what was this womans achievement when she was in govt?,
compared to ngozi who is managing the finance ministry in GEJ govt?.
is she better than ngozi?

There is no need to compare her to Ngozi, but if she were to manage the finance ministry, she would excel. Her credentials are solid. Her experience is extensive. She is also a dogged fighther as she doesnt shy from battles. She is a strong woman!

thelastPope: When I first head Ms Oby's statement, I just laughed! Only in Nigeria do you find this kind of politics. You can hardly hear opposition parties make baseless and spurious claims like this in sane countries. How much does Nigeria make per Annum? Most Nigerians acually delude themselves to think Nigeria is a rich country with so much to spend. Nigeria is a poor country. Just compare your budget to the number of citizens and then compare to other countries and you will see how poor Nigeria is.
.
Oby is getting ready for politics and has to make a big entry so that is why she is making sensational statements. The reserve has never gone below $30 billion so her claims are outright false. But of course, I understand when the ACN/C crew jump on it. We know their goals. Those who love Nigeria will welcome criticisms, but from El Rufai to Ms Oby, it is a big joke!

@lastpope, as is often said, you can pretend for ever. Your true self is now revealing itself. instead of you to think and respond objectively, you spew out trash, symptomic of present day intellectually deficient nigerians.

Lets look at this on 2 fronts: (1) ability: Ezekwesili has asked for ing and stewardship information. All you need is to provide facts and figures that disprove her claim. (2) GEJ; Maku; Reno Omokri all rolled into one combined do not possess the level on Integrity this woman has. Go and read up on her history. For, at least, close to 25 years now, this woman has beeen attested to, even by her friends and foe that she is clean; upright; fair; just; equitable. and judging by her twitter response, she is extremely mature.

Hardfact: Clearing truly abandoned vehicles off the roads in itself is welcome. Yet "three days" ultimatum, usual govt firebrigade attitude is something else. Again I hope our overzealous officials wont tag and tow just any vehicle they see all in name of abandoned vehicles, while those who've sold their souls will continue to shut their minds to simple reasoning. Official pronouncements usually diff from what's happening on ground.

From experience of the last exercise, the occupants of the neighbourhood are the ones that usually inform govt of the abandoned vehicles constituting nuisance in their area as govt does not hv logistics to go around looking for such all over lagos.

Officers of govt will then come and place a big "Owner Removal Warning" sticker giving d owner 30 days after wich they then come and tow. The number of vehicles were so much then, that some vehicles were only towed after abt 6 months

Sagamite: The time given (3 days) is completely inappropriate.

Governments should make laws people can easily comply with.

How many towing companies and towing trucks are in Lagos? How many abandoned or immobile cars are on the streets of Lagos?

If all the towing trucks were utilised everyday, 24 hours a day (lets ignore the impossibility, considering security), will they be able to clear the cars?

I think not.

What if people are out of town now for a week?

A month notice would have been more appropriate.

Tolexander: The Federal Ministry of Aviation has inaugurated the first-ever private jet terminal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Terminals that individuals can build. Are people so ignorant not to know that there are half a dozen of such terminals in Lagos? Aero Contractors has one by GAT it was quite popular in the days of flying Dash-8 planes to Base in PH; Bristow Helicopters has one, those who have flown Bristow to Eket will tell you this by Agege Motor road. Shell has one, those who have flown Shell jet to Warri & PH will tell u. Caverton has 1 by MMIA; There is a Helicopter terminal at former Mogambo gardens @ Jesu Oyingbo in Maryland Lagos; Caverton has Heliport on Ozumba Mbadiwe Rd V.I.

No matter what, there will always be arguments for and against and either side will stick to their guns no matter what.

In our arguments; theories; postulations, etc, we should also consider the following (1) Budgeting i.e to Provide a forecast of revenues and expenditures. (2)ing/Stewardship of monies spent (3) Charging: Recovery of cost. Cost + (profit) or Cost- (loss) or Cost = (Breakeven)

Taking a look at the Special Duties perceived Humongous provision for Chop Chop should be placed alongside (1) How it is funded? from Loans; IGR;or Charging (2) Is the Chop Chop appropraite or needful? & (3) Importantly, do the Agencies under the Special duties earn more than enough to fund their budget?? From perual, there are about 6 of them that are serious income generators for LASG & ultimately for the benefit of all Lagosians. LASG makes a lot of Money from PPP; LAMATA; Number Plate printing as it going to make billions from producing new number plates between now and september by when all cars in nigeria must have changed to new number plates and unless i am corrected, it is only that LASG company that is producing number plates for FRSC.

