mins to get to work, imagine running every morning shift to meet up with the time and this people can't relate because they don't take a bus.
Almost all the people that came after me have been given contract but they said I should wait for 2 to 3 months again for them to check my clocking in time before they can consider me for contract.

I seriously have been feeling down because of this, probably because I felt I have given my best to these people and they don't appreciate it. Alot of people that are lazy and shy away from work are being given contract and not hardworking ones. It is time I leave the warehouse job for my health.

Please any information on how to successfully switch to care/ roles will be appreciated 👏

I studied ing education in Nigeria, where can I get agencies that train people for the NVQ 2 or other related courses I can take?

Please help your sister before high blood pressure will finish me with over thinking

I understand your fear couple with
1. High exchange rate
2. High Visa and IHS fee,
3. UK uncertain immigration terrain,
4. Possibility of getting a high paying job with sponsorship in UK.

With all the above said, your skill-set should be the foundation of your decision because it is the pointer to how well you will get a good job that can offer you sponsorship, this with the Grace and Help of God. It is your marketing/selling point.

I was in your shoe in 2022, had doubts, leaving my job (I work with a telecom firm then), leaving my business (I have a privately run business then though I still do it on part time now), selling my cars, converting my houses to full tenement apartment (One of them I build it as if I will be living there), how will I be able to get a good job here, resettling my family without issues.

I took the difficult decision and today I thank God I took the decision. Though we are not where we want to be yet but the path is already looking good and rewarding.
Below are my advise:
1. Study a course that tally with your Nigeria experience because that will be your selling point here.
2. You are it Tech (IT), I think you should have no issue here. I am also in tech too but not IT and I can tell you the sector has a lot of rewards and it gets better as you progresses.
3. If your wife is a qualify teacher or a Nurse/Doctor/Medical field/Engineering, this gives you a better hope. But if not, don't worry, have Faith and God will come through for you.
4. If you finally come to UK, try to graduate with a very good grade, It get why. I am a living witness.
5. Believe in yourself and know that failure is not an option.
6. Like some people suggested, you can also try Canada (though not sure but I use to hear that it's a bit easier there).

Best of luck.
Sorry for the long epistle, just wanted to a message across to you.
Apology in case of any typo.

Good morning house
Please I kind of need an advice from y’all in the Uk
I’m a software developer (mobile app developer) in Nigeria with two years of experience and I currently earn about 500k.
I started making plans on coming to the Uk via study route and I’m currently in the stage of applying for my visa. I have been very optimistic about this but last night I spent a long time thinking about it as I’m really worried about the situation I read about the Uk and where they stand with immigration.

I have been following this thread for months to understand what it’s like over there and I really hope I get a response. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾

What's the useless basis of comparison?
For example someone earning #350,000 per month in Lagos will hardly be able to save if you have loan you are servicing.
Same person came to UK and was earning say £52k PA and earning around £3,050 after tax. If the spouse is working, will live a very comfortable life with high quality of life. It's better you leave Nigeria when you are younger if you desire to leave.

My advise: if you are a professional, please leave Nigeria and find a better future for yourself and family. Not everyone here is doing odds jobs like some people say. Even those doing so called odd jobs are making it big. To me no job is odd as long as it pays your bill.

Those giving the rubbish comparison have their own children abroad.

Kemistri3:
Are you still interested in moving to the United Kingdom (UK) after seeing this?😀

Hello my people, I have come again, my appreciation for your prompt response to my request/worry earlier today, I appreciate them a lot. My thanks goes to @Lexusgs430, @Controlv, @LaXxOnebody, @LionlnZion and my special thanks to @Jamesclooney; God bless you sir for your advice and encouragement, am grateful. I appreciate all Nairaland family, this is a community like family that relieve your burden when you don't see way forward.
About my last request and worries, tonight around past 7pm, I got home office approval for our skilled worker dependent visa and that of my children.
I will tell little of my story, I came into the UK late 2022 on a student visa, couldn't get a job, we were spending the little change we brought from Nigeria though we had paid 6 months rent in advance before leaving Nigeria and that really helped us when there was no job.
Early 2023 I later got a factory work, after working there for like 4 weeks, the stress was too much on me so I had to resign, the thing wan destroy my waist and leg, so I ran for my life. Thereafter I was using my car for Domino delivery though they only give me around 14hrs/week and sometimes even 10 hrs/week. I also was doing teaching as a cover supervisor to cover the remaining hours. Also my wife was really helpful during this my 1 year studies.
Fast forward, I was applying for jobs late December as my course ends in January, 2024, a lot of rejection because of student visa stuff but from January 2024, I started getting some interviews but when it gets to right to work, they always back off.

