Honestly, there's no hiding place for terrorists. Israel's taking out more of them, and their ers were warned to expect a response, so they can't say they weren't told.
And let's be clear, no one should put innocent civilians blah blah blah propaganda here, especially after Hezbollah's ers were cheering about the attack on Israel the other day. Payback can be fun! 🇮🇱
Let the killings stop from both sides, sincerely I'm tired of seeing blood and dead people
The Israeli military has carried out a retaliatory strike in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
The target of the strike is believed to have been a senior Hezbollah military commander, Sky News understands.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) claimed the commander in the Iranian-backed group was "responsible for the murder of the children in Majdal Shams" - referring to the rocket attack on a football pitch in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that killed a dozen children and teenagers on Saturday.
Israel has blamed Hezbollah but the Lebanese militant group denied being responsible for the attack.
A Hezbollah official said the strike on Tuesday hit Beirut's southern suburb of Haret Hreik - the area around Hezbollah's Shura Council.
At least one person, a woman, has been killed in the strike, Lebanon's state-run National news agency and the Associated Press reported.
The fate of the commander reportedly targeted in the strike remains unknown, according to one security source.
Speaking from the scene, Sky News' special correspondent Alex Crawford said the suburb is a densely populated Hezbollah stronghold.
There is a fair amount of fire and a fair number of other buildings that have been impacted," Crawford said.
Wider war is not inevitable, US says
In the aftermath of the football pitch attack at the weekend, the US led a drive by diplomats to try and prevent Israel from retaliating.
The White House reiterated its position on Tuesday, saying that it does not believe war between Hezbollah and Israel is inevitable.
Meanwhile, Russia said the strike on Lebanon is a "flagrant violation of international law," Russian news agency Tass reported.
Iran also said it strongly condemned the strike, calling it "sinful and cowardly Israeli aggression".
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed heavy retaliation against the Hezbollah at the weekend.
The office of Mr Netanyahu did not immediately respond after the strike on Tuesday, but within minutes, a photo of the prime minister with his national security adviser and other officials was released.
Speaking about Hezbollah's denial over the Golan Heights attack, Crawford said it is "out of kilter" for the armed group to not take responsibility for an attack, even if it had made a mistake.
"This is the tinderbox situation, which could explode into regional war," Crawford said, adding: "No one is taking any guesses right now over whether that is going to be able to be contained."
Mr president to the best of my knowledge never campaigned as a magician he campaigned as a statesman. He campaigned on the basis of renewed hope. When you want to reprocess a system that has been down you need a bit of time''

At least 15 children and eight women were among the 31 Palestinians killed in an Israeli air strike on the Khadija School in Deir al Balah in central Gaza, the government media office has said.
Earlier, the Gaza government media office said on Saturday that 31 Palestinians, including children, were killed and 100 others injured when Israeli warplanes struck the school, which also served as a field hospital.
In a statement, the media office stated that three missiles hit a facility sheltering thousands of displaced people.
The Israeli military itted earlier Saturday to targeting the school, claiming it housed a Hamas command centre, according to a statement from army spokesperson Avichay Adraee.
Hamas condemned the strike, asserting that the school housed "displaced innocent civilians, mostly women and children."
Throughout the war, the Israeli military has urged Palestinians to move to these so-called humanitarian zones. Still, these areas have also been attacked, drawing condemnation from international organisations and governments.

The UK government has dropped plans to challenge the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In May, the chief prosecutor of the ICC said there were reasonable grounds to believe that Mr Netanyahu bore criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The previous Conservative UK government had indicated it planned to make a submission to the court, but had not done so before the election.
Now, a spokesperson for the new Labour government has said it will not be making a submission, saying it is "a matter for the court
A spokesperson for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: "I think you would note that the courts have already received a number of submissions on either side, so they are well seized of the arguments to make their independent determinations."
In addition to Benjamin Netanyahu, the ICC's chief prosecutor is also seeking arrest warrants for Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif, and Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
Should the ICC proceed with the arrest warrants, the possibility could arise that Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant would be asked not to set foot on British soil, to avoid being arrested by the UK authorities
The court has already authorised 70 similar submissions from other countries on the subject and is currently working through them.
Prof Yuval Shany, an expert on international law at Jerusalem’s Hebrew University, predicts it will take until the autumn for the court to look at all the submissions and give the prosecutor time to respond if necessary.
Asked if the UK's decision would make any difference, he said: “Of course, the fact that a major country such as the UK has decided in the end not to submit is something that the judges will take note of.
“But the court still has to undertake the legal analysis regarding the questions that the previous [UK] government wanted to raise.”
He says the decision gives an indication of how the UK would react if the ICC were to issue arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and his defence minister Yoav Gallant.
“It would be difficult for the UK government, after deferring to the court… to simply shirk off and say I’m not going to implement it.”
A key issue at stake is whether the ICC can exercise jurisdiction over Israeli nationals, in circumstances where the Palestinian Authority can not exercise criminal jurisdiction over Israeli nationals under the of the Oslo Accords - a peace agreement in 1993.
In 2021, one of three ICC judges ruled the court could not exercise jurisdiction over Israelis, while two others ruled that this could be decided at a later stage.
Ahead of the UK's announcement, media outlets in Israel quoted a senior official as saying such a UK decision not to make a submission would be "fundamentally wrong", adding that it “distorts justice and truth, and violates the right of all democracies to fight terrorism".
Sacha Deshmukh, Amnesty International UK's chief executive, welcomed the UK's decision, calling the previous government's plan "totally misguided".
"Instead of trying to thwart the ICC's much-needed Palestine investigation, the UK should be backing efforts to bring all perpetrators of war crimes and possible genocide to justice."
The war in Gaza has proved to be politically tricky for Labour, with its stance upsetting many of its traditional ers, particularly in the Muslim community.
In the recent general election, shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth lost his Leicester South seat to a strongly pro-Gaza candidate, while other senior party figures including Wes Streeting and Jess Phillips saw their majorities slashed.
Last week the government announced it was restoring funding to Unrwa, the UN's agency for Palestinian refugees.
The UK had previously halted donations after Israel alleged 12 Unrwa staff were involved in the October 2023 attacks by Hamas.
An internal UN investigation into allegations related to that attack is ongoing.
But a separate UN review, published in April, found Israel had not provided evidence for its claims hundreds of Unrwa staff were of terror groups.