Objectivity and a holistic approach to discussions will be appreciated

@lastpope, and you can defend this type of budget? I recall that u said you have abt 40+ pple in your employment, am not sure your budget wld look like Bauchi's

"The Bauchi State government budgeted N138.7 billion for 2012, an increase of about N21 billion over the amount in 2011. Yuguda intends to finance the 2012 budget with N69 billion from FAAC, a paltry N7.3 billion as IGR and another N58 billion as loans. In what should be a violation of any sound fiscal responsibility law, nearly 40% of the budget will be financed through borrowing for two years in a row. In 2011, Bauchi State’s domestic debt was about N91 billion, so by the end of the year, Bauchi would be in debt to the tune of some N150 billion. Public debt charges this year is some N6.3 billion and rising. It looks like Yuguda is determined to leave behind a debt-ridden, if not financially insolvent state!"

"Lagos state is one of the few in the country which has a well detailed and structured budget made available to the public on the state Government’s website which is fully functional. The budgets are properly explained and broken down by the MDAs with expenditures and revenues properly ed for. Also, the state posts its budget performance reviews online which indicates transparency and ability in governance. It is ironic that even with the enactment of freedom of information and fiscal responsibility acts, most State Governments still hide their budgets and breakdowns from the citizens of their states and the general public."

thelastPope: To say there is no budget for food and entertainment when there is food and entertainment expenses is actually an indictment on LASG. You cannot spend what is not budgeted for. Governance is a constitutional thing, not a personal things. The launch of the blue rail project last week saw a lot of people scrambling for food and refreshment. Someone even tried to suggest that it was the contractor that provided the refreshment! grin

That was a lot of money spent just in one event. To suggest that such monies are not budgeted for is to it that the LASG is being run like a private enterprise and maybe that is the case. Such amount of money cannot be called sundry expenses. That will mean the budget is not transparent and will also mean the house of assembly is not doing their job. Government, at all levels, have budget for everything down to the pen and pins used in the offices. @op. maybe someone will need to invoke the FOI to strutinise the budget. Most of those talking trash to you here have no knowledge of what is in the LASG budget. They are just paid sycophants and party thugs. You will get nothing from them so no need to engage them. They have neither seen nor read a copy of LASG budget document in their lives. grin

Among other things, the states also holds weekly state executive council meetings, host all sorts of guest on weekdays, etc

Note that feeding and refreshment are interchangeable.

Every state should have a budget that takes care of such refreshment. It may have been lumped together with other things but for the purpose of transparency and ability, it has to be de-lumped, if it was previously lumped together with other budget sub-heads, and DECLARED.

And after bn de-lumped, you will then ask for the cost of ingredients to be de-lumped as well. Please educate yourself here http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/subpage.php?k=1

I will address the above. I am not interested in your feelings of distrust as that will lead us no where.

The 8 cargo airports are not new airports but rather 8 existing airports have been earmarked as cargo airports. Today's documentary on AIT showed the warehouses and cold storage already being constructed as part of the airport renovation currently going on across the country. So get that straight.

I am totally against the 10 million phones project and I did say in my earlier post that the guest on the Money show gave both accolades and knocks to the FG on different issues and that was good. He did oppose the phone project.

I will not go into Dangote's issue. Business men are business men. they do business for profit and are always competitive and they all owe money, especially in advance countries like the US. so that is not an issue for me except they are caught in blatant corruption with evidence. So lets face the topic/. thanks

Our collective lack of interest is what is leading us nowhere in Nigeria and if not checked, it will grind the nation to a halt & in turn affect you & I except u already hv ports of other countries. A typical example was wen GEJ eliminated petrol scarcity 18-24months ago only for us to find out that we were bleeding to sustain it. The same applies to the so called Airport transformation projects tht humongous billions of naira hv bn earmarked & spent. We shld be interested in how much and how fair these projects are becos at the end of d day, we wld hv burnt a big hole in the national purse.

The reason i responded on Dangote is becos of this your comment in bracket (I have always been impressed by how this man, Dangote, has continued to invest in Nigeria despite all the talk of poor infrastructure and insecurity. He is probably the only truly patriotic Nigeria businessman out there today. If only we had like 10 Dangotes, Nigeria would have been transformed by now. ............... Imagine Danjuma made 500 million dollars from sale of his allocated oil block and shamelessly and disdanfully told Nigerians he didnt know what to do with the money! How about given out loans to small scale industries? The foool didnt even pay for the oil block) Dangote is no different. As Danjuma did not pay for the oil block allocated to him, so also Dangote for the economy hurting concessions that he has received over the years and you say u r impressed by him. Business and competition is not war that you bring a whole country to its knees. As we speak today, Dangote can cripple the Nigerian Stock Exchange & he is also NSE president. We need to put in place institutions that wont mortgage a nation to an individual or a group of individuals. Try it in civilised parts of the world and you end up in jail.

