Successive Nigerian governments, the present one not excluded, have not failed to demonstrate that they lack the positive imagination as regards how to put smiles on her citizens faces. Rather, where they display there crooked imagination is on how to inflict untold hardships on them without provocation. Covid-19, the current pandemic as it is, has presented itself as an opportunity for the Nigerian government to redeem herself by putting smiles on the faces of her citizens but they are simply foolish or plain stupid not to utilize it. For past weeks now, they have been publicly announcing that they will be giving palliative/relief (cash) to her populace as obtained in other reasonable countries but none has seen the light of day. From 5k, to 10k, to 20k, back to 5k again with different conditions yet, NOTHING!!!. Is it that the Money isn't there or they don't know how to go about it? Going with the former assumption, the funds are graciously there. And with the latter, they can't claim not to know when they parade in their circles an unholy mixture of both the knowledgeable(s) and the most clueless. It then appears that this delay is intentional: to loot these funds. If otherwise, how do each and every household get their NEPA bills delivered to them at their doorsteps on or before every month end?, and How do our election materials get to every nook & crannies of the country during every election, including the monies they gives all the party agents to buy votes from all eligible voters in their wards? If not that their sensibilities are wired to be at its best only when they want to milk her citizens dry, why then is it hard for them to work out a modality from the two scenarios painted above to put these announced earmarked palliative cash inside their citizens hands? I dare ask again: Is it Lack of imagination or just that they are plain wicked or foolish? “The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” — Albert Einstein |
