Hello Everyone,

My mother was recently denied a visiting visa due to a lack of strong home ties. She is over 60 years old and has never traveled outside the country. I am currently a permanent resident and stated in the application that I would be sponsoring her trip. She is a businesswoman who runs a wholesale flour business. However, during her interview, she mentioned that they did not ask to see any of her ing documents.

How can we better demonstrate her strong ties to home in her next application?

Hello.
All the answers you have gotten so far are indirectly correct but Deborah is near the consular minds.

Senior citizens in certain ages going to America are believed to have few medical issues, difficult to control by their children , might want to stay longer with grand kids etc thus given them the natural inclinations to over-stay.

Nevertheless, they still have more visa success rates behind F1 visa applicants but some circumstances like yours as a PR might give the consular the impression that you have every capability to retain your mum with you upon arrival.

**** The solution is for Mama to prove good ties to Nigeria eg ongoing activities, other children's, businesses, pension money she is expecting or receiving, and nationalism towards Nigeria. You will depict most of these things in her ds-160 and she will communicate the rest verbally to the visa officer. πŸ‘

Hello everyone, I have a question and would really appreciate your guidance.

I recently applied for a U.S. Business Visa to attend a fully sponsored conference I was invited to. However, I haven’t been able to secure an interview date yet.

At the same time, I’ll be traveling to the UK early next month for another program. I’m wondering β€” is it possible to transfer or use the same visa application (and fee) to schedule an interview at the U.S. Embassy in the UK instead, since I’ll be there during the intended travel period for the U.S. event?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hello.
I like your money management idea but unfortunately you will have to pay another visa fee and apply for a B1 visa as a 3rd country national from the UK. Also note that you will face UK visa appointment waiting time for TCN.

You cannot transfer non immigrant visa appointment from one country to another (ie Lagos to Accra or Abuja to Scotland) but you can only transfer Immigrant Visa Application Case with some very very convincing reasons.

** Go to your UK and come back for your interview. Home is the best to apply for U.S. visa. You should be qualify for Emergency Appointment Request under Business. πŸ‘

Hi, thanks for your reply. But the issue is that there are no dates available in both Lagos and Abuja. I have to get a first appointment date before rescheduling or requesting for an expedited appointment. I can’t even navigate beyond the month of June.

***

There are 2026 dates in Abuja. Nonetheless keep checking or waiting as someone as suggested. Nigeria is not listed amongst the watchlist so the new development doesn't affect us. Even the watchlist nations can still have some genuine visa applicants interviewed.

What you are experiencing has been occurring since the introduction of AVITS. It's their gimmick to clear backlogs of visa applicants and control (esp Lagos) visa post population. πŸ‘

Good morning, please how do I go about getting a visa appointment date as soon as possible? I have paid the required fee of $185 since 3rd week of May but I’m still unable to book an appointment on the Avits website. It keeps saying no appointment available here in Lagos. Please I need help on this urgently my school resumption date is in August.

Hello.
There are 2026 appointments in Abuja. If you don't mind. The natural thing for you to do is to pick Abuja first (any year) as an F1 visa applicant and keep manoeuvring for nearer dates with your 5x (times) rescheduling options.

If reschedule does not yield result you will then use your last joker (expedite appointment request) which i believe is going to be approved to you.

** Another thing we should not overlook is the rules. You must have filled your ds-160 completely and submitted, have paid your SEVIS fee, as well as date-g your I-20.. Every visa applicant is qualified but they use the rules to judge you as everyone cannot be given the visa.

If you want to keep waiting on Lagos without choosing any date (Abuja) first you may need to defer your ission. U.S. embassy is using wisdom in selecting Lagos applicants because the population of Lagos visa applicants is too much. πŸ‘

Hello Yerima.
Yes emergency appointment is possible for all F1 visa applicants providing that you have done the needful ie SEVIS fee paid, I-20 date and sign, ds-160 completely filled and submitted.

** Yes you will be approved. It's the birth right of all F1 visa applicants if you have done the above needful.
Note: You must be a 1st timer or you were denied 7 months ago. πŸ‘

Please I want to know if it’s only me experiencing this, but I am unable to select date on the Avits portal for Lagos, it just shows June 2025 and cannot proceed to other months, even other years not showing / selectable. How do I resolve pls

Morning.
It's general for B1/B2 and there is no way to resolve it other than waiting or keep checking until they release Lagos dates. People applying for visas are much, staffs are busy so it's a waiting tactics.

