I think this is a good development. Let them take all the gays from Nigeria and let naija be gay-free. Problem has changed hands. Our prisons are full enough and people are tired of lynching them already.

P.S.
^^ When I made this comment above, I did not intend to annoy gay people. I am not homophobic, I own a pink shirt angry

Lagos, southwest Nigeria is one of the most densely populated states in Nigeria. Lagosians are in hundreds of millions. Infrastructures are stretched to the limit by the population. Of course, Lagos is working in spite of this and other perennial challenges. But citizen's days are hectic going to and fro the municipal areas, often in the morning and at night. well that's typical of a changing societies around the world.

We Nigerians are relatively poor at one thing: entry-exit spread: We suppose to have several entry-exit places like Lagos or "commercial hubs" planned into modern cities as growth poles in all state capitals and environ, with strong commercial and industrial appeal developed to lure city dwellers from the expensive and suffocating urban areas.

At least, even-growth across the hinterland is welcoming and should be encouraged. Life is good when plan works. what are going to do with reserve in the coffer when the need of the citizenry are not met? President, Governors, and all citizenry, please take note of this. Please discuss this issue at the confab! God bless you.

Howmanage: I get scared whenever i see these type of assertions that are not based on fact. Scared that it will end up in some western newspaper trying to make their readers laugh. Igbos are really Jews, Yorubas are really Egyptians, please you people should try na. Nigerians are already known as 419 capital, we don't need to add Laughing Stock of the World too... How embarassing that some dont have any self belief/esteem always got to try and tag themselves to other nations who won't touch you with a stick angry
So good you list everything you are not proud of here. What are you proud of as a Nigerian? There are whites that earnestly wish they were blacks from Nigeria. Don't let stupid fear of what white people will say kill your discovery, your future can be better-off if you have sound idea in this world regardless of where you are from. Suzan Wenger, Ulli Baier were whites. The world (white/black) will be willing to help you succeed if you can proof your mettles, that's it. Thanks.

Prince Justice:
What of OGUN STATE
I think this has to do with Wole Soyinka suggesting that the state be so called when it was about to be created. The state was named after odo [river] Ogun, which run through the state capital, etc. and emptied to the Lagoon somewhere at mcwen, via bonny camp. V/I.

Alaka

ALAKA is about 3 variants: aka (vault) as found in 'awor re mbe l'aka' and aka 2 means swinging fruit as in 'agba bi...' (swinging like) aka or pluck-able. Thus Alaka means vault owner, revolver or plucker. ALAKIJA means 'strong in battle'. ATANDA means a child that has to be conceived in a subtle way for his value, or a 'child [product] of light.' afreekah: OP , why nah ? IBIKUNLE IS THERE, WHAT OF AMOSUN ? ABEG HELP ME FIND AM. . .

amosun means one who takes osun. Osun is Yoruba for camwood, and it is also found in thi expression "agan a towo ala bosun" an idiom meaning a barren would deep their white hands in camwood, 'a fi pomo lara' and then rob it on their child. Amosun thus mean someone who reach for the camwood. Also, Osun is Yoruba subtle word for Oshun. as such it has to do with spring, as they say sun, to issue sweat. But more poetically it means "one who reach for the spring." But historically it is inbetween lightskin and tan skin: a creole.

ona2: deity of the way. that sounds more acceptable. thanks.

Ona has to do with creativity, trade, and dealbrokerage. From this we have onaja or onoja: a variant of Ona is Ota or Ora or Oloja. ths particularly crept into Ifa as awon omo oloja merindinlogun. From this same ona, the ancient Yoruba derive the word "anago". it still feature in people's name till date, expecially among the Ijebus.

Albeit, Ona definitely has to do with way. In my community people says "wori woku ona koiwa" This were olorishas, and that ona has to do with the route of migration.

enigma_otr: You ommitted the one-in-a-ten-thousand name, Oloruntomiloba= God is sufficient as my King.

I've got names for my 'Atinuke alreadysmiley, but this's a nice thread.

...can someone please, tell me the meaning of the name, 'Ajiun'? grin. Heard it's usually given to beautiful baby girls.

Ajiun is from aji-wun, meaning 'someone who is pleasant as she wakes.'
ajiun is someone you desire each time she wake up in the morning or so.
You can comparatively observe it yourself in close kin, "eji wun mi". Can you see it?
when put to use, the letter w is silenced, we call it silent letter. Don't we?
And without 'w' you may not arrive at the name's truest meaning.
sometimes words being concealed are in utter simplicity.

The ancient Yoruba describe one of their ancestors "Odunnwo"
This means, pleasant to behold, so Ajiun is a to this.

barezi893: @ Ladionline Someone said this means Are u looking 4 a toilet or a restaurant?
Nope, Itura is comfort, so ile itura is roughly saying 'comfort zone' or Hospitality centre. On the other hand, toilet is 'yara igbon-se' that is the 'room for issuance of press' Igbon is like ife, mo fe lo su, can be express euphemistically as igbe ngbon mi. igbe had once been euphemism as well, since 'iyagbe means 'branching off to bush' the true word for 'poopoo' is 'isu' just like issue, where it means outflow of subtance. another variant is imi, meaning breathing or shaking when considering this has to do with igbon. well hope its not much ado about shit to you? to me here is interplay of linguistics lexis. Want to do Lexicography? Its a deep thing, though, but it's only the deep that calls to the deep.

@OPS, post enlightment, Compte De Gobineau postulated his Aryan nation theory, to border the prosperous britain. trust britain for revolutionary thrust, charles darwin was britain answer to the christian gobineau. he was an instant hit. ops! darwin chides Christian God as not creating earth in six dayz. on and on hitler was inspired. he took on the world. The world bleeds around the environments of differentiation to date, more than anywhere else. and the pseudoscience of differentiation always fan the ember of colorbar and war to all, and those with 'larger than all' self conceptions soon come to self demistification sooner or later. thats crazy in a crazy world. the world still bleeds. Help heal the world. You can heal the world very close to you, you can heal your imaginations about others and that can make a difference.

All men are from one stock. Race is an invention of convenience. People holds to historionics to patronize racism. history is the healthy form of this while religion is unfortunately the worst in race relations. The west shrewdly rode on her opportunities to greatness, while others look on and on.

Fulaman198:

My question is why do African women always feel the need to be accepted in foreign cultures abroad? They try so hard to be something they are not.
Well it is the culture of instruction in all African institutions. You have tv heros you love to project from childhood. you have your tv dreamland in the west. what will you do if these expectation materialize? the next thing is to live your dream and be assimilated quickly. You will be odd if you have to prove anything other than what sorrounds you. How many people will you explain to that you are projecting Africa? You will be overwhelmed quickly. It is better to identify with your host or you exit. But you wont know when you start to do things over the moderation bar anyway. Such a tin line of definition nobody knows, except an observer who is also not without bias. Individually, we all have right to sane human cultural projections. People choose freely if they are free.

^^Every human being desire acceptance wherever they are secondary settlers. Self preservation come first, then in the midst of ones folks its eazy to feel at home. But when in aggregate setting, one may not be able to overcome the need to adapt to the nuances of the host culture. It's flip-flop in that respect.

Thats what i mean by poverty of the mind. Curruption in nigeria is a plague, sort of. If you take a tribe and sort a sample, you will be alarm at the "me-too" attitude of Nigerians to corruption. Thats too poor, poorer than poverty. Should opportunity present itself, such individual become notorious to get even with attainment of their perceived oppressors at public expense. WE ARE THE ONES "DOING" OURSELVES TAKING VAIN PRIDE IN VANITY FAIR.
