It must have taken a lot of nerve to talk about it to the media,I when Monique talked about her situation a few years ago and there were mixed feelings about it.If your own family doesn't want to hear it or wishes to keep it under wraps then go speak to someone else out there to get it off your chest
Freesia(f): 4:42am On Dec 20, 2011
It could be a mind set,You might always think you won't get on with them because they are not Nigerian.Out of 50+ countries in Africa and not even one that you have had a connection with??.
You must only be coming across the laid back ones,There is some LOUD,tough Africans out there that are not Nigerian lol

Mrs, Chima:

Some married couples doesn't have a choice if the spouse is in the military, travels with the government, traveling salesman, and in witness protection programs.

The circumstances surrounding the distance between the couple always has valid reasons like you have pointed out above, but could this distance over a longer period of time slow the growth in the r/ship or marriage
Freesia(f): 12:58am On Dec 20, 2011
What are your takes on this in regards to long distance relationships and long distance Marriages?? and I'm not just talking about your immediate needs being unmet but everything in general

Metalgoong:

If you read my post again, you will see that I used the phrase, "lesser feminist." I never said that going back to Nigeria to marry will guarantee one a solid marriage or that those girls living in Nigeria are saints. But the truth is that the ones living in Western nations are worse when it comes to marriage department. grin grin

I see where you are coming from now smiley, try and filter those feminist types you keep coming across, they seem to be attracted to you, as you are attracted to them.It might be time to change your criteria and look closely at the standards you have set for yourself

@ FREESIA: my dear i had to let go jare,  not entirely because of my parents preference for igbo guys but also because we had so much differences and i couldn't hold on.
i know my parents want the best for me, so i will try and bring an igbo brother home, hopefully i find one whose accent isnt so annoying {lol}
BUT IF NOT, i know at the end of the day, they will come around and accept my choice.
so my dear, if u feel u love some1, hold on to them regardless of tribe,

lol @ annoying accent,I feel you sis,my own was anoda matter altogether might tell it one day here on NL  grin.Hope you have happy holidays and remain prayerful.

nnemdi21:

freesia,

are u referring to the thread i made a while back?
about yoruba vs igbo?
jst wanted to be sure before i give u my honest response

Yes you got that right,It would be interesting to hear what you feel now compared to last year,a similar experience comes to mind when I saw your previous post
Freesia(f): 11:50pm On Dec 18, 2011
@ Nnemdi21 just wanted to know if your preferences have changed from the last time or will you make a choice that falls near what your parents expect from you for the sake of peace.
Reason I ask is because just like you I was stuck with my own choice and what my parents wanted which were two different things

Lasinoh:

We are dealing with a Yoruba lady here. The most subdued, brainwashed and domestically mutilated sets of females in Nigeria and outside Nigeria. Many of them suffer in silence because of overwhemling belief in religion mixed with jujumatics. Sooooooooooooooooo. . . . Nothing. . . absolutely NOTHING should be ruled out. We know our people! wink

Lasinoh let's see the bigger picture here but what you have said happens to many African women in the west not just the one tribe.
There are many women suffering domestic violence in the UK,U.S and other countries in the west let's rule the tribe factor out ,it could happen to any woman, sad but true
Freesia(f): 11:07pm On Dec 18, 2011
Nnemdi21 you have received very good advice from many on this forum,Just God's time is best and remain prayerful about the man you want in your life.

Metalgoong:

The main point is that most Naija guys living in the West usually dont marry Nigerian girls that were born in the West or presently living in the West. As you highlighted in your post, guymen would rather go back to his villlage and marry a girl who is a lesser feminist compared to what is obtainable from Nigeria girls living in Western nations like US, Canada and UK.

Not necessarily true,It's not guaranteed that because you went back home to get a bride your marriage will be a solid one.Keep an open mind there are some African girls raised in the west who are just as respectful and good. Same way there are some wayward ones back home
Freesia(f): 5:46am On Dec 18, 2011
I see Many of our brothers dating non Nigerian ladies all the time but when it comes down to marriage I will tell you this !! From London to Texas and in between, Most end up with Nigerian women.

I have seen quite a number of guys swear they shall have nothing to do with Naija women and after a number of years we are attending a Naija wedding with both parties being full blooded Nigerians.

When I asked one of my friends,he said his bad experiences was a thing of the past, he would now be settling  down with his girlfriend from Naija
A former workmate told me his parents warned him they will disown him if he brings home a foreign girl so he had no choice but had to marry a girl from his home town  grin
Well what can I say, our preferences and priorities change as we mature

MRbrownJAY:

@Sexkillz
a real playaz wont get caught because he will tell his woman that he is going to see some other biatch and his gf will be cool with it. that's the definition of a true PLAYA.

check DSK for example, thats the DEFINITION of a modern day playa. he married a billionaire lady, cheats on her day in and day out (not a month goes by without any "confirmed" accusation) and yet his wife stands by him through it all, and she has done that since the very first day.