Farmers were given loans by the CBN and they have planted crops massively. They were even given fertilizers and other materials. They have already done one harvest and even lost produce due to lack of storage and evacuation facilities. Now, Dangote in of the project, has come to their rescue and is building a processing plant right in their midst to shore up their harvest and harness it into tomato paste and more and you are talking of materialization? I dont understand your tears honestly. Express don leave you go oh! Wake up dude! You could take advantage of it some how if you only stop and think instead of just criticizing on NL or you can go back to the Tonto Dike thread you came from, lol!

@Lastpope, i salute you o but unfortunately i find it hard to salute anything Dangote...if we started a topic on the business style of Dangote, we wld not leave here today, so let discuss Nigeria.

Is it not Dangote who entered into agreement wt FG thru BoI to create jobs and enterprenuership to cassava processors, aluminium artisans, poultry farmers, calabash carving groups, small traders, cattle rearing groups, vegetable sellers, market women, artisan groups etc, for which the money he is getting in loan is at 0% interest. Do all the ones listed above not exist, do we need a Dangote to create more? NO!!! what is the job of NDE, then? but he gets concessions that end up hurting the economy for many many of such schemes.

When SLS published Dangote as one of those owing money, what did Dangote do? He visited Aso Rock, and received import concessions from GEJ.....i.e loans paid off.
Pls, lets leave Dangote out of this. What we need is an enabling environment and life long institutions that allow anybody to setup industries anywhere in Nigeria. There is no hurray abt Dangote setting up a Tomato processing factory in Kano, but rather tears because Dangote does not set up anything without the govt; you & I paying for it. He does his own damage to the economy as much as importers do. Unholy concessions are given to him which makes competition in his favour. Are there institutions to ensure the farmers get value for their produce?

Have the farmers; poultry & animal husbandary owners who lost hundreds of millions of naira to violence in the north compensated in anyway?

You talk about building 8 cargo airports and cooling facilities by govt. A those projects are touted all to siphon money. Where is Gbenga Daniels' cargo airport after 8 years Their cars were all over Lagos at one time. All these projects are conduit pipes of corruption. The existing airports have plenty of space, build warehouses close to them or give serious pple land to build warehouses and cold rooms there. Lets stop putting carts before the house. Let me give u a solid example of pple wt vision & who put the horse b4 d cart as shld be. There is an existing railway line in lagos. Awolowo, built an industrial estate around the railway line called Ikeja Ind estate and built 24 drying and bagging Dome warehouses beside the railway line so that Cocoa beans cld be taken by train directly to Apapa port rather than by road. When cocoa biz died 4 obvious reasons, Guinness Nig Plc used the Domes as storage but are no longer using all of them, so they are now bn used in mushroom fashion. These warehouses are on Oba Akran/Ladipo Oluwole in Ikeja.

The Minister of Agric has done well, but you will begin to see how he will be rubbished soon as d politicians have started seeing his ministry as a place they can come up wt spurios projects in the name of transformation. (10 million phones in the hands of rural farmers is 10 million votes for PDP as you must vote for me in appreciation of the phobne i gave you. Text message bombardment)

Nigeria needs surgery.

Maxymilliano: NLC/TUC did not betrayed #occupynigeria# in whatever way, Omar, Esele and other of the NEC only did what was needful then and it was to call off the strike.

Situation report from most of the centers was that the protest has been hijacked by failed, disgruntled politicians especially at the active centers, which was not far from the truth.

The NEC was faced with either going ahead with the systematic shutting down of oil installations across the country to cripple the economy and spite the government or take same decision and play into the hands of the politicians.

NLC/TUC NEC were also availed informations on how some governors especially in the Opposition camp and few from the rank of PDP SECRETLY endorsed the idea of subsidy removal ab initio and the additional income it brings into their kitty but for political exigency, OPENLY denounced and criticized the FG.

This is why Peter Esele always tell anybody that cares to listen that it is not enough to just keep criticizing the government at the Federal level for subsidy removal investment, attention should also be shifted to the State governors who are part of the decision making from the outset and are benefiting massively from the subsidy disbursements.

None of the governors across the federation have openly rejected the monthly subsidy payment so far, and this tacitly corroborated the assertions by NLC/TUC on the occupy nigeria protest was being played directly or indirectly into the hands of politicians.

There are a number of interplay we do not understand when such things like Occupy Nigeria & NLC Strike occur.

