While the post did actually say a lot of truths, the statement of the reforms not being uncomfortable for the masses or that it is dealing with powerful elites, is very untrue.

Real socio-economic reforms and re-engineering should have started from the political elites.

For instance, scrap constituency and security votes. That would touch the political office holders more than the masses. Let the politicians also make sacrifices.

Go after the economic saboteurs... the subsidy and forex cabals. Let them pay for the damage they have caused the economy rather than taking a coward's route of shifting the burden on the masses because they are easier to manipulate.

Look at major contracts awarded under bat. In of financial volume, 75% are to his cronies.

The reality is that BAT is simply entrenching himself and cronies within the levers of political and economic power.

The refinery is no doubt a good investment and kudos should also be given to the various PDP istrations for creating the enabling opportunities that encouraged the investments right from 2002.

But the fact remains, has the refinery benefited the masses or the elites?

While it is very true that Dangote is in business to make money, the apc istration has not created the enabling socio-economic conditions for the masses to benefit, reasonably, from this laudable venture.

The exchange rate remains high, the price of PMS remains high and these two issues have had a significantly negative cummulative, cascading and choking effect on the masses.

People like Otedola, who have been institutionally, generationally, politically and i dare say, suspiciously, insulated from the long term negative consequences of the reforms, and even profit from it, cannot be a true measure of the success or otherwise of those reforms.

Bat, and indeed any government at the centre, need to be more people oriented in thier approach to governance and socio-economic development, beyond the pallative gestures and infrastructural contracts to cronies.

Aside cutting down government expenditure, the government must embrace and toe the same austerity path they have subjected the masses to.

Also, it must address the core of any nation that wants to develop, harnessing at least 80% of the natural resources. Nigeria is blessed with so much, and yet, the economic and political elites have cornered those resources to the detriment of the masses.

but ibos themselves called Peter obi a failure as governor, then y did he suddenly become a Messiah?

A messiah to who? You?

Was buhari a messiah when some people said he was the best option?

Even bat had previously described him as disaster. Why did buhari suddenly become BAT's messiah?

2027 is not about the Igbos. It is about kicking out terrible leaders at the centre.

Do not ethnicise the concerted efforts to kick bat out in 2027. Doing so plays right into his hands.

I have been saying the same thing for years.

The political class in Nigeria keep providing excuses for thier failure because they have institutionally and corruptly insulated themselves from the negative impacts of thier reforms.

Agbegbaorogboye:

Maybe those funds were shared among APC zombies instead of real Farmers
Take RIFAN for example. It did not exist until 2017 while AFAN that had existed since 2002 barely got a Kobo
RIFAN was APC zombies masquerading as rice Farmers

Exactly.

When sane Nigerians where pointing out this fraud, the apc chatter boxes were chanting rubbish.

Those same apc miscreants are the ones now ing bat despite the obvious disaster that the man is.

There will be problems because it has been politicised.

Any reform that the political elites are not also subjected to cannot work.

Bat embarks on policies that enrich his nest and those of his cronies. The ones that would positively impact on the masses but brings no benefit to him and his cronies are haphazardly done

It is laughable how the supposedly two most advanced ethnic nationalities in the territory of Nigeria have been reduced to dick measuring contests over frivolities.

The Igbos and Yorubas evolved, ethnically, politically and socially, independent of each other. This was most obvious in thier systems or styles of traditional istration.

Both styles had thier pros and cons.

I for one cannot understand why the masses in both ethnicities should allow the political class use them for vile purposes.

The Igbos should learn to focus on developing the East to the standards they desire and should also be more accommodating of non-Igbos as they have been accommodated in regions.

The Yorubas should realise that they would not be in power at the centre for ever, and as such, the ego trip should be toned down. That they are in power today does not make them superior to other ethnicities.

In what sense?

The only thing I give bat kudos for is the students' loans. It was a good policy regardless of the inherent challenges/issues.

Asides that, every other policy/reform has been ill-advised, incompetently implemented and/or designed to favour himself and cronies.

Bat has been an unmitigated disaster so far.
ivandragon: 5:47am On Jun 06
Lol...

More like the Nigeria of your dream where you are corruptly insulated from the negative consequences of BAT's terrible reforms, greed and incompetence.

Bat is in government for himself and cronies.

The reforms were an avenue to corner resources to himself.

Hmm...

$110m is about N176bn...

Governors collect an average of N2bn security votes monthly. That is N72bn every month, cumulative. Money that is not ed for and fuels corruption...

Why not sacrifice 3 months' security votes and use it to fund the agricultural projects?

