This is the most sincere President Nigeria has ever had.
Mr President continue the good work, Nigerians will vote you back in 2019.
We had a President with PhD in the past, but he ended up as the worst President. grin

Aisha's jollof rice still working on you? See how Nigerians shortchange themselves.

Hi everyone, I'm asking on behalf of a friend (silent reader) who just got ppr mail yesterday. The head of department for her previous company (the one she used her work experience in) just ed away last week and the company has removed his details from the website. The deceased was the one who signed her reference letter.

She is worried that another review of the file will be done before her port is stamped and that if they don't find his details on the website it can cause problem. Can this be an issue? I do seeing somewhere that another review may be done but I'm not sure, hence her asking me to put the question here.

Your response will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Your review is normally done before PPR. My update was done before PPR. Once you have gotten to PPR, just start packing your load. Nothing to worry over.

I strongly believe there’s something wrong with you ma. Do you know me from somewhere? I posted something to get genuine opinions of people because I am upset and you’re there making very annoying and snide insinuations not once not twice not thice and throwing shades? It goes to show the kind of person you really are. If you don’t have any useful contributions please make room for people who do. **dropsmic**

Picks mic as i wan ask Manitoba Provincial Nominees questions.

Please after you have been given 60 days to apply, what next? What's the process flow? Thanks.

Excuse me but if you don’t have any input to make. Please give room for those that have an opinion. I have said exactly what happened and how it happened.

What job do you do here? Is it a well paying one? If not wait till you get a better one. Like others said you have to go back when your situation has changed to avoid another denial.

Please note that Canadians are finicky about appointments. It is one thing those who come from a culture where there are always excused tend to find difficult - it is not about Nigerians but immigrants are advised to always keep to appointments and what does that mean? Planning. You become used to your calendars, you diarize and do all that. No one is really interested in stories of traffic etc. So, from the lady's story, always plan your movements. Learn how to use Google Map well and other apps as on the day of departure, there could be a detour, congestion or unexpected event. When you want to go to BC, do not input the time as CURRENT TIME on the map, insert the estimated time of arrival inside to save yourself troubles.

For the train, it can be confusing especially on a busy day as a lt of people are just moving like ants but one thing is that those guys are used to the tracks. Canada uses a lot of signs to direct you. On the rail track, the No Crossing sign is there and you see where they write that it can lead to prosecution so don't use Naija sense to create a shortcut. There are cameras almost everywhere that is public and Big Brother is watching grin

I feel pity about it because we tend to ignore caution or regulatory signs in Nigeria so we get accustomed to taking shortcuts. The cameras are not there for security alone - Canada Revenue Agency will be very happy to have this lady pay the 180 CAD. Imagine paying 50k because you are late.

So basic lesson from this post. Here is the NO CROSSING sign for pedestrians.

Which province did this happen? This is so wrong. It is always announced before the go train stops at union station that it is a criminal offence and offenders will be prosecuted. It's better to put a call to them that you will be late due to some unforseen circumstances than to cross the railway track. It is best to leave earlier and sometimes you are the one to schedule your interview time so why not choose the time that you are sure to make it. Meanwhile if it is Union, where are you crossing to when you are supposed to go underground to burst into the town. This is real JJC in action. So sorry for your loss. We learn from such experiences.

For those in Branch Banking Operations and even branch Internal Control, Do you know that experience can fetch you Anti Money Laundering Analyst role here in Canada? Check the JD of AML analyst online and look out for the transferable skills you have as customers service officer and operations manager and tailor your resume to those skills. You may need a little brushing up like reading and taking the ACAMS exams (Anti money laundering certification exams)to prepare for the market. If you don't want to take the exams, you can read the materials to prepare yourself and defend your resume.

Back home most of us have our STR software that is integrated into our core banking application to pull out information for transactions above threshold but here you do the investigation and write a report which the manager would approve before filing the STR.

You just need a little brushing up before launching yourself into that area. It has so many roles like analyst, investigator, quality assurance etc. People with operations and internal control/compliance experience back home just brush themselves up and launch into the market here.

You know in Nigeria, one person is made to do 10 peoples work but not so here. Roles are seperated here.

While thinking of what to do here also give it a thought.

You are correct. I took C++ in school as part of my course completion requirement. I scored above 85% in the course but I just didn't enjoy programming. I can't see myself building a career in that field. Programming is not easy or fun for many people.

Then in school, because the curriculum would only allow them teach you COBOL, BASIC, FORTRAN IV AND FORTRAN 77, you would have to find a way to learn the modern languages. We (my class) had to pay a lecturer to take us on C++. We ended up borrowing courses from other departments because they didn't have core computer courses to teach us. I think it is better now.

I never expected you to answer my questions. I asked them in order for you to introspect and make decisions. I don't force interests on people; because I believe everyone should be able to pick what suits them. Programming is not for everybody; the way football is not for all. If it's not working for you, then find something else. That's nothing to be ashamed of.

A lot of things motivate us and keep us in the mood to learn. At a time, I was spending 1k naira everyday to go to the Unilag post graduate library to go and watch video tutorials and code. I found out that the environment encouraged me and kept me from sleeping.

A friend of mine is currently on a Cisco scholarship course. He does overnight at work anytime he wants to watch the videos and practice partly because his job does not have strict opening and closing time (he can waltz in at 10am and close by 8pm if he so chooses).

I also find it hard to learn or concentrate when I'm broke. The thing no go just enter head. So you have to minimize the noise or find ways to escape it so that you can achieve your goal.

