[b]Akpabio seeks N80bn additional loan
April 18, 2013 by Etim Ekpimah Leave a Comment

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio , is seeking an additional loan of N80bn after the N50bn he collected in February when he paid a courtesy visit to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
A reliable source in the AKHA, who was not happy with the development, said the House was appalled by the letter seeking approval for an additional loan.
He stated that the state government collects over N30bn a month from the Federation , yet the ministries are starved of funds.
He said, “The former loan of N50bn the governor collected in February when he paid a courtesy visit to the House of Assembly had been wasted unjustifiably.
“We have over N30bn a month from the Federation ; yet he collected N50bn and spent it lavishly outside the state.”
Against the assertion by the governor that the House had provided N10bn for wastage, the source retorted that the House has never provided any money to be wasted on frivolity.
“That was wrong information. The House has never appropriated any money for him to waste, not to talk about N10bn as he said.
“Every ministry is complaining of starvation; Akpabio is not giving them money to run the affairs of the ministries.
“The money he refused to release to the ministries is the one he is using to lavish on people outside the state,” he said.
He averred that it was too early for the governor to start seeking loans from the first quarter of the year. He noted that the development portrays the state as not doing well.
In January 14, 2013 the governor assented to an appropriation bill of N470.08bn as ed by the state House of Assembly for the year.

Gbawe:

It is indeed your opinion and you are entitled to it. Yet, it is an opinion, inspected in the light of brutal logic and the Nigerian reality, that is flatly wrong. We all hanker after "youth in leadership" with realising that it is our innate prejudice that make us blind to the obvious i.e "youth in leadership" has happened and has been soundly discredited as one more touted panacea to our woes that has, in reality, not turned out to be valid.

Has youth not already had a chance? Bankole, Yar Adua and GEJ can all be deemed relatively young. How old are most Nigerian Governors? What other type of 'youth' are you then looking for and what level have they not reached? Has the experiment with 'youth' and a "departure from the past" , in the form of Yar Adua and GEJ, not shown Nigerians that it is time for us to stop discriminating and time for us to simply look, as is done successfully elsewhere, at the history, achievement and lifestyle of those who want to lead us?

Right on point, Ibori included

You, sir, are a confirmed buffoon. What project did that useless man Attah complete? Do you even have any freaking idea the level of under-development after Attah 8-year tenure? The only access road to Uyo from Abak was filled with so many potholes......sorry, fishponds, that it took a day longer period to drive down to the capital. Outside the capitall the Abak-ikot ekpene wasn't only filled with potholes, but almost cut in half by erosion. And Etim Kpo road? Well, let's just say it wouldve damaged a good SUV. Even the Le Meridiene wasn't even completed by Attah, but Akpabio. So don't you dare come here and spill trash about Akpabio, a man who who basically lifted a state from its former village-status to one of Nigeria's best destinations.
I believe you are one of his kidnappers

CFCfan: @Warri_Pikin: the Uyo Olympic stadium CANNOT host a FIFA World cup match. The minimum capacity for a world cup stadium is 40,000; the Uyo stadium will have a capacity of 30,000.
If so, this shows the ignorance of the Governor, how can he built a new stadium of 30k capacity instead of 40k capacity

It is better you stop living in the past mr., this is 2013 and Akwa Ibom has left that level long time ago. It is obvious that you haven't visited Aks to see the level private investments springing up due to the hurricane-like transformation in infrastructure in the state.

Be specific, what do you call private investment, stealing money and building a big house that you can't even rent out, since it is like hurricane, Name just 5

Dont mention Anambra and that state on same sentence again. States get levels.

@ The topic: I can only say WOW to the roads and beauty!!!!

This is what development in infrastructure is about. This roads can only be compared to Abuja roads..simple.

But the gov is not meeting up on the areas of human capital development, health, education. An average Ibom man is still very poor and living below 20 dollars per day. An average Ibom man is still my gateman, an average Ibom girl is still my cook.

All in all Akpabio has done well above average ..I score him 55%. The next governor will take up the touch where he stopped in 2015.

Well said .I was looking at people to see things this way rather than call empty library world class. Uyo has tried but could have been better Simple

CFCfan: The Ibom Airport international terminal is being designed to handle 1.5 million engers per year/750 per hour during peak periods. The terminal will have 4 'fingers'(jet bridges) which will be connected to six planes; one of the fingers will be used solely for an A380 aircraft.
The terminal costs N18.06 billion, and is due to be completed by the middle of next year.

As usual big english, when will this peak period be (xmas) and how will you get 1.5 million engers. all this is just fraudulent figures. If you have 2000 people a day using the airport , you looking at about 700,000 people in a year. An average flight to Uyo takes about 120 people.given that we have 5 flight landing and 5 going, that is about 1200 people a day. you guys should wake up

rozayx5: My observations on this thread, I live in Akwa Ibom so I am not typing hearsay here.

1. i see a group of jealous people here

2. i see some people comparing a new born baby town to a Metropolis - you cant compare Uyo and Lagos, Uyo is trying its best , Lagos has been developing since the 18** and even if fashola does nothing who will know,

3. i see some Akpabio haterz - Akpabio is trying in infrastructure, some people here are talking about Developments outside Uyo, there are too many i cant mention, Abak - Ikot Ekpene road, Abak Housing Estate, Complete tarring of roads and street in Ikot Abasi, renovation of 90% or primary schools in the State, and so on. I saw some one say Akpabio would have built houses for all the poor in the State, when his wife did that for Widows we did not hear it here, there are homeless people in the USA, so let me hear word

where Akpabio needs to work on as of now is JOb creation, through building of more industries

4. Uyo is a beautiful City you come around and see for yourself, i Live in Ikot Abasi and frequent Uyo for Business (we have light 24/7 in Ikot Abasi so if you need 24hrs light your welcome

uncompleted and nearing completion include - The Stadium(berger), the Worldclass Hospital (gitto), the Oruk Anam Major feeder Rd, and so many which should be completed this year and 2014

PROUDLY AKWA IBOMITE

Friend world class Hospital, where will the world class nurses and doctors come from? in Ikot Abasi the light is provided by alcon

OYA HATERS ITS TIME TO FALL DOWN AND DIE! grin grin

This is the stupidity rampant in our society, Army has thier budget to take care of that, what business has Godswill to do with this other than bribing the army indirectly and you are here feeling good. That money should have been used to built house for the poor

Your state is gradually being developed to a world class metropolitan. Rome was not built in a day. The quality of the construction works in Akwa Ibom State is highly commendable.

nijanigga: Based on the comments I read so far, you see why Nigerians are taken for a ride.Nobody ever ask the question how long can you sustain these fake publicity, what's the purchasing power of average Nigerian, can we have pics of some villages say 50Km from Uyo ? A house built on sand will be washed away . Some dimwits will start praising akpabio. Arrant nonsense, with the level of corruption in Nigeria and "mumu" followers Nigeria will never be great.

you are right, Nigeria can not go anywhere. At todays age , we have someone like 'Oga at top' being a commisioner in Lagos, I bet he is even wiser than some police commissioners in Nigeria.Look at the new railway that we just lunched in Nigeria, damn. as far as I am concern , Nigeria is in a a reverse.

Am not anti Akpabio , I just get worried about black people and the way we abuse ourselves. If we keep on having 50 - 50 mentality , there is no hope. much can be done in our society than what we are saying here. I have worked and traveled much and I see what little money can do.
Botswana, sudan ,and many more countries are really trying in their infrastructures and I expect us in Nigeria to lead the way in africa.!!thats all!!!.I dont have business with politics in Nigeria please but I just pray we should wisen up