(1) Occupy Nigeria, even though, the effect & outcome of it was not pre planned & expected, it served a number of purposes which unfortunately are not bn cashed in on. (a)It showed that Nigerians can take their destinies into their own hands if we so wish to do (b) It was not hijacked by opposition politicians because there was nothing new they said that we did not know already. (c)Occupy Nigeria ruffled the feathers of those in power and you cld tell by varying reactions e.g, Akpabio can out stammering on TV & accusing opposition politicians of buying food & pure water for the crowd. At d Ikoyi rally, people were volntarilly bringing food & drinks to share & to debunk the opposition leaders involvement, even Tinubu cld not dare show his face there as even his house in Ikoyi was picketed. Another e.g was Gov Fashola, had to tread cautiously in keeping law & order in his domain even though he ed d removal at Gov's forum becos they had all bn promised the subsidy money investment since before the increase. So, really, no govt in power was sure where the whole thing was headed. (d) It showed that we are not schooled in the strategy of organising and sustaining serious rallies. The organisers, in fear of loose of lives, announced that saturday and sunday will be days of rest wen they saw soldiers on the road & at ojota, that was wen they shld have intensified it as the world broadcasting stations were already beaming it live worldwide and Social media was also spreading it like wild fire, so that any atrocity commited wld have bn seen worldwide and GEJ wld hv bn cautioned by d superpowers but the conveners did not want to suffer any physical brutalisation & didnt want the blood of innocent protestors shed.

(2) NLC was just playing to the gallery & needed to come out to remain relevant as the voice of the people. The trust in them has so depleted that they cannot hold any successful strike again in the nearest future.

(3) Govt feels stronger from the outcome of the events leading to the calling off of the strike & feel they hv us pocketed

(4) The next Occupy Nigeria is not likely to be well organized as the likelihood of an eruption of emotions and spontaneous spilling out onto the streets might occur as people are thoroughly frustrated.

God help Nigeria

It seems as though this might happen! Gene shared photos of herself alongside her favorite girls! All five ladies were rocking pieces by her clothing line, St Genevieve.
Though she has not confirmed if this was for a photoshoot or aso ebi for an event, we have to say all ladies looked fab!

Check on it.

kangasomti: Some fools in this house are regularly depicting ignorant and imcompetent backside. I'm not supprised you could not read his interview.

Case in point, Emeka is making a valid point and as a patron, employee, stakeholder or whatever you wish to call him in the industry, he sure is in a better position to say it how it is. He is not a hungry man like most of you would suggest. He has successfully invested his money and comes shot of any unbiased conviction to typified the movie industry the way he did.

Some of you are regularly adrift of reality. The daft ones would soon say i'm his PR go ahead and express your foolishness.

Read inbetween the line people for he has made a valid point

Unfortunately, no tears for them in the so called Nollywood. It was never a sustainable enterprise as they never had proper structures in place. It was just an enterprise that provided quick and easy money to a very small group of producers and actors/actresses but as they lined their pockets, they didnt think it was neccessary to put a proper organisation in place, so mediocrity was the order of the day and no enterprise survives long term on mediocrity.

Nollywood was hyped up; They were ranking themselves wt Hollywood and Bollywood...Jokers!; Actors/Actresses were living expensively; Soft Cell magazines were magnifying them and their heads went on a spin unaware that a simply organised venture will bring them down like a pack of cards. (Reminds me of the 3 little pigs and the wolf)

Right now, its even more difficult for them to bounce back because the never had structures in place. If you doubt it, go look for a music track that came out abt 3 years ago titled "Waka ". It summarises legacy Nollywood. Sorry, RIP

thelastPope: This is the reason why people will continue to call all you ACN sychophants out. The level of propaganda you do is just shameful. While the rail project is a good project, the fact that you bring out one new thread every time half a meter of track is laid is just hillarious. The Abuja city light rail project has ed 50% completion with no noise or fanfare. If the abuja guys were doing the same propaganda as you ACN guys, NL will be filled with such stories by now. Orile-mile 2 is just 4 minutes drive by road. How is that a great achievement by train? Let the project continue and when it is done and Lagosians can enjoy it, then you can come here and spam us with your posts. For now, keep the spam down and stop announcing to us every track that is being laid. this is the standard you all always demand from the FG. If the FG where announcing every single step they take on NL, the NL servers would have crashed several times over. I will personally laud him if he can conclude a significant part of the rail line. For now, its all politics and noise making.

Even though its 4km, you cant imagine the number of vehicles it will take off the road during rush hour. The scenario will be people walking over from Marina to National Theatre to board the train to Mile 2 and then continue their journey from there until the Marina to Nat Theatre and Mile2 to Okoko lines are freed up

Sincere 9gerian: Very good development.
However based on this statement:

“This is what we do with the loan collected by the government. We don’t use our loan to pay salaries and other recurrent expenditure, what we do with our loan is to provide capital projects that would serve the residents"...Fashola

If this project is being executed with loan, what does the state govt do with N30billion monthly revenue?

But whether with loans or not, let the project (even if its just the first phase) be completed for the good of the people.

Am seriously hoping that this meeting did not take place anywhere within ASO Rock as that will amount to abuse of power; unauthourised use of public property and gross arrogance. We only just saw how abuse of public property led to a Navy Helicopter crashing. If there were any Senators in that BoT meeting, then, they are insincere hypocrites as they only just legislated against abuse of govt property. I wld have thot PDP wld have their party HQ where such a meeting can hold?