It depends on if it's just one stop in those countries then an onward journey. Then you don't need. However if you're changing airports e.g YYZ to LHR then LGW to LOS, you'll need a visa. Same thing for the Schengen countries.

Thanks dear but i dont even have all that details. I am just hearing about changing airports for the first time.

czaratwork one thing developers know is that there is no single source of truth for learning. Over time, we usually know where to go for the best in a particular topic. Lynda, Treehouse, Udemy etc are great places to learn Php! But to learn Laravel (a Php framework) and generally be a better Php developer (mastering text editors, IDEs, asking questions and getting replies), everyone knows that laracasts.com is the place to go. There is a free plan but its subscription is $15/month. Even though Jefferey Way (the owner of Laracasts) is an extremely good teacher, if you ever want to set up authentication for multiple s in a Laravel project (say your project is going to have s, s, super s etc like Nairaland), the multi-auth tutorial by devmarketer on youtube is what you should be watching. We know these things because subconsciously, we have learnt how to learn. This in itself is a skill everyone should master. So as a person, do you learn well with videos? What kind of videos keep you engaged? Or do you learn best with books? These are questions you need to answer

And that is how I ended up typing an epistle cool cool cool[/quote]

Simiolu 1:

My dear, programming is not fun for me no matter where i go to learn it. I just dont have interest in programming. I can do with scripting, structured query language but not to sit down and write a program to solve a problem. Learning the syntax and semantics of those languages, having to develope the algorithm and all that is not just my calling. Probably if i had gone into IT after i left school, i may have developed interest.

Then for my best learning method, anyone that can impact on me is good. I using videos to learn some ACCA courses but now it's difficult for me to sit down behind the screen and learn. Even to learn advanced excel online is a problem. I had to sign up with a church member who volunteered to teach me alongside his students. I have not been able to study the one he drops on my webex .

I think because a lot is going on around me, i loose concentration easily. Lets see how it goes because i am beginning to deal with those issues. My IT SECURITY dream must not die.

simiolu1,

I checked lynda.com and the pricing seems to be higher than those listed on Udemy.
On Udemy, there are always promotions going on.
As a result of the promo, a course on Udemy is about $14.

What of cybrary? Are they good? I saw some couple of free courses there. Infact i ed for their free IT Security training but distractions no gree me start am.

Please provide more details.
How long are you intending to stop in Amsterdam?
Are you intending to leave the airport?
Which port are you travelling with?
Are you a permanent resident of Canada?

It all depends on the answers to the questions above.

Thanks tollu, vascey and randomsue. I am great. Just trying to keep a very low profile. You know that moment that you are in a meeting and you are told to reach out to your network and tell them about your group. That was the situation this morning.

I am new to the group and the least amongst them in all respect. I have seen a lot the group has to offer. Opportunities to meet leaders in the industry. Our founder delivered the keynote address at the last A event and has been volunteering for so many events.

You don't have to be a chartered ant to be part of the group. If you have built your career in the financial sector, you are also good to go. Our meetings are once in 2 months.

They did not part amicably to the best of my knowledge.

They started having issues after she started talking about getting married. At the time they were running a business together which he got into because of her, to help her. She gave him the cold shoulder for a long time, stopped showing up at work until she suddenly went one Sunday to pack out from the office what she felt was her contribution to the business including some of his things. He had to shut down the business, pay off workers. He told me he spent a good amount of money to cover up all debt they were owing including cleaning up the place and handing it back to the landlord.

That was last year ending. I told him to move on but he refused until after she ignored him for 3 months or so, without . So they have not been in since the ending of last year. Personally, I think he should try it out but what do I know? He no dey hear my own. Make unna help me tell am. He's monitoring this.

I dont know much about settling in Manitoba because i have never really asked about the province. Any reason you want to be in Manitoba? Because your skill that i see very lucrative in Ontario is IT CONTROL. I know banks are interested in that kind of role(IT AUDIT and IT CONTROL) and most banks are headquartered in Toronto. Also most banking roles are found in Ontario. You have some (mainly branch roles) in other provinces too.

If you want to pursue the ing profession, you can easily do that in any province. even though i would still say there are more ing roles in Ontario.(my opinion)

If it is ing roles you need you can start sending out your resumes to recruitment agencies like Robert half, international financial group, kelly services, etc. then you can also google indeed, glassdoor, eluta, workopolis, hays, AltisHR, the few i now but to tailor your resume to the job description on each d role so that your resume can the scanning stage.(This is not to claim a role you cant defend when shortlisted)

Also ant roles come with skills in some ing packages like JDedwards, quickbooks, sage, advanced excel (vlookup, pivot table, macros) and even SAP.(FICO). I would suggest you train on these skills back home because when you convert the cost to get trained here to our naira, you would have preferred to have done it back home. You can also google for some of these training online, some are free online even on youtube.

Then which certification do you have? if it is ACCA, you can start the process of conversion immediately. I dont know the process for ACA, you may have to ask others.

I will send an ant's resume to you as requested. You can also google it online so that you have so many to work with. Best of luck in your job hunt.

I know others here too especially those in Manitoba can also guide you with their contributions.

I guess you are an ant or in a profession close to that as you post several ing related contents, I hope to be in Canada before the year end, by the grace of God.
what are the opportunities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan for ants, had all my career in banks in Nigeria, Funds transfer, Internal control/Compliance officer and IT control Officer.I would love to move back into ing/Finance fully.
I would appreciate to have a detailed C.V for an ant to use as a guide to prepare mine(seen a few science based CV's that are a bit difficult to edit)