Like I always say, bat is out to enrich himself and cronies. He tells Nigerians to endure hardship but ensures he and his cronies are well insulated from the negative consequences of the hardship...

You can always tell when someone is grasping at straws to justify an alignment into what they previously viewed as bad.

Toxicity exists both ways. I doubt any political movement can be as toxic as the apc in 2014 and now.

In 2014, apc dominated the social media space with unbridled toxicity. And even took it to the streets.

Post thier victory in 2015, they took it to new levels using ethnic racism with even the president and other appointed officials openly expressing racist views.
ivandragon: 5:41am On Jun 04
Gibberish. Same trashy justification used to defend buhari is been regurgitated.

Bat and his cronies are carrying out reckless reforms because they have institutionally and corruptly insulated themselves from the negative consequences of those reforms and have also positioned themselves to benefit from it.

Granted, fuel and forex subsidies had to be addressed, but the way and manner bat went about it is reckless. Rather than tackle the causes of the inefficiencies of the subsidies (saboteurs, bottle necks, corruption, security issues etc), bat chose a path that favoured himself and cronies while disguising it as necessary for the masses when himself knows he won't suffer from such poorly thoughtout reforms.

Look at the cases of constituency projects and security votes that take hundreds of billions of naira from the public till. Every sane Nigerian knows these are funds looted, spent recklessly and have little positive impact on the masses. So why didn't bat cancel them?

Bat is a terrible and self centred person.

The price of motor spirit and automotive gas oil may increase as the Federal Ministry of Works and House of Representatives push for the implementation and remittances of a 5 percent road charge to be factored into fuel and diesel prices.

This was disclosed at an investigative hearing of the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Monday in Abuja.

According to the Minister of State for Works, Mohammed Goroyo, there is an urgent need for the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority to implement the 5 percent road charge collection to address the funding deficit for the country’s maintenance of federal roads.

He noted that Nigeria needs N800 billion annually for road maintenance, but the budget allocated to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency had fallen short.

“FERMA requires an estimated N880bn annually for optimal road conditions. Budgetary allocations have consistently fallen short—N76.3bn in 2023 and N103.3bn in 2024, while N168.9bn was budgeted for 2025.

“The consequences of this are glaring—deteriorating road conditions, increased repair costs, and prolonged disruptions for commuters and businesses alike.

“Thus, the diligent implementation and timely remittance of the five percent charge are paramount,” he said.

On his part, Managing Director of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Chukwuemeka Abbasi disclosed that the template for deducting the road charge from the prices of petrol and diesel was never implemented by NMDPRA.

He explained that “the five percent charge, as enshrined in the FERMA Act, was designed to serve as a sustainable funding mechanism for road maintenance and rehabilitation. However, for years, FERMA has grappled with severe funding inadequacies, hampering its ability to maintain our vast road network effectively.”

Earlier, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas recalled that the House had on 19th March considered a motion at plenary revealing the non-implementation of remittance of the five percent charge on petroleum products meant for road maintenance under the FERMA Amendment Act, 2007.

The chairman of the committee, who doubles as the chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Francis Waive, clarified that the 5 percent road charge is not an attempt to increase the prices of petroleum products or to amend the law since it has been part of the law since 2007.

He noted that the purpose of the investigation was to address the anomalies existing through disobedience to existing laws, adding that the House will ensure that every law ed by the parliament is complied with both by individuals and agencies of government.

The development comes as Nigerians in the past weeks witnessed a drop in the prices of petrol.

Recently, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail outlets, Dangote Refinery, and its partners had slashed their retail prices of PMS to N875 and N895 per litre in Lagos and Abuja.

I don't get what apc thinks about governance...

Are they in government to increase the suffering of the masses or are they there to improve the socio-economic conditions of Nigerians?

Reforms must have a purpose beyond making more money available for cronies and the political elites.

You do not throw away the baby with the bath water.

For instance, all Nigerians know that constituency allowances are just avenues to siphon funds into the pockets of legislators, why didn't the government stop it?

Security votes have been abused and looted by governors, why didn't the government stop it?

Apc are just evil...

Tell me one tenure the masses haven't been suffering..... "The poor will always be amongst you" even the bible says so......tell me one sector in Nigeria that has gone moribund since tinubu came in it doing worse than right now than before......it's easy to point fingers subject to your political views but the fact remains fact......the rot in the Nigerian economy cannot be changed in just 2 years,u need several painstaking years of reforms.

For 8 years under buhari, you said this same story, so why do you now feel you somehow have sufficient knowledge to know Nigeria is headed in the right direction when for 8 years you ed its destruction?

You are just regurgitating a failed position.