** There is however April 2026 in Abuja which you can pick first if you have not gotten any date at all (and change back later) . You can use the last resort of expedite appointment request by first picking any date if you qualify. πŸ‘

Hello, please i need help or guidance
My sister and family applied for B2 visa and have an interview date for August, and they had a baby in April, they are trying to add their newborn to the application, is there a way to do that?

Hello.
Yes but it's a dicey situation*
If you have gotten a travel port for the baby the principal applicant should go to his or her avits profile and click on " Create New " to initiate the baby's appointment letter. Prior to this, you must have completed a ds-160 form for the baby and then continue with the create new in order to generate 1st bank mrv payment slip for the new born. Once the payment is confirmed they will open his or her appointment calendar.

Note: The dicey situation is your ability to secure an August date at this eleventh hour and I don't think that your B2 qualifies for expedite appointment.

Why not wait till you secure your visas and use the parents visa copies to apply for the baby ? πŸ‘

Good afternoon, everyone.

Please I have a question regarding DS-160 application form. After filling the form, I saved them on my phone, but unfortunately, some parts of it were not properly saved. Although, I can most of the things I filled there. Also, I only added my LinkedIn and Instagram handle to the social media section.

In light of the new development regarding social media scrutiny, is it advisable I fill another one to include my Twitter and Facebook handles and that would also help me to meticulously save it this time around, or should I just leave it like that? Does filling another DS 160 form has any negative effect on one's application?

Thank you very much.

Hello Lanre.
If you feel the need to fill another ds-160 based on the fact that you want to add an important update about your profile you may go ahead. You can fill as many ds 160s as you want but your final pick must be updated to align with your visa appointment letter via your avits profile.

I don't think the U.S embassy has compulsory the use of social media for all visa applicants therefore, visa applicants who doesn't use social media at all will still have a successful visa process.

If you have anything you want the U.S embassy to see in your Twitter and Facebook s you can add it in your new ds-160. πŸ‘

Please I have an interview coming up in a few weeks, and I'm filling a new form because the old one i submitted needs to be updated. But this new one shows an expiration date. Does this mean this form is no longer valid?

Hello.
Any DS-160 application form that you are able to retrieved and edit for final submission is not old or expired. The lifetime duration of the ds-160 starts the day you submit it finally. The only thing to note is that you must submit it with a very recent port photo.

Continue with the one shown but if it's given you headache you are free to go and start a new one afresh. You can abandon as many ds-160s as you want. The finally submitted one taken to the embassy is the only one that will count. πŸ‘

The course i applied to is MSC. Cybersecurity in a University(US)

Both my husband and child were included in my i-20. Complete sponsorship by my husband and we selected family sponsorship. We are using investment he made which credited to my and the deficit is also in his . We have the certificate of investment.

I have a sibling in US and he is legally there. Also, i was denied Canadian visa a couple of months ago due to the agent mistake in not including the US visa denial, i had 15 years ago.

Please, i need advise on how to proceed on this and the documents that might be important to present for the interview as i have a scheduled date already.
Thank you.

Hello.
Both you and your husband have some better academic and work profiles but the U.S. embassy doesn't respect anybody when it comes to abiding to the rule of entries (visa) because you are already making some foundational error.

*** Your U.S visa denial of 15 years ago must always be put into affirmative, for example, if they asked you in 100 years to come have you been denied a U.S. visa b4 the answer is yes. Hence the Canadian High Commission rejected your visa (perhaps after investigating your U.S. visa denial) based on misrepresentation.

*** Coming back to USA your family visa is now facing a double whammy because the Canada visa denial is another brick wall to jump. ** The summary of this aspect is that you have already been annotated as an immigrant intent who is eager to enter North America (US/Canada) by all means.

*** In of F1 visa application rudiments, an Msc F1 visa applicant is not even supposed to apply at a go with his or her whole nuclear family because those are your first and most important ties . Had it been that you are a Phd applicant whose duration of studentship can take longer years than expected then you would have gained a nod in taking your family along.

