This up there has always been my line of argument.
There is was money in ehailing, but the running cost takes a large chunk of the money

It has gotten to the point where calculator should be added to the work tools of a driver cos for every trip you take, it needs to be well calculated if not na loss dey wait for you for front

These days every movement with the car needs to be paid for. if you get personal waka, you have to pray you see a trip towards that area unless your fuel don short and you may end up hustling just the money you spent on fuel with nothing ontop

Ehailing made it worse, Suzuki, Yaris, city, corolla, civic, Kia Rio, Micras all have the same fare with Camry, accord, sonata and they expect the owners of the big engines to smile, not convert trips to offline, sell their cars and buy a smaller one et al.

The truth is no matter how you claim to love driving, when you start, nigga you go loose the zeal over time

For now I work only when there's surge and when there isn't I don't bother myself cos I know say na suffer head

at the bolded is a very valid point to be considered, if a person wants to get a car solely for e-hailing, there is no point buying a state of the art car that would tear pockets.
my advice before the surge in prices of cars has always been to buy a car not more than 1million and tune up to about 200k, this would enable driver recoup capital quickly and make profit also.
choice of car also is another critical aspect to consider in this business due to the cost of parts. i buying tokumbo shocks for my car 5k-7k, lower arm was around 3k-4k, shaft was 5k, hub 7k etc.
my car shares the same part with at and Volkswagen

But they say ehailing no dey do anything to car?
Some arguments sha, I go just dey one corner dey watch.
Oyibo despite their wiseness, smartness and exposure plus good environments and roads will phase cars out once they complete certain numbers of years.
But oversabi naija people say na them wise the producers of cars, that regular usage of car doesn't have effect on it.
Some minor accidents is already enough for them to push it down here but they bring them here fix them and say they will last forever, it's okay.
grin
Nigerians funny sha, anyways na economy dey affect our mentality. Go to wharf 80 if not 90 percent of cars coming into the country are accidents or flooded vehicles. Those days when u see toks vehicles coming into the country they look like almost brand new, same people arguing that car usage doesn't matter wi run when they see some high millage cars or totally avoid them.

It's alright.. some questions for you.. how much was fuel back then in 2021

Can you compare Nigeria economy of 2021 to 2024??

What about 20km fares on bolt in 2021 compare to 2024. Was there any increasment.??

I don't think any one currently on this thread can make that amount of 140k net monthly in Benin even in Lagos I still doubt .

Someone here argued with me this afternoon that frequent driving of bolt can't deteriorate your car.

sincerely, I stopped driving actively this year around april, but i can tell you, from conversations with fellow drivers in lagos on the telegram group 140k net in a month is a childs play grin
someone made about 150k net in 3days and the major complain was that fueling took a huge chunk of the total gross.
also not to talk about offline trips. i have a client that pays me 100k from the mainland to lekki around spar area. last year, i had an offline client that pays me 30-45k daily depending on the time spent (apapa -tradefair) we do this 2-4 times weekly depending on her schedule.
so lagos driver's dont only make money from uber and bolt alone.

Eiyah sorry. By the way, what model of car is this you're talking about?
Skoda Octavia
dont get me wrong when i say "e-hailing don scatter my car" i was referring to the physical condition of my car. no regrets at all, because the car has worked, 3 years of e-hailing i never did anybody work, changed engine once and not because of e-hailing. it was a necessity because the engine block was made of aluminum and it chopped, so no way to fix than to change engine.

This is were you will be deplorably and woefully disappointed if you have that mind set of achieving such amount of money daily with 7-8 hours on the road driving ... Them say who nor go nor go know.. well now only you one go fill the agony when the actual time comes. People you are yeiding to their advise have been driving for uberbolt way back since this thread was created. You can't compare the economy of Nigeria then to 2024.. majority of them don't drive anymore and some only drive weekends on rush hours not every day..

I will be here, time will tell.. now only the sweet side dem go only let you know

at the bolded, you are correct because I myself dont drive no more, (actively).
now that is because e-hailing was a means to an end, i understand the point you have been making but you should also know that lagos and Benin are not the same thing.
instead of discouraging the newbie, u can as well advise him not to solely depend on e-hailing, because the daily money can be enticing and make him loose focus.
i was in this same shoe 2021 but today I didn't regret venturing into the hustle, it was a major player in helping me level up today.
when i was driving actively, i ed some ajo group, i was doing over140k monthly.
another truth i didn't say earlier was that e-hailing don scatter my car grin.

Na the highlighted be the problem. Wetin be this big business. These are the issues I find hard to comprehend here. Everyone seem to know what is good for them except ehailing. Oya show us way na .. balablu go start. grin

at the bolded, I have always been a pro e-hailing advocate.
grin
well its nothing new from what i have been doing way before i started e-hailing.

i would not want to be specific on the thread, i have my reasons.

