Nigerians have taken to social media to express mixed reactions following the trailer of a Nollywood movie inspired by controversial activist, Verydarkman. The movie titled Verydarkblackman featured veteran Nollywood actor Gentle Jack in the role of the outspoken activist. The movie, produced by Anaele Ugochukwu Dominic, has sparked widespread conversation online, with many calling it unexpected, hilarious, and in some cases, distasteful. Verydarkman, whose real name remains largely unknown, rose to prominence for his vocal criticism of uned skincare products in Nigeria. He later gained further attention for his commentaries on major social issues, including the controversial death of singer Mohbad. The release of Verydarkblackman movie has drawn criticism from several social media s, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where opinions have been sharply divided. Reactions trailing Verydarkblackman movie: debo_A1 wrote, âGentle Jack shouldnât have made a mess of himself by taking up this role. This is so shameful to watch.â mensahtitus5 stated, âGentle Jack is a veteran in African movie space and shouldnât have condescended so low to take such role. Quite pathetic!â AustineAluge1 wrote, âOn a second thought, what if they got permission from Verydarkman before shooting the movie? Letâs not get angry. VDM is alive, he can actually see this and sue if it defames his character.â iam_harryjuana commented, âThat Mohbad scene no necessary. Make una allow the boy rest in peace nau.â 1 Share |

Muyiwa Awoniyi, the manager of Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has disclosed that the singer was not financially buoyant when he met her According to him, Tems had only âŚ200 in her bank during their first encounter. He made the disclosure in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast. Awoniyi explained that despite Temsâ financial status, she was determined and dedicated, which made him agree to work with her. He said, âThere was something Tems did that made me say, âI donât want to do a managerial contract with you, letâs do a company.â âWhen she asked me to be her manager, I agreed and said I would send her a contract to sign. We had already verbally agreed for everything. You know when you present paperwork for artists to sign, itâs always tricky. But she was chasing me to sign my own part. And I have never experienced that before. âI was like, âYou donât mind g paperwork? Hold on, letâs not do this. Youâre someone I can rock with for life. Letâs start a company.â Prior to this, Tems and I were friends for about three months and we never spoke about working together. Back then when I was doing my podcast, she would just be sitting down while me and my cousin are talking. âThen obviously, she wasnât financially buoyant in any capacity. When I met Tems, she only had like âŚ200 in her . And then I had a production company. âSo, if I had money, I would buy food. Another thing that shocked me was that even though she didnât have money, she will order food for us. She didnât even have a way of earning. So, I just realised that she is different from everyone I have seen in Nigeria.â

Actor Nonso Diobi has shared the reasons behind his unmarried status, attributing it to his struggle to separate his on-screen persona from real-life relationships. In an interview with Labista, the seasoned actor reflected on how his upbringing in the spotlight shaped his approach to romance. âI grew up on TV and donât know what it means to be a regular guy. Iâve tried to build relationships that would lead to marriage, but there was something I was doing wrong. I was seeing them through a scriptâ, he said. Diobi, known for his roles in numerous Nollywood films, itted that his immersion in the entertainment industry blurred the lines between scripted romance and genuine connections. Despite his efforts to find a lifelong partner, he acknowledged that his tendency to approach relationships as if they were scenes from a movie hindered his prospects. 4 Likes |

Ever stumbled upon a wedding that feels like a vibrant tapestry of cultures? That's precisely what unfolds in this YouTube video titled "Bride Price," where an Igbo bride and a Yoruba groom come together in a beautiful fusion of traditions. This intertribal union isn't just a celebration of love; it's a testament to Nigeria's rich cultural diversity and the evolving perspectives on age-old customs like the bride price. In many Nigerian cultures, the bride price-known as "Owo Ori" among the Yoruba or "Ime Ego" among the Igbo-is more than just a formality. Traditionally, it's a token of appreciation, a way for the groom's family to honour the bride's family for raising a virtuous woman. For instance, among the Yoruba, the bride price often ranges between #5,000 to #20,000 and is sometimes returned to the groom as a gesture of goodwill. Similarly, the Bini people of Edo State have a symbolic bride price of just #25. However, the practice isn't without controversy. Critics argue that in some communities, the bride price has morphed into a commercial transaction, placing undue financial pressure on the groom and commodifying the bride. In certain Igbo communities, while the official bride price might be modest, the accompanying traditional marriage expenses can escalate to substantial amounts, sometimes reaching up to a million naira. Recognising the potential burdens of exorbitant bride prices, some communities and states have initiated reforms. For example, the Idoma Area Traditional Council in Benue State standardised the bride price at #50,000 to prevent exploitation. Similarly, the Imo State Assembly proposed legislation to cap marriage expenses, aiming to make traditional marriages more accessible. She described the journey as both physically and mentally draining, stating that the stress of single-handedly raising children in a foreign land led to her developing high blood pressure. According to Uloma, the childrenâs father resurfaced in January this year through a Facebook message, expressing a sudden desire to reconnect with the children. After a series of conversations, he proposed to be included in her visa application and, in return, offered to reimburse her for the childrenâs school fees from the past six years. 15 Likes |