Having analyzed your application profile which i am rating 35/100%. The number one tool for you to gain coin is how well you have filled your visa applications (ds-160s). And the number two tool is how well you will communicate your case with the visa officer (esp the principal applicant). The 3rd major hurdle to jump is how do you proof abstract ties to Nigeria as all the nuclear - family are now going over ?

Good evening,
I have a few questions as regards B1/B2 visa
My mum wants to come for my graduation in December. She most likely will be in the US for 1 month. On her DS-160, should I fill 1 month or 2 weeks for her visit?

In the aspect of have you made any specific travel plans, I chose "no", is that fine or should I change it to yes... If they ask her where she will be staying, should she say that she will be staying with me or she will be staying in a hotel for that duration?

Also, I've filled out her DS-160 form but there is not any specific place that says where she will explain the purpose of her visit. So, how do I go about that or is there something I am missing out?

Hello Roseline.

YOU.
Good evening,
I have a few questions as regards B1/B2 visa
My mum wants to come for my graduation in December. She most likely will be in the US for 1 month. On her DS-160, should I fill 1 month or 2 weeks for her visit?

*** This is the foundation for future honesty. Fill 1 month since that's her likely duration of stay.

YOU.
In the aspect of have you made any specific travel plans, I chose "no", is that fine or should I change it to yes..

*** Embassy recommends that you should not commit a lot towards your planned travel since your visa is not guaranteed. So, your answer is no. Choosing yes will also not affect anything.

YOU.
If they ask her where she will be staying, should she say that she will be staying with me or she will be staying in a hotel for that duration?

*** If you are not living on-campus or anywhere where the presence of your mum might cause discomfort for others or anyone then you do not need to book an hotel.

YOU.
Also, I've filled out her DS-160 form but there is not any specific place that says where she will explain the purpose of her visit. So, how do I go about that or is there something I am missing out?

*** There are two places which asked for that question but it was asked indirectly. Number one is : Your U.S. (fill your info there). Number two : Do you have any other places you planned to visit ? Also write your address etc there. By that, your mum has indcated her purpose of visit. *** Mind you the visa officer will also ask her verbally. πŸ‘

Hello thank you for your response. I am confused though with your response.
I am a Dalai Lama fellow which is quite a prestigious one. It’s hosted by university of Virginia. And yes learnings from this fellowship will drive positive change in my society. I am tadbit confused with your reference on my DS160. Indeed in retrospect I feel like I wasn’t ready verbally, but I want to do better that’s why I am here.

Hello.

Nothing is too special or prestigious about being a Dalai Lama fellow . It is just like being a Nelson Mandela or Abraham Lincoln fellow otherwise your visa would have been automatic.

The fellowship is open to all humanity in everywhere in the world. For example here is one of their Year 2025 applications.

https://www.dalailamafellows.com/apply#dl-fellowship

I am not disreputing your hip but I am trying to say that if your purpose of going is not well established it won't have any meaning to the U.S. embassy. Again, i cannot give accurate corrections to your kind of situation without knowing some of your backgrounds. People hide lots of things when asking questions. πŸ‘

Hello good people:
Please I need your help πŸ™πŸ»
My B1/b2 visa was denied yesterday on the grounds of 214b.
For context, I got a fellowship and scheduled to attend a 1 week leadership training in America after which I am to come back and continue with work.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT
VO- why do you wanna go to the US
Me: to attend a leadership training at newyork. One of the 20 young change makers selected for this.
VO: have you attended trainings like this before
Me: I goofed. I continued tapping about this particular training ( 😞I was overwhelmed with nerves)
VO: How much do you earn
Me: I answered and gave him my payslip and bank statement which he looked at.
VO: have you traveled before
Me: I listed the countries and he checked my port for the visas et al.
VO: are you married, do you stay alone and do you own the property where you stay
Me: no. Yes and I rent the property, on a 3 years lease.

Long story short I was rejected. I WANT TO REAPPLY LIKE TODAY BECAUSE WHAT I AM GOING FOR IS VERY GOOD FOR MY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. I DO HAVE A GOOD LIFE HERE IN NIGERIA, but I guess I wasn’t able to articulate myself properly.

So my question is DO I HAVE A CHANCE IF I REAPPLY IMMEDIATELY because the conference is 1 month away and what can I do differently?

Hello.

YOU.
For context, I got a fellowship and scheduled to attend a 1 week leadership training in America after which I am to come back and continue with work.