THATS A PLAYA right there, and he has been caught MANY times but it doesnt change the outcome anyway because he has reprogrammed that woman's brain to ACCEPT whatever he may throw at her.

Help me out brother but hasn't DSK been "caught" numerous times?? He just happens to deny it all the time,Fact is he has been CAUGHT!!
A funny story I heard from a family friend who works at the HQ in DC was that when the incident happened,my friend went to work and many of his female colleagues were crying, many were very upset about the accusations.
I found it crazy that they were shedding tears for a person who is proud of his philandering ways,How bad can it get??

Suicide is alien to our culture.

Suicide knows NO culture,It has been happening in Africa too,People just don't want to believe that a perfectly normal person would take their life. People choose to ignore the root of the problem could be despair among other things!!

^^^^^^ yes we are all the same nija family living in the same area so I know what am saying her mum must not see all these,  And we all know this is not true but bad story spread really fast pls let's keep praying and hoping,  I will keep you posted,

I hope she is alive and well and will be home soon,it would be heartbreaking if her parents hear that somebody is spreading rumours that their daughter committed suicide if it's not the case

Especially when they felt they had mapped out all strategies! grin grin The guy in your story this morning, Imagine the look on his face! shocked For a moment, his brain will do a catwalk, a high jump and a back flip! Still the right words wont come! Imagine the look on his face! shocked That's what i call "momentary paralysis of the thinking faculties!"

In the end, players are actually what? Actually FOOLS!

You are right my brother,I'm laughing at the catwalk, highjump & backflip part.My boss is a wreck  about that situation but she says the look on his face in the middle of the store when they met was Priceless.!!
I believe the players are only playing themselves in the long run.A few good people will walk into your life and before you know it leave you and go to a person who will treat them better,so who is the loser here?

For everyone that cares to know all these are not true pls pray for her safe return,  I can't  wait to give her a warm hug when she returns back I believe some psyco guys abducted her. the police are being lazy and declared all these lies just cos they dont want to work, everyone is praying for her safe return and I can't wait to see her back pls pray she comes back home safe,
In America a lot of psyco people do crazy things for fun even if they don't know her,
abduction happens everyday even with kids that doesn't know anything,

Huh so she isn't dead? Who came up with this story about a girl jumping off a bridge.Hope we hear something accurate
Freesia(f): 12:19am On Dec 17, 2011
This is just a sad situation, some people hide their depression "well" I won't be surprised if none of her family noticed it.My condolences to her family

anonymous posted a thread on mistresses.
Some women just need someone to handle their stuff.  Married or not, if you fit the bill, no need for long tori.
Some women hope that a man would leave his wife for them.
Some women believe that the man isn't getting everything at home, so they provide what the man lacks.

Some women are no good on their own nor can they be on their own.  Believe they aren't complete without a partner or that it isn't right by a big part of society to be single, so they hold on regardless of unhappiness or violence or whatever.
Some women yes settle in, the comfort and believing they've gotten the best they can from what is available in their eyes.
Some women aren't so concerned so long as the man provides what she needs him to provide.

If he eventually leaves his woman and many don't end up doing it the r/ship isn't a blessed one so it's hardly a surprise if he finally leaves her
Freesia(f): 9:54am On Dec 16, 2011
Yep they sure do get caught,Some are mad they got caught cheating as they might have been getting away for soooo long
Freesia(f): 8:00am On Dec 16, 2011
Why some women continue to date a man after discovering that he has a wife or has a girlfriend is beyond me.My boss who is also a good friend has found her self in a messy triangle of some sort.
She has been dating this guy for about 6 years (they live together) she was shopping in Costco a few days ago when she saw her boyfriend with another woman.

what was more shocking is that he was supposed to be in Nigeria and she was expecting him this weekend. All she was able to ask  him was "so this is Naija" in their tribe, when she asked him who the other lady was he couldn't utter a word!!

This woman was about to walk away when my boss asked her where she was going, she looked at both of them, mumbled something about wahala and walked off
This dude had the nerve to say he had just landed. Silly thing he did was forget to remove the destination sticker  from his luggage before he got home,so my boss found out he actually left Nigeria over a week ago.

I have seen this happen a few times where some people keep staying in a r/ship (not a Marriage ) and they claim they are unhappy. Why not just walk away instead of making someone tag along with you .Could it be the comfort? As for the other lady why would she want to settle as the other woman, knowing he will be going home to his girlfriend.Women are each other's worst enemies sometimes

Thanks for the link Abagworo,Like someone mentioned above looks like clothes were really worn by royals, chiefs or priests.I'm obsessed with African history before the coming of the Europeans to the Motherland but unfortunately those people to tell us more have been gone  for years,Most of the info we get is based on or during the African revolution.

I would love to see more pre-colonial photos but I guess that would be difficult to come by as there were no cameras undecided

Is that his picture?? I have heard about him before, I'm not sure why I always assumed he was an elderly pastor of about 60+ years