Despite the fact that i have always tried to avoid the urge to shalaye on this thread, sometimes i type long epistle only for me to proof read and find myself deleting everything and move on.
truth is every time I do this, deep down i feel like I'm denying someone the encouragement they need to scale through in this hustle.

it still feels fresh in my mind, 2021 just like yesterday when i came to this thread looking for advice about venturing into e-hailing, as usual majority of people here discouraged me about buying my manual car for the hustle, but luckily for me some positive minded people Like Cheerfugiver, pearl1910, deedee gave their opinion to me about the hustle, Cheerfugiver in particular called me with his own airtime to encourage me and helped me planned my scope of work and also when my Ac was the only thing holding me back from starting the hustle then, he offered to assist me financially if there is need (Reason he would forever be a Legend in my books).

so many challenges in the hustle i must say, at some point driving became boring and tiring.

I dont think anyone is planning to drive forever, at least not me, not even Cheerfugiver the chief ant driver (how do i know this, because we are in the same telegram group where we do most of the conversations).
now this is not white washing, I have met Cheerfugiver a couple of times, we ate suya together once at NTA ahmadu bello vi. the guy is so fresh u cant believe he's an uber driver based on how drivers have been stereotyped with weird looks.

back to my point, for many of us, driving is part time even though we invest a larger part of our time into it, like me now i have handwork which gives me alot of time to rest
reason why i ventured into this hustle so i can convert my excessive time to money.
needless of the comparison between e-hailing and 9-5 jobs, the best we can do is to drop experience here good or bad so that people can learn and help themselves, as this thread is not about 9-5.
I have stopped driving actively since April this year, except for some of my offline clients that pays above minimum wage for a single trip grin yes even though i am driving a manual car grin
I have now established my business(with capital that worth more than a tokumbo Corolla) and i am now an employer of labour, atleast I have a staff that earns monthly from me and i also subsidized the transportation fare weekly.
i wont attribute this win to e-hailing alone, but i must say it was a major player in helping me
achieve this.
let everyone do what works for them lets try to encourage the newbies instead complaining all the time.
so many things i want to say, but let me stop here as some people might have different opinions about my sincere post.

hopefully I would sign out officially with big earnings by December because that December surge ehn grin

Does she know that there are no availability of parts and personnels to repair?

Seeking a loan to venture in that is a high risk sha

It's just my opinion oh, from the little i know because of my dealings with Printers
you are very much correct

You should also have asked why Printers will rather outsource that purchase a signage machine.

There could be a reason.
just one repair could make one close down the business.
recently a friend of mine opened a printing press business, spent heavily, barely a month into the business rat entered one of the machines and urinated on a , causing damage.
long story short sha, the needs to be imported total expenses is capped around 7million

So, everyone that have oversped, have died?

See, there's nothing that cannot kill in this life, what you should know is, you can't always be careful when it comes to death...

I'm not justifying overspeeding here, but I'm only trying to reshape your mindset so you don't assume every car accident is as a result of overspeeding...

At what speed level do you categorize as overspeeding?
reading this made me realize that nairaland needs an update that allows people to dislike a post.

The connection for me in all these is the man should come out and say his part. I have read so many stories. Unless he has stopped driving and even with that all it takes for folks to go jungle justice on him is just to recognize him while going on his own. All these allegations can’t be heap on oneman and he stays mute.

On the flip side… how can they rape someone and social media becomes a place of awareness. The app company will be going down real quick if they don’t provide the driver. Seems like a lot of people has been victimize in life and they chose to remain silent for reasons best known to them.

Lastly sellers and car sellers that allow buyers go with plate number…. Make una deh watch well oo
The last paragraph can't be overemphasized

i do not believe all these allegations of yours, could have necessitated a enger to wrongfully or falsely accuse an individual of rape, robbery and attempted killing. The tweep can't be so dumb to make such false accusations, taking into consideration it's impending consequences.
At the bolded, This is very much possible without even touching the enger.....many of this riders are evil.

But the only difference in this case is that different people are sharing their experience with different dates, so it's likely to be true.

I will put in more effort, sacrifice and pay the price to achieve great fits and results, then I will be contented, satisfied and happy with the outcomes. Not be easy going, lazy, laid back, and chill and take whatever half measures I get and claim to be contented.

Don't mistake contentment with complacency my friend.
Contentment refers to being happy or having satisfaction in one’s current position while thriving to continuously improve. A content person is usually grateful for the moment while striving towards making tomorrow better. Generally, a content person is a happy person who is on track to achieving their long term goals.
While Complacency refers to being satisfied with the current position even when seeing the need for improvement but not making much attempt to improve. Complacency often connotes laziness. A complacent person will often not put their best into any job or task; they put the minimum efforts. Complacency hinders an individual from getting the best of their potentials or abilities.

Both of them have satisfaction and happiness inside sha... grin but let's evaluate ourselves and confirm which one we are really operating on; the difference is Selfishness or Selflessness.
You are not wrong.

No, d point is the attitude. Not saying we will drive Uber and build mansion in Ikoyi. I meant rich men don't have the attitude of "this small one I am getting is okay for me"
They are go-getters, they are people that will keep pushing, they are people that don't settle for less, they are people that keep searching for opportunities. Do u get? So in any role or stage of our lives, lets have the right attitude and mentality.
Contentment is the secret of happiness.
Some people just want to be happy.