*** There are thousands of fellowships in America and they have ratings and accreditations. Individual beneficiaries outside of america must also proof some feats. For example you cannot compare Havard or Cambridge fellowships to NAMTA fellowship. There re also medical fellowships etc. Therefore, your B1 visa application based on fellowship is subject to rigorous vetting.

YOU.

***. I Caught you openly here, and i also want to opine that this is one of the reasons the consular denied you. Fine Fellowships are short term learning opportunities that will help you in developing yourself as a leader but its not for Personal aggrandizement. It should equip you with knowledge and the necessary practical experiences to drive positive changes in your society.. So are you driving yourself or your employer or other social organisation is driving you in order for you to yield a positive return ?

YOU.
So my question is DO I HAVE A CHANCE IF I REAPPLY IMMEDIATELY because the conference is 1 month away and what can I do differently?

*** Aside of the fact that you were not prepared verbally, this question also begs us to go back to your ds-160 which the consular has used against you. Prior to that time, everyone will only be striving after the wind. πŸ‘

Good evening house!

I applied for B1/B2 non- immigrant visa in March 2025( she tried dropbox for renewal but was not successful) for my mom to visit my sister in the US who gave birth last year December for Omugwo and was scheduled for an interview in October 2025.

While waiting for her appointment date she underwent another surgery on her eyes ( this will be the 4th time). All surgeries done in Nigeria. We decided she seek another opinion leading us to apply for expedited (emergency) using medical reasons to get a closer date.

ed necessary documents and a closer date was scheduled for today 3/6/2025 which was unfortunately denied.

She has been to the US twice

The visa officer only asked her if she was in the US last year and a year before and the duration for her stay which was 2months and 5months respectively.

We want to reapply again
1) How do we show/prove strong ties back home
2) We are asked to not to repeat what we filled in the original ds-160 form when filling a new one. What do we fill now?
3) Can we still go through the medical route(b2) because she still needs medical attention and a closer date
Thanks in anticipation πŸ™

Hello Latti.

YOU.
I applied for B1/B2 non- immigrant visa in March 2025( she tried dropbox for renewal but was not successful) for my mom to visit my sister in the US who gave birth last year December for Omugwo and was scheduled for an interview in October 2025.

*** Mom's previous B2 visas were very probably abused , hence her inability to qualify for IW (interview waiver) in order to give the consulars the opportunity to ask her some personal questions. Its not all over, she might just be warned in this 3rd attempt to stick to her visa or travel itinerary.

YOU.
While waiting for her appointment date she underwent another surgery on her eyes ( this will be the 4th time). All surgeries done in Nigeria. We decided she seek another opinion leading us to apply for expedited (emergency) using medical reasons to get a closer date.

*** This is a true opportunity to turn the story from ordinary B2 tourism to Medical visit or check up but you did not take it from the foundation. You took it from the upper storey hence her expedite emergency request (under medical ) denial.

*** Keep all her Nigeria medical bills and operation histories. Let a Nigerian doctor recommend your mom for outside (america) surgery and find a U.S.
optometrist who is willing to treat mama.

****. Fill another ds-160 based on medical visit, mention the american doctor and you must have made some concrete contract with the doctor with printed evidences.

*** You will use the printed evidences and others to secure your mom's new emergency appointment request which i am certain would be granted if done with the guidelines.

NOTE: Teach your mom to be honest with the consular about her past U.S. visits, and indicate that this 3rd visit is absolutely for medical purpose & that because she doesn't want to lose her sight. If you are deligent with the whole application mama should have another better chance.. πŸ‘

Hello.

Even if you have had a BA in Igbo language and works as an operation manager no consular officer will query you on that. Going through University alone have made you qualified to work in all fields.

Hello Talia.

YOU
So I went to Canada and came back. I want to know what documents to take along apart from the DS 160 confirmation page , appointment confirmation letter, visa payment receipt and port photograph.

Despite the fact that consular officers rarely check documents nowadays i will still recommed you equip yourself in order to avoid 221g. The next relevant documents to take along is your POF (bank statement) and evidence of where to stay. ** You do not need letter of introduction from work, and the better way to proof home ties is in your visa application...ds-160 and verbally with the consular.

YOU
I am also travelling next week. Can I ask them if I can hold on to my port cause I don’t think they’d return it to me in time for the next trip.

