If you want something economical, don't buy a corolla. The parts of that car is expensive now.

thank you.
consultation with another BMW specialist this morning, was that the top cylinder be check for possible crack, and if discover there is any crack, we should just change the engine, that repair of any kind will not last.
This over heating started lik 3 wks ago, water reservoir, water pump, thermostat etc were all replace, and engine work fine until Wednesday night when the problem started again.
Yes, that's what they say. Engine won't last blah bah. Then he will sell your "bad" engine back to Ladipo where it will be rebuilt and sell as Tokunbo engine.

Hello fellow bima lovers.....
I would be sharing with you my experience on my BMW E90 328XI SULEV.
Sometime last week i got a notification on my idrive system warning me that my fuel pump pressure was low and my engine automatically shut down. I tried starting the car, but it would only be rolling but won't start. After about 30mins, it started and i was able to manage it back home. The next day it repeated the same issue but this time it refused to start. I had to push the car to the nearest mechanic workshop.
The next day i called my parts dealer at ladipo to send the fuel pump for my car, i was told they had three types and i then decided to send him the picture of my fuel pump. It turned out my car was SULEV (Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle). The fuel pump(Tokunbo) cost 25k. They brought the fuel pump but it still repeated the same issue. The mechanic then asked i changed it and bring another one which i did the next day but still got the same result. I was getting depressed when they said i should buy a brand new one which costs about 90k.
I decided to do my own research via Youtube videos and google, i discovered the issue was the fuel injector relay or fuel pump relay. I immediately requested for one at ladipo but the one they sent was not the same as the one in my car. It fits but the car rpm won't raise and the idrive wrote engine power low/ malfunction. I then sent a sample of my own relay which i eventually got for 2k. Immediately i put the relay, everything came back to normal and the case closed.
My fellow bima lovers learn to do your personal research on your car before naija mechanic would turn it to kabu kabu.
1st pic: fuel pump
2nd pic: fuel pump relay.
Thanks for sharing.

Sharmeenator:
I created a thread in December 2017 seeking for advice in choosing between a Honda and a Mazda car, link here: https://nairaland.macsoftware.info/4238985/need-choosing-between-honda-baby. After all said and done, I went for the Honda Accord (baby boy) based on my budget and the advice given. My mechanic certified it OK after advising against the Mazda 626. We paid for the car, serviced it and did some body works where we discovered the underneath of the car to be badly rusted due to being parked for too long. The car turned out to be a nightmare.
Since I bought it, I have been a very regular customer at different mechanic workshops. I have changed nozzles (can't count), pumps like 4 times, injectors, power steering pump, steering rack, rusted fuel lines (took us months to fully solve this issue), shafts, ball ts, thyroids, back and front lower arms (welded) and many other minor things which can consume a lot when you calculate how many times you have to change them. There's no month I use the car I don't visit the repair shop. If I should mention everything I have faced in the space of 1 year, 4 months, this post will be too long. My car has broken down on the road; in the middle of the road several times during the day, late at night, sometimes causing traffic (can be so embarrassing eh!). I have spent so much on the car; even my wife is jealous. My experience has been awful that I'm so scared taking the car out especially with my family in it.
Despite all these, I don't regret buying it, as I have learnt so many from these experiences being a first car. To prevent a repeat, I'm here seeking expert help and advise to guide me in buying another car (the Honda is up for sale). I have seen many cars online within the range of 400k to 600k (my small budget ). I'm lost for choice. Mechanics advised I go for Toyota like it's the only brand in the world. I really don't like the Toyotas my budget can afford to buy. I have some cool models and brands in mind but I don't know which to go for and which not to go for. Kindly offer advice considering fuel economy, ease of maintenance, availability of and inexpensive spare parts, availability of mechanics (both pros and kazeems), ruggedity, common faults and solutions and proness to faults.
Cars in consideration includes but not limited to the following:
Nissan Maxima
Nissan Altima
Nissan Sunny
Nissan Primera
Nissan Almera
Nissan Sentra
Volkswagen Jetta
Volkswagen Bora
Ford focus
Ford Taurus
Ford Escape
Chevrolet Aveo
Hyundai Accent
Hyundai Sonata
Hyundai Elantra
Skoda (I'm nor sure about this brand)
Audi A4 and A6
Honda civic (is it true it's leg doesn't pull like other Honda brands?).
All within 2000 to 2006/2007
I will appreciate your kind help.

Update:
Thank you all for your advice so far. I really appreciate all your efforts. I really wish I can increase my budget, but man got other important things to do with money. Here is my updated bucket list:
Hyundai Accent
Hyundai Sonata
Hyundai Elantra
Kia Rio
I learnt that Hyundai and Kia spare parts are too expensive and not common to get compared to Toyota, Honda and Nissan and the bodies are too fragile and fail easily. Pls confirm!
Honda civic - I like civic but I'm worried about the Honda leg issues. Can someone confirm to me if Civics legs are without issues.
W202 C class - I'm really worried about the cost of maintenance and parts cost
Please help add to this list.
Buy a BMW e36 if you want your peace.

Alot of damages can be done by overheating, if it has gotten to the extent of the engine not starting. It's definitely an head gasket issue, if it has been resolved, the primary problem must be solved as well.
You see engine rebuild of those kind of engine is quite complex than you think, all these ones we do in Nigeria is just assembling engine, and if it's done it's a 50:50 chance, best is to buy another engine.
If engine rebuild of a 1999 m62tu engine is a problem, then our mechanic no try @ all. So it is advisable to buy a new engine because of a bad less $100 gasket

We finally bought a tokunbo engine and we regretted it. Engine making funny noise after installing it, then we called the seller because it is within the 1 week warranty. We returned the engine, seller checked and discovered a broken chain guide, and a cutting mark on the "camshaft" close to the vanous, not sure of the name. Well, we had to open the our own bad engine too, we resurfaced the top cylinder, change head gasket, change our timing chain guide too, water pump is still very okay, engine block is fine, but we still changed the rings of the pistons. Engine roars again. I love it this way, if it serves me for a year, I'm okay.
Gazzuzz should stop giving warranty on engines, o risky.

Replace the engine.
Replacing the burnt gasket will only provide temporary relief.
.
If the temporary relief is for a year, I'm okay. Most tokunbo engines may not even serve that long.

Take it for a scan, or you can bring it over to my workshop for a free scan. Don't throw any parts oooo, it proper diagnostics that can solve your problem.
A friend x5 e53 engine was damaged by overheating today. Engine has refused to start. The mechanic said the head gasket maybe bad and or a warped head cylinder. Please what can he do? Change the gasket and get a new head?? Please advice as I'm skeptical about getting another tokunbo engine that one is not sure of its condition.

Yes I did, Mazda. It worked like magic.
The valve inside was found to have broken into pieces nd changed. I used it for 3 months before I sold the car but the fix was totally worth it.
A lot of so called toks had the same repairs.
Exactly what the mechanic told me, he said most of the tokunbo shocks were repaired

I was tempted to do it too considering cost.

I wanted to change my front shocks last month. The mechanic said I could repair it if I don't have money for a tokunbo. Though I later bought a tokunbo. Has anyone done this before? I mean the repair. How long did the repaired shocks last if yes?
