Nigeria’s former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has said Nigeria’s decision not to let its students participate in the 2020 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was a wrong one. The federal government recently reversed its earlier announcement on the resumption of schools, saying no Nigerian school will participate in the regional examinations earlier scheduled for August 5 to September 5. This year’s examination, istered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), was postponed indefinitely in April after it was earlier scheduled to commence in May. The postponement was due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has ravaged the globe for months. Nigeria has so far recorded over 20,000 infections and over 600 deaths. Mr Abubakar, in a statement Friday, said the federal government’s decision “will further create chaos in the public education system and exacerbate an already bad situation.” According to him, the cancellation will cause a set back for 1.5 million Nigerian youth who write the examination annually. “To abruptly cancel this examination is to set back our nation’s youth, and place them behind their contemporaries in other West African nations. This is perilous, because Foreign Direct Investments and other economic indicators, are tied to the educational indexes of nations.” He said Nigeria already lags behind other African nations in crucial indices, like school enrolment, rates, and out of school children. Suggesting a way out, Mr Abubakar stated that “rather than cancellation, there are better ways to protect the health of Nigerians and prevent the pandemic from escalating.” “We could mobilise all available public and private infrastructures including primary schools, stadia, and cinemas, for the examinations,” he said. “In the alternative, the federal government can prevail on WAEC to have staggered examinations with a different set of questions for each shift. Doing so will allow WAEC Nigeria implement social distancing and achieve the goal of carrying out the examinations. A win-win scenario.” Mr Abubakar then urged the Muhammadu Buhari-led istration to consider a reversal of the decision “because if this policy is not reversed, tens of thousands, and possibly hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, will breach social distancing rules to cross over to neighbouring West African nations to write their WASSCE, rather than miss a year.” source https://www.timesng.com/news/top-news/402292-waec-atiku-faults-nigerias-withdrawal-from-2020-wassce.html

Still on 29th July Am writing with limited time n space so daz y i jump certain details n gists but hopefully with time will elaborate more on my episodes... After the Morning drills we had 2 balls of Akara n Pap with 2cubes of sugar for Breakfast We had our laundry n sanitation time till we had our lunch which was watery ogbonoic bitterleaf soup, very yucky, While we were still eating in the hostels the Beagle started its annoying sound of "fall out'. The murmuring dat ensued here n there lessenned wen Soldiers started chasing everybody out.. As a perpertual late comer i chop anoda frog jump, We got to our platoon as the Officers incharge of our platoon arent smiling at all, We have a female Officer n a male officer as our platoon instructors.. During the parade a guy made my day.. The guy obviously not in sound health defied his health condition to be attentioning upandan, at a point his body cudnt take it any more he signaled a red cross corper to help carry him out of d parade ground dat he is weak, d red cross corper insteas of heeding d guys words continued asking useless questions like.. Wats wrong with u? Av u eatn? Aw is it doing u? While his incessant questions persisited the sick guy fell on him n fainted lols no be person tell d red cross guy to summon for stretcher n ambulance... After the parade we elected our platoon president n vice president We went for our dinner... Untasty jollof rice n fish Before eating jack d beagle started again for fall out... Dey wont even allow d food to digest in our stomachs Its our welcome party Yoruba igbo n hausa welcomed us in their different styles It was fun tho as the dance floor was lit up by unholy crowd on d stage Den i jazzed into mamy to hotten up my nerves ![]() Before we were chased back to the hostels by the soldiers 1 Like |

Lemme use dis opportunity to describe the Camp.... Cross river State temporary Orientation camp is located at akamkpa Abi lga of cross river... Its a 30mins drive from calabar municipal.. Its a College of Education, with a large landmass, d school boasts of two hostels for Male n two for females, the truth is dat the school is even better dan some Federal polys via infrastructure, environment, landscape etcetera WATER The camp has a flowing stream n lots of boreholes n a Mechanical pump (manpower) all around d hostels.. So water isnt a problem so to say ELECTRICITY At least we get good 4hours of Nepa light everyday, so its fair to me MAMMY Market The mammy market is more of temporary defined bcuz evry structure there is built with bamboo sticks n woods den mostly canopies, tho tinz are expensive in the market, everytin is virtually on biz there SECURITY the security on camp is tight as should be, the soldiers are visibily all over d camp, dey r easily spotted at every nook n cranny In generality i commend Nysc for providing us a school better dan their permanent Orientation camp at obubra Will drop more updates about d camp later |