You cannot book down or reserve a U.S. approved visa to be issue to you in a future date. If you hold on to your port after the visa interview where will the consulate stamp your visa ? Or you mean after your arrival you will just dhl your port to the embassy so that they can issue your visa based on the last successful interview 😎

** I would rather you reschedule your current appointment till after your arrival or you wait for your visa and postpone your travel . πŸ‘

My mom recently got denied her 1st b1/b2 application in January this year so she's scared she might be denied again. What about funding for the trip? She is retired so should she say her daughter will fund the trip? Any suggestions and advice is appreciated.

Hello Nomsy.

She should not indicate the wish of seeing her grandchild since you have not delivered the baby except if you want her to over stay (but another exemption is if you have already known your due date in that case she should be honest).

If she goes with the same DS-160 profile of January without any reasonable and convincing profile updates she will be denied again.

Funding for the trip lies with your family. If your mother is capable indicate her as self -funder and if she is not indicate yourself or your husband or any of your family (nuclear) member.

** Retirees are seen (by the consular) as people who honestly wants to come and relax in america after longer years of working/service but the sketchy part of it is that most of them will need long-time or constant medical care (esp women) , good environment for relaxation options for the senior citizens, etc which they will find as verily available and accessible in america thus making majority of them to want to over stay or stay back fully.

Your mum should display good home ties ie other children back home, businesses or rentage properties at home , other activities ie club hip, having visited or would be visting another of her child in Australia or Sweden etc in the coming year is another abstract ties of travel history etc .

** Lastly communication is of utmost importance. You knows your mum's communication ability. She should be able to know some things about herself the daughter she is visiting, she should talk to the consular in a friendly manner and if she doesn't know an answer she should say i cant instead telling lies. She should also not argue with the consular. πŸ‘

Good day house,
Quick question

What is the best approach to interview for a grandparent who is going for an interview alone and doesn't have good command of the English language ?

Is it possible to have a translator go with him/her ? is that allowed

what other ideas can one use to approach such a situation ?

Thanks in advance.

Duru.

I strongly believe that external translator won't be allowed except a family member who is also a travel companion.

Fill another DS-160 for granny and request for a translator (embassy will provide automatically but if they dont have the translator for mama's dialect then they Will write you to bring one along and give you details about how to do that) and state at the end of the form that a son /grandson or daughter have assisted her in filling the form.

Note: to update Grandma's new ds-160. πŸ‘

That's the problem of Africans, they hear a news and fly with it. There is no official statement from the embassy, in the Ghanaian Whatsapp group I'm in, people booked dates yesterday.

@missidy.
Those are the people who enjoys negative news and takes enjoyment in spreading it (perhaps for their personal gains).

I read it too and it's there on major newsrooms but it is not officially ratified. If it's going to take place i guess it will even start from Canada, Mexico , and followed by Arab nations .

Ask the person who is claiming inability to book an appointment but seeing available dates to screenshot his or her dashboard to the general public. I bet he or she won't reply again 😎

Continue spreading your own truth and good news. πŸ‘

She been there legally and visit home but not at this time it’s other reason I want to visit but from my research people keep saying having a relative or knowing a person may get you denied and thank you

** If the other reason of your visit is genuine and you think it is reasonable (to the consular) to guarantee a B2 visa in which if successful you would have spent approximately 8.5M NGN... Then go ahead and apply.

I will give it an unofficial 35/100% chances. It's not absolutely unattainable. πŸ‘

Hello everyone . Please my dependant and I were had an appointment on the previous platform for a student visa but couldn't attend before the platform was moved to AVITS. I have been migrated and been able to reschedule my interview but I am unable to reschedule my daughter even after raising tickets and sharing her payment receipt. They keep saying there's no record of previous profile for her with an unused payment.

She was always ed under my email in the previous platform as a minor and dependant.

Please has anyone experienced this issue with rescheduling a dependants appointment from the old platform to AVITS and how were you able to resolve it.

Do I need to create a new profile with another email for her. We have a limited time because her visa fee expires 19th of June. I don't want to have to pay another visa fee.

Thank you in anticipation of .

Toriolorun.

You should not have migrated your old appointment as your old appointment is still valid providing that your ds-160 tallied along.

Raising hundreds of tickets will not solve the issue other than following the official U.S. embassy recommendations which is :
