Any day you throw in your £1k, it is accruing interest. If you only keep it there for one day on a 5% interest rate, it will theoretically accrue 5% divided by 365

The person with the lump sum who invested it immediately with just a 5% yearly return would be earning 250k yearly on top of his original 5mil.
