Kmgb1: I presently work as a full time AML Investigator in the new place and I still spend almost $400/month on transport to work. The bill is covered by my overtime pay on a monthly basis anyway. 1 Like 1 Share |

Elektra008: Thank you. The CSR rolw e with TD Bank was a customer service/teller role. I was in the banking industry in Naija for a while. I believe fitting your CSR into an acceptable NOC should not be a big deal. There are NOCs for banking roles. |

1 year stock taking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I clocked 1 year in Canada today like play like play o and it has been an interesting journey. I writing about how I got my first job with TD Bank 3 weeks after landing in Canada (I think it is in part 1 of this thread). I started as CSR with TD Bank in May 2018. Though, it was not the best paying job but it helped me to pay some of my bills and got me into the financial industry. While I was at it, I was actively looking for something bigger and better. In July 2018, one of the recruitment agencies got me an interview for another role, aced it and I got a 6 month contract role with another bank. I left TD Bank but I was just getting to like the bank. Before i forget, we had a road trip to Niagara falls in one weekend like that. The kids really enjoyed it the Water Park. I started the new role in August 2018, it was supposed to run till February 2019. That's how I started paying almost $400/month on transportation to work o ( I live in Brampton and travel on the GO Train to Downtown Toronto everyday for work). My weekly overtime hours pay for that. Met some Naija people in the course of my waka here and we had a small Christmas get together with my new Naija friends. It was a fun. Madam was elated at ing her first turkey baking challenge. Abeg, I am still looking for more Naija people in this neighborhood. So, one faithful afternoon in the first week in January 2019 like that while I was having my lunch, na so my Manager came to call me that I should see him after my break, I was like "abi contract don end be that? or was I not delivering my deliverable". Anyway, I went to see the guy and he was like they were offering me a conversion of my status from contract to full term employee. I was even doing shakara that I wanted a senior role. Anyway, I sha took the offer. I am enjoying the job and the stuff I am learning. It's looking upward and cant complain. I feel the need for a part time job, so I started a travel website : http://budgetfaresnow.com/ for flights, hotels and shopping. Abeg make una help a brother. I also have a block of (4nos) 3 bedroom flat for sale in Ikorodu, Lagos. I am hoping to a business soon in Canada and see how well it goes. Conclusion: 1. Everybody's story is different 2. It might be important to start small to sort out the bills 3. Last last, everybody will be alright !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 143 Likes 18 Shares |

Tojued: I know that you must have done prequalification before April 13th, 2018. My pre-arrival people ( Acces Employment) did my prequalification assessment. But for some of the roles, the applicants are redirected to external websites where you can apply directly without the prequalifcation issue I think. Example - Canada Council for the Arts roles and some other agencies. You need to check through. Thank you. 1 Like |

caon: My resume was not designed to suit a particular role. It was combination of sales experience ( that i got after leaving the banking industry) and the customer service experience ( some that i got in the bank and other roles). I think what worked was the relationship I was able to build while running trough my pre-arrival service program with Acces Employment connection program. So, I will suggest we key-in into the pre-arrival programs. This will make our journey easier. 13 Likes 7 Shares |

Long post Alert. Make una no vex abeg. We got our PPR on the 25th October 2017. Got our Visas and COPR in December 2017. I enrolled with Acces Employment Pre-Arrival services in December 2017. I attended a lot of webinars, read through my modules, did my assignments. They worked on my Nigeria CV and turn it into a Canadian styled resume. At the completion of the modules, I was assigned a Job Developer – his role was to work with me to get a job. I arrived in Ontario on March 2nd, 2018 and when I got to my hotel and switched on my phone, I realized I had 2 mails from my job developer: 1. He wanted to confirm if I was in-transit and I should let him know once I landed. 2. He wanted to know if he should forward my resume to a TD Bank recruiter. I replied the mails in affirmative. See this guy o!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the following happened: March 5th, 2018 – I got a screening assessment from TD Bank which I completed the same day March 6th, 2018 – I got a telephone call from a TD Bank recruiter scheduling a phone interview for March 7th, 2018 March 7th, 2018 – I did my Telephone interview. It was interesting though. March 12th, 2018 – Got an email for an In-Person interview for Thursday March 15th, 2018. March 15th, 2018 - I went for the In-Person interview at TD Bank office at Yorkdale. It was a interview of 2 interviewers. One of my interviewers said “You were highly recommended by the people at Acces Employment”. The interview took like 2 hours. I was drained when I left the place. March 19th, 2018 – Got a telephone call that I ed the interview and I should get a mail from TD Bank’s HR to know what the next step was. March 20th, 2018 – Got a telephone call from HR that I was being offered a role, I should get my offer letter and other documents within the next 2-3 working days March 22nd, 2018 – Got the offer letter, I accepted the offer and background checks were initiated. March 24th, 2018 - Background check started by First Advantage. Loads of forms to run through. I was told it might take up to 1 month to conclude the background check process. April 5th, 2018 – Got a telephone call from TD Bank to discuss my start date. The role is an entry level position but it affords me the opportunity to start a career in this country. I intend to do my certification exams within the next 6 months. The purpose of this post is to emphasis the importance of PRE-ARRIVAL programs. These programs are free and there for us to utilize. Please, let us try and take advantage of these programs. Got a class to attend now. I promise to share this journey with you guys as it unfolds. Have a great day all. 112 Likes 21 Shares |

elbanks1: I landed on the 2nd March, 2018. My International port will expire on 10th June, 2018. I had no problem with Ethiopian airline, there was no question about the validity of my port even the CBSA guys said nothing about it. All the CBSA guy told me was " WELCOME HOME". So, it was not an issue with me. I hope this helps. 12 Likes |