Along the line, an agent from an online jobsite categorically call me and told me that since I don't have UK experience, I should come down on my salary expectation and come to something like 35K or 40K but with my 16 years professional experiences and my experience in my last job in Nigeria, I was determined to go for the best. Also, from this forum, there were advices by some of our people that said you should go for the salary range you want and someone even said here that don't apply for salary range you don't want. Before I forget, I graduated with distinction when my result came out in February (All Glory to God). All these encourage me to go for what I want, I was applying for as many as I could in my desired salary range and later within the last two weeks of interview I got a job of over 60K with hybrid working and a lot of benefits.
I am so grateful to God for His mercies and to this forum for all the precious advises. Am grateful.

I decided to write this long epistle as this might encourage someone in this group that it will always get better. Thank you once again.
Please pardon me for any typo.

Happy Sunday, below is my situation, I got a job offer(application /interview process was faster than anticipated) and I initially told them I will be resuming next week but my issue is, have already applied for my skilled worker dependant visa but not out yet and I supposed to submit it with my documentation.

I can't resume the work with my student visa hence why I applied already to switch.

My question is: can I write the company to change my resumption date?
Or what's your advice?

Thanks sir I have PM you. Thanks for this analysis, it really help. I will like to ask you some questions?
Jamesclooney:

This your situation just gave me de ja vu. I’ll tell the whole story then maybe you can pick one or two lessons to apply.

Few years ago, like you, I was on a student visa and in the process of switching to a dependent visa (skilled worker).
The Home Office website stated standard processing time was 2 months or so. In the end it took 4+ months (I applied in July, got the decision late October). In retrospect, I should have paid the extra money for express visa (extra £1 or 2K can’t again).
I applied for the jobs in advance; got several offers. Some bounced me at the point of share code check because of student visa limitations of 20h/week. And dependent visa was taking time without any concrete timescales.
Finally got a managerial offer with £50k+ salary based in London. These guys were wiling to wait but not indefinitely. They were calling regularly just to check up with the visa. I just dey bobo them every week just to buy time.
I sent Home Office all kinds of emails/letters/calls. Nothing positive, just auto or generic responses…High volumes of applications, Ukraine & Afghanistan were priority etc.
Then I went to my local MP to complain.
He took my details and wrote to the Home Office stating my predicament (loss of jobs, potential loss of £50k job and loss for the economy as my job was in high demand etc.)

Within weeks Home Office responded to him, telling him there’s backlog blah blah blah.

I kept following up, going to his Constituency office/surgery monthly and calling his office as well. Then his staff would chase Home Office again.

Long story short, I got a decision late October to resume Nov. Just at the point the employer was about to withdraw my offer after waiting a whole two months for me!
I was so grateful to them all. Bought MP Christmas card, bottle of wine and chocolates for his staff. Gave my all for my “new” employer as a gesture of appreciation.
So yeah, I know how you feel, try and be diplomatic with the new guys and escalate your visa application through all channels..
Happy to help if you need more info privately.
Goodluck

You response looks and seems some how. There is no fault in asking, I only asked so as not to make mistake. At the end of the day, i was able to work through. I was filling it for a close person, so was careful not to fill the wrong form.
You seems full of yourself as if you know everything, your tone sounds arrogant. If you don't have a better answer to my initial enquiry, waka . So is there any offence is asking?. Over confidence dey worry you.

Honestly , I think this someone needs help, serious help.

Someone who has been in the UK for sometime. Has gotten a tonne of experience, enough for them to apply for SKILLED VISA. Keyword: SKILLED. Someone who has gone through the rigours of health & care training, enough to work as an Expatriate in the UK. Someone who made job applications, attended interviews and found eligible for SKILLED worker visa.

Yet someone has to ask a friend to ask on a faceless forum for the link to apply for the visa?

I know that my position may vary with a lot of people here, but I honestly think that some people are not doing themselves any good.
If the question was about some technicalities of completing the visa form, I would say fair enough… but to not take 2 minutes of your own time to google uk visa application link? Imagine the circle. The CoS owner doesn’t know the link. The CoS owner had to ask you, and you too doesn’t know. And both of you couldn’t take 3 minutes to search online, but to come to Nairaland and ask the most rudimentary question?

You (we all) can do better.
